Actually you can find the Piri Piri sauce in the US today...It's NANDO'S Piri Piri sauce, available at many supermarkets is the US. (Nando's was originally a South African Restaurant chain started some decades ago. With Mozambique as a nextdoor neighbor and a large Portuguese exile population in place, it naturally took hold over there. Nando's today has restaurants in UK and beyond)

I don't understand why people cut horizontally towards the root of the onion. The natural rings provide the size of the pieces, all you need to do is choose how wide of cut you take. There is no reason to cut horizontally and as you can see it results in different sizes.

ATK might use & share this technique; to insert a toothpick into the shrimp’s 2nd shell joint (1 joint forward of the tail) & below the alimentary canal (digestive track) & as you lift up on the toothpick it’s extracted in one piece.

I’m sorry, as much as I like Frank’s hot sauce for chicken wings, it is no replacement for peri peri peppers or peri peri sauce. Frank’s red hot runs 450 Scoville units. Cayenne pepper runs 30 to 50,000 Scoville units. A Piri Piri pepper runs 300,000 Scoville units. About that have a good hot Habanero!
