I do like the sound of an additional biome in the nether as a drop, they’ve shown a small biome drop could be done and like you said it will be 5 years since the nether update IF they did it in the next drop.
I just really hope that the next drop does something with the inventory although I reckon we’ll see that in experimental snapshots first, so an end update could be the next focused one.
I think having drops allows a separate team to work on a bigger update such as the end whilst still providing new content. We as players underestimate how much work goes into updates and balancing the game. This also stops a repeat of the caves and cliffs update part 1, 2 & 3! Which wasn’t well received due to the delays. This gives them much more flexibility.
I think we miss a big part of the reason the drop isn’t in one package. They use the social media to build hype and get people talking. By omitting bits they get lots of impressions and they can also touch the water to make any tweaks prior to releasing the rest. They had the flowers, and new blocks and everything already done, these weren’t cover your back side additions. I’m guessing they were aiming for a Halloween drop but they missed it massively which makes it feel like they were actually intending for a festive drop when a lot more people have time off to play.
I think the drops are a way to make it harder for Java servers and push for more Microsoft simple updates into Realms to become a selling point for Microsoft and a disadvantage to Java.
I think that this has some validity if your happy with just vanilla but Java is able to provide a much more tailored experience for the player. Like Troj says it will just make it a bit more challenging as a server operator but players will get used to the new process.
@Juras6x That's all true, Java rules in my book, Admin will likely barely notice a small frequency in drops forcing them into updates. The communities should care for their admins and work with them in the end, what other couse it there...oh yeah, but you see what I am saying and is worth looking for trends and or discussing it in hopes we can let Mojang know how we feel.

For the end they could make one rare biom or new cityor structure. I am ok with that.

We should not expect updates more than quarterly. I would love to learn to help you with some of the server management.
I would be surprised if we got three a year, I think it will most likely be two dependent on what the drop/updates are.
