After applying online, I have my students take a hard copy of their resume and go in to the place they applied - tell HR or the manager that they've applied online and introduce themselves, say I'm excited to meet you and can't wait to hear from you soon. It's an awesome way to make a connection beyond paper!
EXTREMELY helpful! The first thing I do when it comes to something new, is a ton of RESEARCH. Your videos are the best I’ve come across so far! Thank you so much, Mr. Anthony! 😁 I’m turning in my application tonight for Chick-fil-A! UPDATE: I GOT THE JOB! 😃
Hey great video! I work as a recruiter, so I would advise that individuals include a extracurriculars section to speak about leadership experience from basketball or, the debate team. Recruiters spend on average 6-8 seconds on a resume, so it’s important that the space at the top of a resume is used tactically. Also, people should include metrics or numbers from their experiences. So, number of clients served, customer satisfaction rating, average number of children attended to at a time, etc. Lastly, high school students should prioritize gaining/presenting customer service skills because those jobs are more likely to consider hiring them right out of high school.
Kellie Meyer: I work as a recruiter and recently started a career advice channel, so I wanted to share some additional tips for your students! If they have no work experience, tell them to either plan to start a service type business that summer (lawn care, cleaning, babysitting, etc.) or to volunteer/job shadow with a relative or close family friend. During this experience they should focus on gaining customer experience and work to be able to demonstrate dependability, punctuality, and dedication to a future employer. They should also look to have some numerical results to provide (average clientele size/ number of customers, impact of projects completed, customer satisfaction percentages, etc.). Also, when writing in an experience section, they should think S.T.A.R. Format (situation, task, action, results). Hope this helps with what you’re teaching them!
Thanks for dropping this gem!!!! Years later this video is still relevant and extremely useful!! I was able to land a corporate job utilizing the template provided!!!! Thanks again Mr.Anthony, continue to inspire the youth!!!!
Your videos are great man. I show my HS Touch System Data Entry classes your videos. They always align with our "real-world" activities. Keep em coming!
Anthony! Thank you, for all you are doing for our youth in America!!! This was a wonderful video. I wish I had this help back in the days. Wow! Armando is the secret weapon with those 12,000 resumes; talking about authority! I pray that our high schoolers and every person out there take advantage of your efforts and use the resources you are sharing! They are absolutely great and VERY Useful. God bless you all.
Thank you so much for these videos. I am a special education high school teacher and several of my students are very interested in obtaining a job and how to get there. Your videos are fun, informational, and step - by - step which is very helpful for my visual and younger learners. Thank you so much for all you do to help our young people become successful.
Anthony I enjoyed this video and several others. I will be sharing them with my students with special needs. I am looking forward to seeing their response. They will be working on creating a resume utilizing their volunteer experiences. Thanks for this.
I already have my resume and I want to go see if I want to keep those references on there and I want to see if I have my GPA on there. I am funny alot and I think I'd get along with you if I met you! Your name starts with A and you get an A for teaching us how to do a resume! Good job!! You ain't a failure. Hahah! I am her daughter Emily, this isn't really Debra.
Should I always list my past job experience no matter what it was, or how long ago it was? Or does it matter? Also how many references should I put down?
robert Butcher: hi Robert, I recently started a career advice channel so I wanted to reach out when I saw your question. You should definitely list your 2-3 most recently completed jobs. Only include other past jobs older than that if they are directly related to the job you’re applying to.
I will work full-time because more movie-goers want to see movies during the afternoon and evenings and take movie-goers' orders whether they want soda, popcorn, candy, etc. Also, I will clean the auditoriums before/after the show.
Hello there, my class and I watched your video today and it was wonderful. Unfortunately, the link you provided to download the mock resume is not working. Is there anyway you can upload this link again? I'm interested in having my students use this for our upcoming resume assignment.
Hey A.O! I loved your video! I am a Ethnic Studies/History teacher and I am using this video for a resume lesson plan. I have mostly Juniors & Seniors. Would you be available to do a zoom conference with my students sometime before the end of May for Q & A?
So for the background and history, I haven't done anything to get paid for (at least that I remember) But I have volunteered at a chiropractor's office, and I feel like that would be something valuable to have on a resume. But I don't know how I would add it. Could you help me, please?
I am not able to download the resume. Would you mind sharing it? We are looking forward to incorporate your resources in our local homeschool co-op. Than you for all the time, effort and love you put into your videos:)
ZAX LAX: hi, saw your question so I wanted to reach out. I just started my own career advice channel since I work as a recruiter. You honestly probably want to keep that section brief. If you wanted to list something, make it clever. So, if I was a builder I’d put master builder looking to craft your vision. Or a teacher’s would be like “molding young minds for the future”. Basically, you are just restating your craft in a fancy way that will catch someone’s attention
Two questions what would I put if I helped take care (babysit) in a sense at my Church during the sermons? I have also participated in Youth and Government but not sure where or what to put down for the YMCA Youth and Government program I was in.

I was a patrol captain in grade 5&6 (I helped kids cross the street before school, after school, and at lunch everyday and assigned patrols to their posts as captain), would it make sense to list it on my resume as someone going into 11th grade?
I have a real question for you, is it possible to actually get a job at 13. I am currently 12 years old and have been spending the better part of my year building up my C.V by volunteering, running small businesses, doing small jobs for people and researching for hours almost every night. It’s one of my greatest aspirations to have a job at a young age and make some of my own money and I would love to know if it is actually possible. Thank you for listening
As of right now I compete on my highschools esports team and I am a team captain. Last season we went completely undefeated. I want to put this on my resume but I am worried gaming may not look to good. Should I do it?
Gaming isn't nice, being comptetive in it proves you have amazing analytical and problem solving skills. The only issue with gaimg is that its public image are people who are extremely addicted to it and never do anything else. You just need to portray it in a professional way, and also highlight that you were good at some certain subjects to eliminate the idea of you possibly slakcing off on the job and gaming instead, Just a hobby that you're amazingly good at. Also, congrats by the way!
I'm a junior in college, should I put the specific degree I am going for? I have a few years work experience as well, I've worked at a total of 4 jobs, should I list them all?
Hi Tim, saw your question! I’m a recruiter for a hospital system, so I figured I’d give you some tips in case you’re still job hunting. In your education section only put your degree, the school you went to, and either a completion date or expected completion date. If you have a high gpa, and honor roll status, you can put that as well. As for your work experience, you should include at least your two most recent positions, but be sure to evaluate how you can make your experience relevant to the job that you’re applying to. Hope this helps!
Does a mentorship that you did in 8th grade work? My favorite local restaurant is hiring all positions and in 8th grade I mentored with the owner of the restaurant for 20 hours.
Sumukhi Devi: Hey, hope you ended up getting that job! I just started my own career advice channel, so I wanted to reach out when I saw your question. In that case, it would be useful to include that experience because it was directly related to that company. You could include it in a section called “job immersion experience” and talk about what you did there, for how long, and who you worked with.”
I'm going onto 9th grade, so on the resume where it says "education" what do i put down? I'm sure that the man said that middle school education stuff doesnt matter.
OliThaDon: Hi Oli, you can say what high school you are going to, and in the years section say “anticipated completion date: 20xx” whatever that would be. That way they know you’re in school and you don’t have to bring up middle school.

I am doing a resume writing workshop with my 11th grade students (about 500 total) next month and this helped SO MUCH. Thank you for posting this!
