Building a Custom Slip Roll

- Fabricating a custom slip roll for rolling sheet metal into tubes, curves, or cones. A slip roll has a removable top roll so that tightly rolled tubes can be removed from the upper roller without too much effort. Hopefully of interest to people doing home shop work like welding, metal-working, grinding, fabrication, car restoration and customization, etc. I started making it before I started filming anything, so it's really sort of a part II video of the build. But hopefully I explained it enough that you can figure out what I did up until the filming started. Safety first! If you do any work like this, wear your safety glasses, your welding gloves, ear protection, etc. And clamp work in a drill press (even though I don't bother sometimes for smaller holes). You'll see I use the grinder one handed a lot. But you really should always be using two hands on it, especially until you get used to how it behaves. And yes, welding in the rain is a bad idea! Enjoy!

Great design! I enjoyed watching
By far one of the best designs I’ve seen. FYI.
1/2 links for 520 chain are available through motorcycle dealers.
Very nice pasta roller.
An incredible curling iron for robots? Beautiful work, watched every minute of it.
Happy New Year.
Jerry Wagner.
Thank you very much.
excellent work
Vert Nice thanks sharing with me
👍👍👍👍
*Muy excelente video felicitaciones. Creo que me haré una versión similar* 👌😊
Muchas Gracias! 😀
Very cool project and great work sir. Thank you for sharing your amazing creation. I thoroughly enjoyed watching you make that. I just starter dabbling in metal work, and hope I can make something like that some day!
Thanks! 😁
Nice vidio thanks for u sharing
Thank you!
@@tomsgarage6264 You're welcome
Nice work. I’ve seen other designs which only drive the middle roller. I like this design better.
What thickness and width combinations have you rolled with this design?
Thanks! 😁 I've done wider pieces of 16 and 14 gauge steel, which were pretty easy. Seems like it could handle narrower thicker pieces. Haven't really pushed it though.
So Tom, any idea what the rated capacity of your machine is? Nice build!
Haven't really had to push it much. Did wider sheets of 16 and 14 gauge pretty easily. I guess if I see the rollers starting to flex that would be when I'd start to worry. They're super stiff though. Thanks!
Why didn’t you go with the hammered blue like everyone else does
At 17:08 what was that bit you were using? Did it cut the keyway slot or was that movie magic? I like your design.
Thanks! Yeah, I just drilled a smaller hole where the keyway was before drilling the big hole that the shaft fits through. So all I needed to do was use a file to square up that smaller round hole to create the keyway slot.
Крути барабан!
Thank you!
😊
Que tal para doblar lámina de acero de 0.20mm..
tamaño de los rodillos
The rollers are 2" diameter. The shafts are 7/8" diameter. Thanks!
Que
красавчег сделал охуенно . респект и уважуха. я буду делать примерно как у тебя но с возможными вариациями как сделаю то обязательно тебе сообщю.😊
You are abusing this small grinder, rather use a powerful 700w grinder
Thanks. I like the smaller grinders because I can use them with one hand, leaving my other hand free for free to hold the parts or to move parts around while I'm grinding curves and stuff.
