For anyone with a similar unit who is attempting to interpret the wiring diagram that came with it, he is reading the wrong half of the paper. The bottom half of the page is for a gas unit and the one in the video is an electric unit so the diagram for the unit in the video would be found at the top of that page, not the bottom. Not trying to be a jerk here, just clearing up that the top and bottom of that page show two different units. The portion of the wiring that he refers to in the video is the same from electric to gas, but anyone watching this who actually pulls that tech slip should take note so they don't become REALLY confused I'd recommend that the timer motor and switch, drive motor switch and motor windings be looked at as well. Hope this helps someone, and thanks for making this video informative and easy to follow along with.
Went through all the steps , got continuity on all points. Assumed motor was burned out. Plugged it back in pulled off the start knob by accident pushed the protruding pin and she fired up 😅. Stuffed a little piece of tin foil in the start knob cavity to take up extra space and the dryer works like day one. Oh well, at least I learned what to look for in the future. Video deserves multiple thumbs up
Cost me a total of $5.57 to fix my dryer. You saved me well over $400.00! Thanks for a great video. Concise information distributed slow enough for me to follow along but not so slow that I felt the need to Fast Forward. Well done.
$25 later our dryer is fixed thanks to you!! Thank y'all so much for this video! We were literally ABOUT to walk out the door when I thought about checking it out further real quick. Not even 5 minutes into your video we learned how to fix what I suspected was the issue all along! A great big $700 THANK YOU!!!
My dryer wouldn't start. Usually I'll pay someone $100-$200 or buy a new cheap dryer for around $400. I did what you said and it was the thermo fuse. Only cost me to fix it for $6. Thank you very much!!!!
YOU'RE A HERO!!! My wife and i are in the process of moving to another city and WE NEEDED OUR DRYER WORKING. Turns out that it was the door switch that was busted! We thank you so much for your help 🙏
Thank you for this video! Very helpful for a fairly non-handy person. I picked up a multimeter for about $15, sort of learned how to use it, and found I had a faulty thermal fuse. I replaced it and the thermostat for $13, and it started right up. You saved me a bunch of $$$ and unwanted stress. Again, much appreciated!
Thank you, I followed the instructions to help a family member with their old whirlpool, and it worked. The repair guy they called could not come for a month. I was about to call around or help them get a new dryer.
Great video. Have used one of your videos before to replace thermal fuse and coils, etc. Dryer just quit the other day. Going to investigate it this weekend. Thank You for such a clear, concise repair video. Cheers!
Very helpful. I did the diagnosis and it was the timer. Not the cheapest part, but you saved me a lot of trouble. No one services appliances in my rural town.
We have 2 laundry rooms in our house. One laundry room is on the first floor and the other one is upstairs. We have only used the laundry room on the first floor about 20 times in 15 years and now the dryer will not start. I was going to call a repair person to fix it but now, I believe that I will do it myself. Thank you very much for this video.
Thank you for posting this very clear diagnostic. I just got my Roper up and running. Thermal fuse was blown and the vent piping was full of lint. I guess the fuse did it's job well.
Thank you for your video. I was ready to chuck my machine and spend another fortune on a new one. I checked the very first thing you mentioned which was the door switch and Voila! It works! Thanks again for your very helpful video, it saved this sap loads (pun intended) of money!
Great Video. I'd like to add one thing that might help someone. If your belt breaks or you happen to be trying to test the motor without the drum in place, the motor will not run. There is a switch connected to the belt's idler pulley arm. When you lift the arm (as if there was belt tension on it) you can hear the switch click. I would also imagine that this is yet another switch that could fail. We have a Whirlpool GEQ9800PW2.
Thank you for taking the time to show us all how to troubleshoot a dryer, I have done all that you did and the timer is bad at the end which is not beeping as everything else did before it. Just the call out alone was $75 and that was just to come to the house, I just watched another video and found out how to check a motor on another dryer and was able to repair that , I cant believe how easy it was to repair the motor in maybe and hours time, so I am sure replacing my timer will be easy lol.. thanks again.
Thank you! It ended up being my door switch, but not the switch itself. Removing the green and white wires from the switch posts and pushing them back on did the trick. $ saved.
Thanks for the breakdown and troubleshooting guidance! Even after buying a multimeter for testing I saved a lot of money and time vs a repair call (and now have a multimeter). Pointing to the wiring diagram helped me see it was a problem with the timer. Opened it up after replacing and sure enough one of the contact terminals was scorched
What can I say? AWESOME. If not the best video I have seen on dryer issues. 👍👍 I have to admit I was getting sick of watching dryer videos about the same old same old. But the fact that you used a schematic to locate and test the connections made my day.
Thank you so much for the video! I got lucky that it was only a broken door sensor, I'll have to see what my best option is. But you got my dryer running again, and I appreciate it
Thank you so much you save me a lot of money!!! My case was temperature sensor!!!!! The exhaust hose was clean because I usually cleaned!!! But on the roof the net wire was fully clogged!!!!
Helped me find the problem with my dryer. the door switch was bad .. instead of purchasing a new one i just bypassed it all together with a wire nut .. no more problems!
Thank you it was a great video BUT since I really never have used a meter it would be great to explain what to set it on and if it is registering does that means there is continuity? Sorry just learning. Thanks again!
Thanks for the tips. Last week I found and tested the fuse. Tested it by bypassing it temporarily, taping to the two leads together directly. The unit kicked on, so I knew it was the fuse. Replaced it with a new one. Job done. Did three loads of laundry. Waited four days. Now the dryer won't go on again. This time, I tested the fuse the same way - by bypassing - and it still wouldn't start by bypassing the fuse. Kind of stuck now. If it was the fuse the first time, what would cause it to go dead again just a few loads later? Especially if it's not the fuse. I'm thinking the thermostat because I didn't replace that. I'll buy an Ohm meter tonight and use it to test the on-off switch, too. Also, I have gone through all the venting and the dryer and removed anything that could potentially clog things and cause an overheat.
Usually the fuse goes out again if the venting is clogged either internally or externally. If it's not starting after, rarely, the motor was going bad and overamped the fuse... rarely... the other main issues are win the video. Good luck
Thanks for the great video. I got to the 3rd check and what do you know, bad fuse. Save me a ton of $. $6 for 3 of the fuses and about a week of no dryer. Well worth it.
I have a Series70 dryer and it stopped spinning. The belt and rollers are fine. The thermal fuse and door switch are also good. (The door switch clicks and the light goes off when it is pressed so I assume that is good anyway). Do you have any other suggestions as to what could be wrong? Thank you.
I have a Amana dryer ,the thermal fuse keeps blowing and even on the off setting it stays on but no spin.what should I check? Changed thermal fuse and heater element.
Thanks you so much for your video, my dryer problem was the thermal fuse, only cost 5$, easy to understand when your explain, even for me a french speaker
Thank you for the tutorial. Got it working thanks to you. It was thermal fuse at the bottom of the thermostat that shuts the machine off once it gets too hot. I had an extra dryer laying around and so I salvaged the parts to get it working. I also replaced the thermostat because the wire was brittle causing a break. It's all brand new again!!
Tim, thank you so much for the clear, step-by-step instructions! I replaced the thermal fuse and cycling thermostat yesterday and was able to finish drying our clothes last evening! I really appreciate your help!
Hi Byrd Appliance Specialist I have this problem. No heat and it spins. So i check the heater, replaced with brand new heater, still no heat. Heater not turning on. Replaced the old thermostat with new thermostat, still no heat. Checked all wirings for continuity, all checked out good, sanded the terminals, still not heat. Replaced the whole motor with centrifugal switch, still no heat, heater does not turn on. I don't know where to go now. please help.
My wiring harness going from the cycle selector (delicates, low, medium, high) to the timer is burnt. Ever run into that issue? Obviously I need to replace that harness, but do you think the timer is bad as well? Possibly the cycle selector? I tested the switch and the fuse and both are good. But what could cause the problem for the wire harness to burn like that?
@@byrdappliancespecialists3356 thanks. Local place in town estimated parts for it would cost more than what I could get a used one for, so I plan on taking as many parts off it and saving them for spare parts. I bought a similar model so most parts should work with the other model.
Did the whole list to be sure. Looks like the problem is that the wall outlet has one prong slot that is malfunctioning. That’s the landlords problem now ;) Great video, although a better close up of the wall outlet section would have been helpful, had to look for other videos on that.
I checked everything and even replaced the timer with a new one off eBay. Still nothing. Any ideas? The interesting thing is the light doesn’t turn on when I open the door, however I have checked the door switch and it’s good.
Hey I have an old dryer maybe 20 yrs old Its a GE the drum sounds rough ( not dry ) but like a loping sound or not smooth. are there bearings in the drum? where to purchase? anything else I can replace while in there for maintenance ?
Yes. It's probably the front glide bearings and upper bearing assembly is being chewed into. You'll have to find your model number and do some digging to find the parts. Other maintenance is hard to say. Good luck

