Is Labour's tougher approach to relations with Israel the right one? | LBC debate

  • Israel has criticised Britain for dropping its challenge to an international arrest warrant issued for Benjamin Netanyahu.
A spokesperson for the Israeli government said that Labour had made a "fundamentally wrong decision" in deciding not to pursue the challenge at the International Criminal Court.
ICC prosecutor Karim Khan in May requested arrest warrants for Israeli prime minister Mr Netanyahu and defence minister Yoav Gallant over the war in Gaza.
Rishi Sunak's government had told the ICC it intended to submit arguments questioning whether the ICC had the right to order the arrest of Israeli nationals.
The Hague-based war crimes court gave the UK until Friday to decide whether it would do so.

Netanyahu uses an obvious false dichotomy: either you support us or you support Hamas.
No Ben. Saying that killing ordinary Palestinian citizens and stealing their land is wrong is not "supporting Hamas."

The law was then changed to ensure Israeli politicians could come to the UK without fear of prosecution. If Netanyahu flew in tomorrow, it would be up to Keir (ultimately) to arrest him or not; just like it's up to ministers to continue selling weapons to brutal regimes irrespective of legal judgements. Hey guys.....
standing ovations and applause would not have happened in the absence of money and leverage from lobby groups such as AIPAC in DC.
It is clear, from congresses behaviour, who they wanted to impress... the hand that feeds them!
to a high extent, AIPAC and their deep strong network work aggressively to keep sitting Congress members inline with their plans.
Not to forget the major campaign contributions to the presidential elections.... and the influence that extends.
Israel therefore HAS major influence on US Congress and the US president.

His speech wasn’t a masterclass, it was a sad insight to the American Congress. A foreign leader, all be it a friendly one, comes to their House and insults the people they represent and some stood up and applauded him. It’s a shame too many American Congress men/women on both sides have been paid and bought by the Israeli lobby. Congress members are so frightened of AIPAC, America is now isolated with Isreal on the international stage.
