    Link Differences> strong: if A is true B is false, if B is true A is false; weak: if A is true all other candidates are false, but if A is false nothing is known about the other candidates. Therefore, because of these strong & weak relationships, this results in most AIC’s (alternate inference chain) starting with a strong link and then alternating weak strong weak ending with a strong link AND ALSO starting by saying ‘If the first candidate has a strong link and is FALSE the next is True and the next link being weak one Knows the next candidate is False and then one knows with the next strong link the next candidate is True’, and keep alternating and end with a strong link and a true candidate.

    I love your videos Robin, helped me a ton, but when you are explaining chains you kept saying that if the end point was true, then strong link value was false, thus weak link value was true! No, unless I am completely confused it doesn't work that way.
    If end point is true, then since it sees the square in question, that square cannot be true. If end point is false, then you use the "chain." End point false, then Strong linked value true, so weak linked value is false, so strong linked value must be true, and since it sees the square under consideration, the value in that square is false. T
    he "chain" cannot be used if end point is true, since the initial strong link value would be false, the weak link value does not have to be true, as there are multiple cells with same value along the weak link.

    Could you please explain the logic behind the requirement to alternate strong and weak links? Both links perform the same logical function, so I am confused as to why they need to alternate rather than being used in any order.

    • @SudokuGuy
      @SudokuGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The turbo fish 2 string kite and skyscraper patterns all require 3 links.
      they must alternate in order to have one end of the chian true and the other end false. Otherwise the puzzle cannot be solved. See more videos coming and look at tutorial 68. It is important to understand the a strong link (also called a conjugate pair) always has one end true and the other end false. Hang in there

    I'm not sure about the logic with weak links: in the example on 11:04, when you say that the fact that r2c1 isn't a 9 implies necessarily that r2c6 IS a 9, IMO is wrong, as there are other options in box 2 that could be 9 (r3c5 for example, which would make r7c6 a 9, just the opposite of what you get from your deduction).
    If anyone could shed some light would be great.
    Thank you for your videos and your great channel!

    • @SudokuGuy

      Hi diego. I think you don't understand that in a weak link in this case we are only referring to the cells of the end of a link. In this case it is the end of a strong link. I suggest you watch videos I have done on strong and weak links and conjugate pairs. All the best. hang in there.

      @@diegobolso2005 It's not YOU that doesn't understand. He is not explaining the 'turbot fish' correctly! (btw - it is called a 'turbot fish', not a 'turbo fish'.) And he is completely wrong when he says that since r2c1 is not a 9, r2c6 will be a 9.' The link between r2c1 and r2c6 is a WEAK LINK which means that both of them cannot be true but they CAN both be false! He is confused and completely wrong with his explanation. The correct explanation of that example is simply - if r3c3 is a 9, then r7c3 is not a 9. And if r3c3 is not a 9, then you can work through the chain and show that r7c6 is a 9 so r7c3 still cannot be a 9.

    For the strong-weak chain, logically, why can we say that if the second number in that chain is false, that the third is true when there are two other cells that could be a 5? I assume it just works, but I don't understand the actual logic.

    It is not called a 'turbo fish', it's called a 'turbot fish' (which is an x chain with a length of 4). And he makes the same obvious mistake (at least 4 times) beginning at 8:19 and again at 9:16. He says if this is true (pointing to r2c3 being a 5), then this is not true (pointing to r3c1 being a 5). If that's not true, then this is going to be true (pointing to r3c7). Well, obviously r3c1 not being a 5 does not force r3c7 to be a 5! There are six 5's in row 3! (Remember, the blue link between r3c1 and r3c7 is a weak link meaning that they cannot both be true but they can both be false.) The correct way to explain the example is simply - if r2c3 is a 5, then r7c3 cannot be a 5! And if r2c3 is not a 5, then go through the chain and show that r7c7 is a 5 so r7c3 still cannot be a 5. He then makes the same mistake while explaining a turbot fish on 9's.
