Wow!!! So much work. I just spray the water off with the air compressor and hit up the moving parts with wd40. Running the same vehicle through all weather all year around for the last 7 years! 😁
Pro Tip, inspect/clean and re lube the unit after running on the grass in early morning and late evening. It doesn't seem like it but there can be a bunch of water on your lawn in the early and late hours that can easily work its way into your diff's and other transmission components potentially resulting in rust.
Not everyone knows what to clean or how to ? And I didn't know it could affect my bearings. And transmission. So great video. Thank you for your information.
Thanks, I'm adding to watch later so I can continue watching after watching this video about 10 times, I still have to go back to watch it again. You guys help a lot with this kind of stuff. Thanks!
I run a 4x4 slash and 4x4 stampede in wet conditions a lot and they have held up great. I remove the body and spray the truck down with the hose, then do the same cleaning routine as shown in this video up to the 1:15 mark. I use Superlube spray instead of WD-40. Additionally, I clean the spur gear area, because it's easy and it always gets wet and muddy. Undo two screws on the bottom of the chassis and two on the top to remove the rear end for access to clean the spur gear area and spray lube on the bearings. Cleaning is a quick process if you have an electric screwdriver or drill with hex bits and a 7mm socket for removing the wheel nuts.
This is a great Traxxas Channel. It is saved me a lot of grief. In this video however they did make a mistake. Sort of halfway a mistake. When they said use WD-40 to lubricate the bearings and remove any moisture, they're correct that WD-40 is good to remove moisture that's what w d stands for water displacer, but if it gets in the bearings it will destroy the bearings. You never ever run of use WD-40 to lubricate bearings as it is not an oil and it is not a lubricant.
Agreed it's there to penetrate not lubricate, one of the biggest misconceptions about WD40 is it's for maintenance, it's mostly made of paraffin...if you spray it onto grease it breaks it down in no time.
Same with my old beater ftx but my traxxas completely different story that gets a bit of wd40 or gt85 around it after every use only the wheel bearings and it still runs fine
I love Traxxas because we can work and maintain cars that we can't do with our real driving car, Traxxas make things easier and fun to work on, just like Legos going 70+, good work Traxxas ☺☺☺❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
😅 i drove my udr into streams for 2 days It was a campaign trip an ñd I let the car sit for 2 days after the trip cause I was tired I go to spin my tires to make sure everything was free and well my differentials were rusted shut so I spent the next 8 hours getting everything to working order and just packed it with grease like overkill If you ever have rust just take the parts and soak them in pb blaster and it will eat the rust that way you don’t have to buy new parts and then re grease afterwards
Like legit streams? I’ve ran my maxx in wet parking lots/ very shallow puddles and did anything but hose it down and blow it dry, should I be worried?😬I’m planning on greasing the wheel bearings this weekend, I’m just worried around the diffs
I have a 6S slash and after I fully submerge it (multiple times) I just drive it around really fast until it's completely drying get the water out of the bearings and then it's perfectly fine it still works now
I find it oddly disturbing to poke small holes in my tires. I get it’s to help water drain but doesn’t it just give water a higher chance of GETTING IN?
Lol I know I'm late but. Everyone does this it's common practice Traxxas tires already have holes punched in then in the inside so do alot of brands. It helps to keep water out and the tires from ballooning
1:02 there is some rust on some of the screws. I think they should use stainless steel. Instead of the black finish ones. I used to have a Traxxas Slash. And all the screws got like that.
You sprayed wd40 into the slipper clutch area. I followed this video and now my stampede make a high squeal sound upon acceleration which makes me think the oil is now causing the slipper clutch to slip too much. Are you sure it is safe to spray lubricants into the slipper clutch?
Do not use WD-40 in the manner shown in this video. I am not sure why it is shown but the use cases in the video are terrible. I spray it on non-moving parts only for rust resistance and water repelling. Use grease on all moving parts and keep WD-40 away from bearings and moving parts it drys them out and makes them squeaky and removes any grease on them.
WD40 is not meant to lubricate it's a penetrant for freeing off seized in bolts etc. It's actually made up of mostly paraffin, it breaks down grease like a degreaser. You need some sort of chain lube spray to keep the bearings lubricated.
it is the motor. I had the same problem with my slash. it is probebly the motor. you should replace it. and for a servo, just buy something better like me. my servo to died. i just got a new and better one. and one question, when did your car stop running and have you ran it before that. if yes, on wich surfase?
Synthetic grease is the best choice for gears, axles and bearings that carry heavy loads, transmit high torque, operate at high temperatures or are subject to shear stress. Like lithium grease, Marine grease is formulated to lubricate high-load items. But it’s thicker and far more water resistant than lithium grease.
I was playing with my slash 4x4 and went on this huge jump. My car ended up landing in the ocean...still works fine after a year bit I bet everything is rusted
Sucks you guys don't do anything for the lower end models like the latrax prerunner! Been looking for anything to help me figure out why it will turn the front wheels, but won't move!
good afternoon, I have an e-revo vxl 1/16 and his tsm is making the serv tremble a lot, leaving him uncontrollable on the asphalt, making the car even cloak, do you know how to fix it?
Big tip- WD40 does not help with rust it only prevents it so when using it, do it as soon as u get it out the box if WD40 is applied after the Vehicle is has been subjected to water or other liquids then it will rust from the inside out.
I need some help. After a minute of running in my rustler Vxl esc blinks red. It is running a fully charged battery. I have reset the whole car, and it seems to work. But the next run I do after that, it doesn’t work again

I've had my Stampede 4×4 vxl brushless for 6 years now and never once it collaborated with water up until last night after that snow fall.

WD40 IS A water deterrant, NOT a lube. Use a silicone lubricant on the metals to prevent rust. It also works like rainX it just beads right off
