    Transcript (edited)
I just had a lovely morning speaking and meeting people at the congregate Fest in Bishop Auckland at the Town Hall. It was just a bunch of people who were involved in arts and culture in various different ways having a chat to each other about what they're up to, and how we can work together to keep lots of people having opportunities to experience culture in County Durham. So it was really really fun.
And there were people who were there from all different places, so there were entrepreneurs, there were people in business, the mayor was there, had a nice chat to the mayor! And there were also the people who won a competition, the Kickstarter projects, so the artistic projects who've received funding for various different things. There were some really far out there things!
I listened to a man who'd recorded what it sounds like in a pond- and it's not just a bunch of frogs! You can hear the sounds of the water on a molecular level, I guess, and that was a new one on me! So that was fun.
And there's a guy who is another choir leader like me, and he's gone and recorded Medieval music in different areas of Durham Cathedral to see how the different acoustics work. Then his friend is is narrating things at as well, at the same time and I got a live performance of that, which was very unexpected on a Saturday morning in Bishop Auckland!
So well done Bishop Auckland for completely not being what I expected at all, and I'm all dressed up because I was talking about the impact of our community opera on people, on me and how singing benefits our lives basically (which is what I talk about all the time!)
And thank you to Alison Curry who has arranged the event. As a former event organizer and a person who's involved in various events, I know how much effort that went to to make that run so smoothly, so thank you so much to the whole team.
I'll be posting a few stories about the people that I've met today. I was talking about my book, which is out in about two weeks (so I really need to finish it!) It's available for pre-order it's nearly finished, but yeah that'll be my Easter holidays! I will probably spend more time formatting than writing it, because I am quite good at writing and I've never formatted a book before, so wish me luck!
It's called Good Things Happen When I Sing, oh no- Good Things Happen When We Sing, that's what it is! I know good things happen when I sing, but good things happen when everybody sings, so it's called Good Things Happen When We Sing, and it's it's just about easy ways to get involved in singing.
It has lots of heart warming stories about why it's good for you and easy ways to like your voice better and understand your own voice a bit more but not in a particularly technical way it's quite a quick read because I don't know about you, I like to get going quickly.
It's just helpful for you to get going, and if you're just singing in the shower at the moment and thinking about maybe joining a community choir, or you've got an ambition to sing an open mic night. This is what a lot of my private students come to me for, so I just wanted to give everyone the opportunity, even if you don't live anywhere near where my studio is and private coaching isn't the best next step for you.
So that's what I've been talking about, and I got a really good response. I also heard some really good stories from other people about how singing has changed their life. There was one really inspiring story about a lady who went over to Ukraine and she's bringing the Ukrainian person back to live in their house and she went to pick them up from Poland and they learned Andy Williams's 'I love you Baby!' in Ukrainian.
They were so touched about all this singing and bringing people together and everyone, even if they didn't know how to sing in each other's languages, all the kids were just singing (sings Can't Take My Eyes off You by Andy Williams)
I just think that's a gorgeous story about how music brings people together and singing makes you smile, you don't have to be Katherine Jenkins. But we can all have fun with our singing with each other. We don't need to be alone doing it, we can come together and and have a good time and do something positive and free and that's what I'm all about.
So if you need a hand getting to your next step with singing, download my free guide at www.happyinharmonymusic.co.uk and I'll be really really happy to help you. Because I believe in you. Bye!