JUST A NOTICE!!! My dryer would not start. I checked everything, EVERYTHING, before taking it apart to test the motor. When I had performed the continuity test on the white & blue wire connect and then the white & black wire connect into the motor switch, everything was good. SO!! I did a VOLTAGE TEST where I put a jump wire for the door switch to mimic the door being closed. I put my multimeter on ACV 250. I plugged the dryer in. Set the timer to heat dry and pushed the start switch. BOO-YAH!!! It worked. So then I removed the multimeter probes from the connection and tried the start switch again. It is still working. APPARENTLY when I had pushed those probes into the wire harness, I snugged up a loose wire. EVERYONE told me that it was VERY rare that a motor would go bad on a Whirlpool dryer, especially a 3 year old dryer. I was about to load this dryer up and take it to a parts shop to put a new motor in. WHEW!!! Saved a few hundred dollars by checking everything.
Can you clarify which settings the multimeter should be on to test connectivity? And does it matter where the red and the black goes? Sorry one more question, when you disconnect the start, door, or thermal fuse, does it matter which terminal is reconnected where? I disconnected them and then forgot. This is a fantastic video, thank you!
looking at the conduit.... are the 110vac outlets sharing a leg of the 220Vac line to the dryer. I did that once and was told you cannot share those legs.... having to do with a failure at the 220 device causing 220 across the 110 outlets ????? tnx bill
Love the video, it helped me find that it was just a thermal fuse, cheap fix compared to calling a repairman or buying a new dryer. Thank you for making this video.

