idk i regard the cliff hangar ending as something that was a "fun for the fans". Really the series ended after Hex saved cyberspace from Daemon.
For a CG show from the 90s, it hasn't aged too bad. The animation quality is actually impressive, given the age of the show.
Red Vanquish you haven't watched the early seasons. This clip is from the last season when they knew a little more and had a bigger budget.

well after seeing what I believe is going to be terrible "Guardian Code" and then watching this video I now want to watch reboot all over again.
Man, this show was great. It dealt with such heavy and philosophical themes brilliantly presented through an allegory of computer programs. Too bad the new show is a stinky pile of poop with the thematic weight of a Power Rangers episode.
In all honesty Power Rangers isn't all that bad; there's other reasons why the Reboot remake sucks

I agree that Power Rangers isn't that bad (well..up until around the Zeo era...kinda started sucking then). However, didjargo is right in his comparison - The Guardian Code basically lifted the formula from Power Rangers, to such an extent that it borders on looking like one of the many knock-offs during the 90s that were trying to capitalize on the PR buzz, such as Masked Rider, Big Bad Beetleborgs, etc.
TGC revolves around a group of teenagers at a local high school who are given special powers to fight the forces of evil (in this case, Megabyte & Hexadecimal). When duty calls, they "reboot" (cough....MORPH) into superheroes in suits that give them superhuman strength. Their suits are red, blue, yellow, black, etc...you know....like the Power Rangers. Oh - and they can't tell anyone about their powers. They must keep it a secret because.....reasons. This is *_literally_* the foundation for Power Rangers, word for word.
ReBoot was unique in that it gave us a new perspective on ourselves -- the denizens of Mainframe believed that their digital existence was the only true reality, and that the god-like "User" must surely be like them, only infinitely powerful. That framing had so many philosophical possibilities, but TGC tosses all that in the Recycle Bin for the sake of doing another generic teen super powers series. So yes - TGC sucks for many reasons, but being a blatant rip off of PR is definitely one of them.
@@sixstanger00 Masked Rider was actually an English Dub of a season of a way better Sentai Show, Kamen Rider.
Also many other shows were guilty of the same. Like VR Troopers (which Reboot TGC reminds me more of), Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad, TMNT The Next Mutation. Hell even Sailor Moon is another one of those Power Rangers-like shows if you think about it.

This show was so good. I remember how my imagination was engaged by it when I was a kid. For those who pay attention, this show was the forerunner to many other ideas. Even some good philosophical thought was in this show instead of all the random 'free for all crap' that's kids TV shows have today.
Agreed. When a series has established lore and an interesting premise and for the most part abides by its rules, it makes it so much more memorable and engaging.

The thing that always got me, is that before this the show had Bob as a seasoned and experienced Guardian...but here he's shown to just be a cadet that actually never passed his finals. What?!
Headcanon: Bob gained all of his experience in Mainframe grinding against Hex and Megabyte. Bob was safe because neither of the two would kill him since he showed compassion to Kilobyte, their original form. He probably got his ass handed to him multiples times by both of them in the beginning. Maybe he went back to the Supercomputer every now and then for tips and tricks... continued to gain valuable experience with two of the most powerful viruses in cyberspace, played all the games and presto, you have a fully capable Guardian.
Basically, Bob was thrown into the fire headfirst which is usually a make or break method, and he succeeded.
In a way, his idea later did work on Hexadecimal.
It feels like a retcon. Bob at the beginning of the series was implied to be new to the scene and wasn't all that familiar with Megabyte or Hexadecimal, both of whom had established presences in Mainframe, nor did he even recognise Gigabyte during the season 2 episode he appeared in. Now, in season 4/the movies, he's a cadet who almost immediately followed Killabyte to Mainframe and must have known that Megabyte, at least, came from Killabyte. It was easy to believe that Megabyte created his massive empire (seriously, look at them in the pilot episode) when there was no opposition to him other than the local sprites and binomes, but building it under Bob's nose?
The Daemon and Two Bobs arcs were interesting and even fun at times, but I'm fine with the canon ending with season 3 for me. At least there's no series cliffhanger that way. It was really cool how they had the one voice actor for Guardian-Bob and the other for Web- and Glitch-Bob, though, with actual consistency to keep them separated.

You can definitely see some of both Viruses features in Gigabyte. He has some of Megabyte’s jaw shape, bulk, leg design, and right claw. While his chest resembles Hexadecimal’s chest design and the top part of his face sorta resembles her mask.
none of them were aware that back then when computers were limited to just games and network was in it's infancy for users. Now, the users are many and the network has evolved beyond their imagination.
I would make this a VR game. It screams adventure and fear. But please don’t let this new reboot team touch it.
Hope it doesn’t end up like the PS1 Reboot game turned out.

