Replacing the tubes is a complete pain. I managed it with the car on ramps, but only just. It was very touch and go. In my view changing the tubes should be avoided if at all possible. The big issue is that when withdrawing old cables, the handbrake end jams in the tube meaning that you must change both. So, if changing just the cable what I do is, firstly, cut the ferrule off the handbrake end of the cable. Then connect an air line to the tube at the handbrake end and blow through thoroughly until no more crud comes out of the wheel arch end. Then flood the tube with WD40. Only then do you attempt withdrawal of the cable from the wheel arch end. They can still stick. Then do all possible to clean the tube before inserting the new cable. But the big message is: NEVER WITHDRAW THE CABLE FROM THE TUBE WITHOUT SNIPPING OFF THE END FITTING OR FERRULE. Hope that helps.
Just done this job on my back with the car on axles stands, the exhaust in place and the heat shield loose, a complete pain in the arse from start to finish be doable. I cut the old tubes at the bends under the car and they then came out easily, then i undid the brackets that hold the hydraulic lines in place using a cut down 10mm spanner and removed them, the new tubes can then be fed in from the wheel arch without too much hassle, now that i know how to do it i reckon it would take me one hour per side if i did it again
Thanks Hannah! Lovely job.