Thank you! Your video helped me diagnose my dryer having a blown thermal fuse. I ordered a new one and a new cycling thermostat.
Thank you so much! I was about to trash my dryer until I saw this and spent 8.00 and it’s back up and running. I am so thankful and relieved!

This video was great. My problem was thermo fuse. I had blockage in outside vent. Thank you.
Thanks! Most of the videos only cover the switches and fuse. Im glad you suggestions the timer because in my case that was the culprit.
Thanks for the video, thermal fuse blew on me and wasn’t ready to replace my old whirlpool dryer just yet.
Thanks for the breakdown and troubleshooting guidance! Even after buying a multimeter for testing I saved a lot of money and time vs a repair call (and now have a multimeter).

Thank you, it was the door switch on my dryer that went bad.
Thank you for the great video! It clearly walked me through how to check and fix my non starting dryer. Fixed myself for under $11.
Amazing, thank you so very much. My dryer is now running and today I was prepared to buy another dryer.LOL. But now I don't have to.
Thank you sooo much for doing this video I had no idea what I was going to do when my dryer went out.
Awesome!!! Thank you!! I'm a mechanically clueless mom and you helped me fix my dryer😊😊😊👍👍👍👍
Can you test those circuits with a multi-meter if the dryer is not plugged in, or if the breaker in the fuse panel is off?
Best video I've seen on this particular dryer. Explains very simply & thoroughly. Thanks.
Helped me find the problem with my dryer. the door switch was bad .. instead of purchasing a new one i just bypassed it all together with a wire nut .. no more problems!
Well done, thank you for all the useful information. Replaced the door switch and my dryer is back working again. All for under $10. Much appreciated

Thanks for the great video. I got to the 3rd check and what do you know, bad fuse. Save me a ton of $. $6 for 3 of the fuses and about a week of no dryer. Well worth it.
Great tips. Your suggestion about the door switch fixed the problem.