To summarize: Bob had a radical unproven theory about viruses being rehabilitated. After the death of his partner, Turbo granted Bob permission to test his theory in Mainframe. Since it wasn't connected to the Net they figured if the viruses got out of control, no big deal. Or Megabyte wasn't a huge threat if they were going in for the kill, so "give the rookie and cookie and we'll step in to clean up his mess if he fails".
This essentially means that all the heartache that followed, the terror Megabyte caused, was all because of Bob's incompetence as a Guardian. He never even ATTEMPTED to rehabilitate the viruses until the end of the series.
He WAS able to reform Hexadecimal though. And it was only thanks to her that Daemon didn't succeed in destroying the whole 'Net. So if Turbo hadn't been willing to humour Bob about his pet theory, then everyone and everything would have been wiped out.
I'd say that there definitely was something to his ideas about handling viruses after all.
Mainframe was connected to the Net after the explosion, but sealed with Bob's Guardian code afterward. So if he's killed or lost, the system closes down, and Megabyte can't even hope to access the Supercomputer, as was the case during Season 3. The Guardians couldn't do much for the destroyed Twin City except keep it from getting any more unstable, and they could never hope to dare to confront Hexademical.
Do you remember what episode it shows this plot of Bob's and explains how it was his fault.... I don't remember it....
@@YamiMirai Hexadecimal nearly destroyed Mainframe herself multiple times over. She was just insane enough to sometimes be able to counter. Didn't hurt that she was in love with Bob, too.

As a kid, I thought the twin city was a back up drive in a computer, and that's why the user never did a full system "reboot"/"restore".
Two computers together on a private LAN. If the show didn't keep ending on bloody cliffhangers we'd probably have seen more of the Net looking like this.

It was terrible. I guess it gets some points for bringing back Hex and calling buddy the Sourcerer, but there's so much that could have been done (especially given the original thing of wondering about the user) that it's a real shame.

Not sure why, but the fact that the first thing after waking up in ruins via a massive explosion Megabyte just walks away. Like he already knows what his purpose is and decides to get to work.
Imagine, what would happen if Megabyte in his new form and Hex in her form after she got the core energy (when she started fighting daemon)

Yep. All Mainframe shows and they featured a lot of the same voice actors. Beast Machines, too. You'll notice Optimus Primal as Turbo, Cheetor as Bob, big Enzo as Graveheart, Tigatron/Tigerhawk as King Mantel, and I'm certain Scott McNeil did voice work for Reboot as well even though I'd have to look things up.
Dot's dad both looks and sounds like Omniman.

I always thought their skins were shown as such because they were main cast members, like something we see looking in. Otherwise, none of them would really be personified at all. The entire show humanized workings of computers, so to go a visual step further for a show built on a very visual platform made sense.
If it was ever addressed in the show, I don't remember or assumed it was a gag.
So basically Dote and Enzos father is responsible for everything that happened in the series, and Megabyte and Hexadecimal we're originally the same being.

It's amazing how many of us liked this show so much when it had with such horrible 3D animation.
For the time, it was amazing (not that there was really anything to compare it to). Now, you want a cgi cartoon that's aged like absolute dogshit, look up _Voltron: The Third Dimension_ some time. *There's* a show that was outdated before it even aired.
Besides, ReBoot *still* somehow manages to look better than the, err, reboot, does.

Does this scene seem lower quality then even the early seasons to everyone else? Something about this one bit always looked off to me, like it was never fully finished, especially with how bob and the other guardians look.
I think at this point in the series, they were experimenting with more "realistic" facial mechanics, but it unfortunately just placed the characters further into the uncanny valley. The earlier models were simpler, but that only allowed them to have a more pleasant cartoony quality.
I think the show had the best blend of cartooniness and realism during Season 3. Everything seemed to be at its best in Season 3.
looking at Bob grieving over his mentor again, think that might actually be it.

@@nickytembo4112 I think it should have a distinct cartoon style. Any good CG-animated show these days doesn't bother trying to look "realistic". Think Star Wars Clone Wars. That's the level of "realism" Reboot should be aiming for.
That is, if this show ever has a future with competent producers at the helm.... (**cough** Guardian Code *cough*)

When you said cel-shaded, I was thinking of something similar to the cartoony style of Zelda: Windwaker, which might work. But I think Reboot should always exist in 3D animation, personally. That's part of how the original show made its mark.
So, Gigabyte is Megabyte and Hexadecimal, As A Fusion.
Think of It As A Secret Origin of Re-Boot, Before There Was The First Episode of "The Tearing."
I kind of liked how they ret-conned that they are related (different sides of the same coin), because in the beginning they sort of had the antagonistic roles for each other - like brother and sister fighting over the same things...
Hex was/is mostly harmless, while Megabyte was more into dominating a city...
I find it kinda like Mihaele and Stertoth in Bomberman 64 The Second Attack. Who were actually once an insanely destructive being but split into two creatures who consider themselves siblings but also hate each other.

The movie came out in 1995, the series started in 1997. Reboot started in 1991 and went on till 2001. There were TONS of references to movie and TV shows. So not surprised they would have something like this lol

This is a reference to a Season 1 episode where a similar "Stargate" device was used. But even that episode was clearly a reference to the actual Stargate show. The original creators were clearly huge Stargate and Star Trek fans.

I never liked inserted lore like this in Reboot. In seaskn 1 it was obvious that other sprites existed in mainframe. Just look at Al's Diner in lvl 31. Ang Gigabyte was a new evolution between Megabyte and Hex due to the web creature and the fact that they were from the same viral strain. Not used to be the same being.
