RIP the two members of Screaming Trees Mark Lanegan (November 25, 1964 - February 22, 2022), aged 57 Van Conner (March 17, 1967 - January 17, 2023), aged 55 You both will be remembered as legends.
The last few seconds of this song is what really gives me the feels. I really envy those who were in their prime years in the early 90s and I remember most of it back then hearing it on the radio. I'm about to be 30 and it sucks, but I'll never forget growing up to this.
🤣🤣 i could remember a feeling of a vauge party circa 1993 when i was still single with no kids and was crazy and dumb. Agh what good times tbey were ...i think.
One of my favourite songs of the '90s. I was so shocked and saddened to hear of Mark's passing today. His voice is one that personifies my generation and he's always been one of my favourite songwriters. Big hugs to his former band members, friends, family, and other fans who are reeling from this news.
Washington in general, for grunge, is a high watermark that probably will never be repeated again, even if this band's from Ellensburg and not Seattle specifically.
RIP Mark Lanegan. Thanks for your amazing voice and words. I'm glad I got to see the Screaming Trees in mid 90's from the Dust tour. With the Connor brothers and Barrett Martin, they were a powerful underrated force.
I was not a “grunge” guy in that era. Not even close and even though I wouldn’t classify ST as a grunge band…they were thrown on the pile along with all the Seattle bands. Mark and company were on another level to me. That voice. The rhythm section kept it raw and garage primed. Three stone cold classics on this album. Nearly Lost You. Dollar Bill. Butterfly. They live on. Rest easy, Mark.
This band deserved so much more credit than they got. At least Lanegan's still going strong, though he's not as well known as he should be (especially in the US), either.
I'm 62 and have been listening to and just absorbing the best of the Hard Rock and Metal bands that I could find. Bands that moved my craving for THAT sound and feeling. I can't listen to music that does nothing for me. In the '60s, as a kid, bands like MC-5, in '69 the Stooges, '70 Black Sabbath, later Keith Relf's Armageddon, 'AC/DC, '77 Judas Priest, '80s the Cult, WASP, Metal Church. Then in the 1990:s, I discovered a band named the Screaming Trees, a group that could have fit in any decade. HARDCORE songs about the situations and shit that happen in real life. The songs, 'Butterfly" and ,"Almost Lost You,', are classic. The Screaming Trees, Type O Negative, Drain STH. and of course Ozzy, made the '90s great for ROCK MUSIC. Since the 2000's started, especially after 2010, NOTHING, DEAD AIR, Little Miss Personality screeching to computerized 'music' and the "Leave It To Bieber" show. Thank goodness for TH-cam!!!
I still remember when I listened to the Singles soundtrack, and nearly lost you just stopped me in my tracks. So good! Butterfly is definitely a favorite too. We'll miss you Mark Lanegan.
I was very shocked when I heard the news about Mark. It's so very sad he had a tough road in life. I'm glad him and his wife were able to spend their time together. It's a very sad day for everyone he was a beautiful soul 😭❤️🙏2/22/22
Lembro que rolava vez e outra esse videoclipe na tv! Era uma expectativa ver esses sons que não eram tão populares passar vez e outra no canal aberto! Kkkk
Damn - I haven't listened to this song in years. Now I got goosebumps. I wanna start a band to write just like them, and I need a singer who sings like Mark Lanegan. And I'll never find one.
BUTTERFLY was cancelled as a single for the US market (though the CD single was still released to stores, the label never pushed it to radio or gave this video to MTV) though it was still released as a single in other countries, so they may have gotten this video.
Wow! Didn't recognize them in the 90s. Great song, great voice! Makes me wanna go back and live it all again, but more intense! Oh the girls back then, the festivals, the music...! 😊
Changing memories they fade away The hours and the days While in the sunshine, the sunshine bright I kept you on my mind Cry, cry butterfly Heard it on the wings that you're going to die Cry, cry butterfly Well I'm sick and I want to go home Up to an empty room Four walls around, nothing to be found Of empty promises in a lonesome town Let me lay you down Cry, cry butterfly Heard it on the wings that you're going to die Cry, cry butterfly Well I'm sick and I want to go home The changing memories they fade away In the hours in the day While in the sunshine, the sunshine bright I kept you on my mind Cry, cry butterfly Heard it on the wings that you're going to die Cry, cry butterfly And I'm sick and I want to go home Cry, cry butterfly Heard it on the wings that you're going to die Cry, cry butterfly And I'm sick and I want to go home Well I'm sick and I want to go home
The single greatest voice and best band to come out of the Seattle era. It always happens that the best art is overlooked and underrated until the artist is dead. RIP Mark Lanegan.
C'mone, class of '87 here. Hagar till I die! But these guys jam! Just "Discovered" them about a year ago. Very unique sound and rythum. They seem to cross timelines with their harmony. Know Willie and the Bandits? Some similarities.. Hey no hateingnow! Lol! Peace bro, 4204ever...
eu não entendo como um artista como Mark lanegan pode simplesmente morrer, sério, isso não entra na minha cabeça, pra mim os artistas musicais deveriam ter a vida eterna
I know it's been 11 years since your post, but for anyone who's just discovering Mark Lanegan and Screaming Trees, definitely check out Mad Season with Mark Lanegan and Layne Staley of Alice In Chains! 😍😍😍
I remember in the 90s everybody talked about Tommy Lee being the best drummer but Seattles drummers including Mr Barrett Martin here were some.damn good ones
The harmonies with Mark Lanegan's vocals and Gary and Van's made the song stand out immediately to me. This song was always surrounded by an aura of loss and nostalgia, but even more so now. RIP to an irreplaceable lyricist and vocalist.