Thanks for this. Clothes are drying once again and wife is happy!
Make sure her ass is in the kitchen next, then upstairs for baby making after the foods ready... This is what they want
Liked the video with full details of troubleshooting step by step which part is causing problem
What setting did you use to check the outlet
Your the man!! My dryer looks just like that and sure enough the thermal fuse is shot. Thank you so much
my dryer is not spinning, whenever we press the start button it makes this sound mmmmm , is it the belt or motor?
You saved me a repair man call!! Thank you!!!!
Saved my hunting season man! It was the door switch too.....felt like an idiot but as long as my dryer works I don't care. Thanks!
Thanks
My fuse was bad. I followed your troubleshooting guide and I found the problem. Great video
Lol like a math teacher covering the problem as they solves it. Gotta love the camera angles
I have a Amana dryer ,the thermal fuse keeps blowing and even on the off setting it stays on but no spin.what should I check?
Changed thermal fuse and heater element.
I fixed it ... Thank You. Was the fuse In back. 62 female. Did it. 6:31
Tremendous! Thanks for helping my out with my dryer! You Are The Man!
Thanks you so much for your video, my dryer problem was the thermal fuse, only cost 5$, easy to understand when your explain, even for me a french speaker
The only video I watched that starts with checking the outlet which, in my case, it ended up being! Thanks!
Thank you for the tutorial. Got it working thanks to you. It was thermal fuse at the bottom of the thermostat that shuts the machine off once it gets too hot. Thank you very much! I repaired my dryer with your instructions. ❤
Great job. Even thought it wasn't the motor, I'd be curious to see how you test the motor.
Excellent video got my dryer up and running.
Tim, thank you so much for the clear, step-by-step instructions! I replaced the thermal fuse and cycling thermostat yesterday and was able to finish drying our clothes last evening! I really appreciate your help!
Hi Byrd Appliance Specialist
I have this problem.
Follow each step, if your machine is similar. There are no other components other than loose wiring. Good luck.
😂 When doing the most just isn’t good enough.
what do you set voltmeter on? You don't say which setting.
Thanx man after watching ur video i repaired my dryer
The video was straightforward with enough pictures and explanation to make my dryer repair SUPER easy. Thank you!
Very clear instructions. I wonder why this doesn't have more views.
When checking the thermal fuse, I set it to ohms and what am I HOPING to see as a readout on a working fuse? 0 only?
Whats that adapter plug called.where you tested the dryer 🤔
Will it still buzz (pressing start) when the thermal switch is open?
1/1/21Happy New Year! Would if its the switch on the door how do you change it? Thank you dryer went out last night
Thank you Tim for the excellent instructions. Forced me to finally learn other capabilities of a multimeter to diagnose!
Can I replace the black click thing in the beginning? That keeps door shut that’s what broke off mine
Thanks now I know what to expect from my repair call. Take care and God bless.
My wiring harness going from the cycle selector (delicates, low, medium, high) to the timer is burnt. Ever run into that issue? Obviously I need to replace that harness, but do you think the timer is bad as well? Possibly the cycle selector? I tested the switch and the fuse and both are good. Time. Wire vibration loosening connection creating arcing is most likely. Hard to say
@@byrdappliancespecialists3356 thanks. Local place in town estimated parts for it would cost more than what I could get a used one for, so I plan on taking as many parts off it and saving them for spare parts. I bought a similar model so most parts should work with the other model.
my whirlpool dryer won't start on the automatic setting but runs on the manual setting just fine. Any ideas what could be the problem?
Did the whole list to be sure. Looks like the problem is that the wall outlet has one prong slot that is malfunctioning. That’s the landlords problem now ;) Great video, although a better close up of the wall outlet section would have been helpful, had to look for other videos on that.
I checked everything and even replaced the timer with a new one off eBay. Still nothing. Any ideas? The interesting thing is the light doesn’t turn on when I open the door, however I have checked the door switch and it’s good.
Thank for the video, but I got a question, what part do I get when the blue and purple wire on the timer don't work
Props dude! Thanks. Ours popped the 196* thermal fuse
Good luck
@@byrdappliancespecialists3356 Kool Thanks for the reply ! Subscribed
I have a question the drum on my dryer came off and we put it back but now my dryer won’t turn on

Excellent video!! Thank you so much! Blew the thermal fuse, so replacing fuse and cycling thermostat like you recommended!
This video was IMMENSELY helpful. Diagnosed the problem and fixed it.
Awesome video, help me locate the problem with my dryer door sensor
What setting of ohms or jus any ohms number selection?
Love the video, it helped me find that it was just a thermal fuse, cheap fix compared to calling a repairman or buying a new dryer. Thank you for making this video.
Thanks, Tim for sharing your knowledge and skill. Great info and instruction
