    A neat way to add sounds to a acoustic kit. His digital kit sounds so real to my ears.

    Hi Michael, I was hoping you could answer a question for me.
    I bought the roland td 15 kv and I love it but I'm always looking for more.
    Does this tm-2 hook up easily to the roland td 15 module? How do you hook it up and is it simple to add it to the sounds of the td 15? Thank you.

    • @michaelschack
      @michaelschack  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the TD-15 is perfectly compatible with TM-2 as TD-15 has a MIDI OUT connector which will transmit any incoming triggering signal from your TD-15 pads straight into the TM-2 (through its MIDI In). That's how I'm using it here with the TD-30. Lightning fast and convenient!

    Is this module only to trigger short samples, or you can launch big samples, like 3 or 4 min. I think of a custom metronome sound with a vocal backup to play along on an acoustic kit ?

    Hi Michael. I want to link 2 Tm-2 modules together. I know that l can send program change from the first module to the 2nd module (which is great) but if I MIDI out of that 2nd module in to a computer (to play vst sounds) will it send MIDI note data from both of the modules to the computer? Like MIDI Thru. Thank you for your help.

    • @michaelschack
      @michaelschack  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that should be possible. Check the MIDI settings in the system settings of TM-2. But the fastest and more convenient setup would be using the new TM-6Pro for this. Depends on your available budget as well of course.

    Hi there,
    I don't know if you already answer this : I have roland triggers that I'm planning to connect to a TM-2 module but can I easily trigger superior drummer sound library using TM-2 ? And if so, is a midi-to-usb cable enough to connect to my laptop ?

    • @michaelschack
      @michaelschack  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Oswen Lafitte TM-2 has no MIDI out, so you won't be able to connect it directly to your computer... You can do this with any other Roland module though.

      Those fx are mainly designed to put on top of the internal/sd card samples you trigger from pads or the trigger units on drums, not the drum microphone sounds goikg into the TM-2 what some people are trying to do.

    Hey Michael! Great video! Have a question regarding "MIDI IN" in the TM-2. Can I attach a Multi MIDI Pad Like the "Roland SPD-30" or "ALESIS Control Pad" to send MIDI notes to the TM-2 MIDI Input and trigger a multitude of Sounds like a mini kit? Example: 8 Pads coming from the SPD-30 or an "Alesis CP" adding a Roland BT-1 / Roland KT-1 via the 1st TM-2 Input using the Splitter and Finally a Roland PD-105 on the 2nd TM-2 Input as a snare drum. It would be a total of 11 Triggers with that setup... I would love to know your response.

    Love this video! Would layering with an acoustic drum kit be as affective in your opinion? Mainly just the kick and snare to get the extra power behind it and change the sound. I play a wide range of song with different sound styles in a live setting.

    • @michaelschack
      @michaelschack  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that's what the TM-2 has been mainly designed for. Acoustic drums, e-drums, anything goes. Roland Designers focused mainly on using RT triggers with TM-2 which are attached to your acoustic drums (Kick, Snare, Toms etc.) - ideal sound reinforcement and impact effect for acoustic drummers playing a variety of songs/styles.

    How do you record your sounds from the modules combined? Can you record only midi (in cubase for example) and listen directly back to the recorded modules sounds? I heard you both need midi/in and midi/out to listen back? Because hooking 2 modules you loose the midi/in? And is there any latency this wise?

    • @michaelschack
      @michaelschack  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Remon Masseling Latency is minimal, because the triggering is already converted into MIDI when sending it out from your module into TM-2. You hook up from module MIDI Out into TM-2 MIDI In. When you record all MIDI into Cubase or any other DAW, you can then send it back to the modules and record the audio on separate tracks. I do this all the tile this way. Grtz

    So tm2 will only be able to trigger the kick and snare on my drum kit? Or any other 2 drums I pick?

    Thank you, you are an inspiration to us e drum newbies!

    • @michaelschack
      @michaelschack  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Any other drums as well! Drum pads = you can chose with MIDI note numbers. Triggers, you can connect 4 (or 2 dual triggers) and chose the instruments in ™-2.

  • @Nivej8180
    @Nivej8180 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    So how many bars of loop are possible? Are they continuous? Or do you have to keep hitting the trigger over again?

    • @michaelschack
      @michaelschack  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nivej8180 You can just have one very loooooooonnnnggg sample as well, depending on how big your SD Card is. So you can also trigger a song and make it loop, or divide it in sections and then loop it from different instrument triggers. Check the SPD-SX performance clips if you would like to see more examples of this concept! Grtz

  • @richardwilliams1310
    @richardwilliams1310 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Like to see someone make their own samples on an acoustic drum kit and then trim/edit those samples and replay those sounds using triggers and/or pads. It would be nice to see if it could be done in a quick time using the same drum rack so you go from loud playing to quiet playing in a home environment and get use to the feel and use of each setup. Pearl traveller kit/Ludwig Breakbeats and Zildjian L80s, drum microphones, QSC TouchMix mixer, Akai MPC Live, Roland TM-2, Axis Double Pedal with eKits or similar and setup so you can quickly change from one to the other, quick release cymbal toppers. You could also use the setup for recording and step sequencing and over dubbing your drum parts. Maybe nobody else sees any sense in this, lol

    • @michaelschack

      It's simple : snare trigger uses two signals, tom and kick trigger only one, which fits with one of those two dual trigger inputs ( one input czn process two idependent signals)

      Rodolphe Chaillou Yes you can use EZ Drummer samples, but first you will need to export those from that software onto an SD Card. EZ Drummer has a particular way to organise their samples, so best is to resample by exporting them and then transfer to SD for use inTM-2. But there's many totally TM-2 ready sampkes on the net! Rodolphe Chaillou Il faut que tu a des sons spécifiques pour les ghosts et les accents, donc au moins deux différents. En plus, ils doivent être "compatibles" pour avoir une unité musicale. Alors il fzut que tu exportes deux sons séparés pour chaque instrument.