One of my favorite songs on the album! Did this video ever get any airplay on MTV? I used to watch 120 Minutes religiously at the time and I don't remember ever seeing it.
I don't remember having seen Screaming Trees on MTV either. Such a shame. In those days without internet there were few other ways to get to know a band. If MTV or your local radio station didn't play it and you local record store didn't have it, what else?
@@MENFUSSMIKE The single release of BUTTERFLY was canceled at the last minute in America, so the video would have never been given to MTV here, although it did play on MTV in other countries.

Sean Hollister now too, they’re dropping quick and it’s a shame cus they’re one of the best bands from any period
This band is criminally underrated.
Fun fact: Almost Every song that is uploaded on TH-cam is criminally underrated.

I'd highly recommend his autobiography it's really rough in places but his boundless charm shines throughout the whole book.
These seattle bands are like the best bands ive ever heard in my life
+Ernesto Torres Ellensburg, Washington. Last time I heard, it was still called Ellensburg, Washington.
Dan D. Warhol yeah no it's still ellensburg. I probably wouldn't know that if I didn't live in ellensburg
Tru dat
Washington in general, for grunge, is a high watermark that probably will never be repeated again, even if this band's from Ellensburg and not Seattle specifically.
Hells Bells I agree ^^
Van Conner, yet another musician from the last great era in rock music, gone too soon. RIP.
RIP dear Mark! You were the Jim Morrison of our generation! We will miss you!😭
Exactly my thoughts. RIP Mark Lanegan.
Damn he hated that comparison 😂
The Jim Morrison of grunge, very similar to Ian Atsbury of Cult
RIP Mark Lanegan. Thank you very much for your voice and contribution to rock music. Very honored to still hear your music.
Lanegan has a soulful, even bluesy quality to his voice. Quite enjoyable.

I saw them at Rock Candy early on ,that show will live always
Came close but the UK tour with Alice in Chains got cancelled but did see Mark a couple of times. Awesome and devastated I won't get another chance
RIP Mark Lanegan. An entire era of great musicians is almost all gone. Grunge will live one even if its messengers did not.
Well said.

Mientras que en el sol, el sol brillante
Te mantuve en mi mente
Llora llora mariposa
Escuché en las alas que vas a morir

Bueno, estoy enferma y quiero ir a casa
Hacia una habitación vacía
Cuatro muros alrededor, nada que encontrar
De promesas vacías en una ciudad solitaria
Déjame recostarte
Llora llora mariposa
Escuché en las alas que vas a morir
Llora llora mariposa
Bueno, estoy enferma y quiero ir a casa
Los recuerdos cambiantes que se desvanecen
En las horas del día
Mientras que en el sol, el sol brillante