Example - connected to a drum machine or sampler or synth like Elektron Digitakt, Akai MPC Live, Boss Dr Rhythm series, Alesis SR16 or 18, Moog Minotaur, Elektron Digitone, 1010music Blackbox, etc and could you assign different external midi sounds to different triggers and pads? @@michaelschack I have the Roland td17kvx and I have already made an extension to the AUX socket for crash so another socket does not have the td 17. I want to make an extension to second floor Tom (Tom 4). I bought the Roland tm 2 which has 2 Triggers slots. knows how I can save new sounds (Tom 1 2 3 4) to brain tm2 so I can have toms sounds on the new pad (roland pdx100) to add to edrums?

    Is there a built in metronome? And if so, can it be routed to only go out through the headphone out and not the main outputs?

    Are there velocity settings on the tm-2? If I for example wanted the same velocity out of every hit no matter how hard I hit the head? And will there be sounds fitted to replace your entire kick drum?

    • @michaelschack
      @michaelschack  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you can chose in between multiple velocity curves, apart from the linear one.

      Michael Schack And supposedly, a tm-2 would work as well as, for example ,an spd-sx for triggering a kickdrum in an "extreme" metal situation/ at great speeds? And then I'm talking latency- and pickupwise/sensitivetywise. It should be as solid ( in technical terms ) and without any real reason for increased misstriggering or anything like that, compared to something like the spd-sx, right? There shouldn't actually be something that makes this worse or less suitable for triggering your kickdrum? I mean, this should pick up as many hits as an spd-sx? Sorry for all the questions, I just wan't to be sure about what I'm buying. I think I heard you saying somewhere that the tm-2 uses the same processing unit as an spd-sx, am I correct? Supposedly that should mean that it should be able to work as well for my application? I'm not looking for a bunch of features, just something solid, reliable and "quick-thinking". Would you say that I've found the right module? ( I use a Roland RT-10K btw ). I thank you for the help my good sir!

    It's just a shame that the TD-30 module can't do layering it's self like the yamaha dtx900 module can. I had to make a choice between a TD-30 and DTX950 recently and went with the TD-30 because I loved the feel of it but I must admit that the yamaha module has better features.

    • @michaelschack
      @michaelschack  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Yamaha has an 8,2miliseconds latency, the TD-30 only 2,9... Also, the TD-30 sounds are genuine SuperNatural compatible, the Yamaha sounds come from the synth department sound banks. Big difference. And the TD-30 CAN do some layering : check the "ADD" function for snare and HH in the instrument edit page.

    • @jhdrummer4815
      @jhdrummer4815 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Insteresting the TD-30 can do layering, because I'm tempting to buy the Roland TM-2 only for this purpose. Specifically I would like to add a layer of snare to my TD- 30 and I if can solve it with the TD-30 module itself, the better. But I just looked quickly on the menu and I can't really figure out how.

    I’m seeing one of these used on marketplace right now for 100$….. this might be what I need for my spd-30 mini kit…… help get around the issue of no user sample import. This will help beef up the kick and snare and up to 4 user samples

    Why doesnt Roland simple make a module that allows you to layer your sounds within the module ???

    • @michaelschack
      @michaelschack  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because it will cost you extra flash memory, extra processing and increase the latency because if audio and editing streaming. So it's better to keep it outside if the main low latency module, and leave that choice to the user. It's like with computers : external sound cards equals improved processing in your main unit. Cheers

    • @richievpiano
      @richievpiano 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      My Yamaha Double Zone [DZ] DTX V2 module allows this with any DZ pad. The center and rim can sound together on one hit. Choose any sound I want to layer. Any full sized DZ module likely does the same. The TM-2 is a small module If a DZ then should also layer on one pad.

    Are you daisy chaining through the TM-2 or are you using the RTs on you electronic drums?

    • @michaelschack
      @michaelschack  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm daisy chaining TM-2 through MixIn on TD-30 module - 1 RT is on the small acoustic snare behind me, TD-30 pads are triggering TM-2 though MIDI

    • @edsalisch4322
      @edsalisch4322 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Would you recommend using a splitter to trigger a full four piece kit? I do think this concept of a small "brain" is great for the gigging city drummer, which is a niche that roland was missing. I honestly can't schlepp my snare, my bass pedal and cymbals with a TD20 brain all on the Metro. Its too damn heavy

    • @michaelschack
      @michaelschack  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      ed salisch Yes, you can use splitter cables - stereo jack to 2 x mono jack will enable you to trigger 4 instruments at the same time. You can use 4 buckets if you want and trigger 4 ™-2 instruments x 100 kits = 400 instruments from there if you want, including some loops you can trigger straight from the ™-2 SD card as well.

      I'm using the Beats Pro (professional studio model) , which are perfect to balance the low end and isolate enough when I hit those pads really hard and when having the pick up presentation microphone so close to the ears. I bought those for 150 Euro (instead of those 385 Euros in the store) online on a promo site, so for me a very good bargain!
