As this is for beginners I have added snyder notation I.e. little numbers go in only 2 cells to begin with.
Chapters
0-min 25 min for beginners and Intermediate levels. TMB, LCR, Cross/meet, matching pairs, 3 empty cells, ramifications, and 1 cell investigation. locked little numbers (advanced rule of exclusion tutorial #11)
25 min to end Locked little numbers, Finned X wing using rows, Finned X wing using columns. For more information about finned X wings see below.
2 rules for finned X wings
1 Either the fin is true (correct) OR the X wing is true (correct)
2 2 types of finned X wings:
(a) Using rows
If the fin has a small # in a row, and is also in a corner of a possible X wing, then, if that small # is also in the same block, but, in the column of the possible X wing, it can be removed.
(b) Using columns
If the fin has a small # in a column, and is also in the corner of a possible
X wing, then, if that small # is also in the same block, but in the row of the possible X wing, it can be removed.
Note: A fin is always found in the corner block of an X wing. Removal of small #’s only occurs in the same block. No numbers are removed from the fin.

I love Finned X-Wings. Thank you for featuring this. I’ve found that Finned X-Wings can usually also be solved using Empty Rectangles, which is possible with the 5 and 6 examples you showed. Great video.
Good to know! Thanks for your support.
Among lots sudoku videos, I enjoy your series most 😊. It’s easy to understand, generous & humorous as well.
Some advanced techniques I read & watch alot on other channels but unable to comprehend until watching yours. Greatly appreciate 🎉.
By the way, can you explain more about ALS (almost block set), Forcing chain?
I hope to in the future. hang in there. have fun learning by watching my videos and practice. Thanks for your kind comments and please tell others about my free site.

30:00 As an alternative to the Finned X-Wing(s) at this point in the puzzle, a Skyscraper on 5s in the rows (r6c5/r9c4, connected by r69c8) eliminates the candidate 5s in r45c4 and r7c5.
You could then follow that up with another Skyscraper, this time on 6s in the columns (r4c7/r5c5, connected by r7c57), which eliminates the candidate 6s in r4c4 and r5c8, and the puzzle is singles to the end.
Either way, an enjoyable solve!

@@SudokuGuy that is good to know.
so awesome that you teach beginners and advanced players - Thank you!
Glad you think so! Please tell others about my site, the most popular site on line to learn sudoku step by step. Robin
I'm relatively new to sudoku and some of the techniques so I'm wondering if I'm misunderstanding part of the solve or just found a different path. At the 20:30 mark, I saw, in row 4, a 57, 67, and 56 which (if I understand things correctly) would lock 5, 6, and 7 to those cells leaving 1 & 3 for the other two cells. Looking down from each of those two cells shows where the 1 and 3 go. Did I find a correct alternative to your path? Did you see it and deliberately not use it because it would affect your finned x-wing? Anyway, it got solved.
While I watch some of Sudoku Swami and Cracking the Cryptic, I prefer learning from you. I appreciate the hours you've put into these videos.
Hello Jim...you are now looking at advanced puzzles and let me assure you that when you reach this level there may be several ways to go....much depends on what you spot, and when , also how much you know already. If you are at this level you are doing very well. Hang in there.
Hi Robin - I noticed that as soon as you wrote the 2 in box 7, you could have written the 4 too!
Yes....thanks for pointing this out. It is easy to miss things eh!!!
Wow that’s serious skill! Did you create the finned x wing technique?
No, but I have invented other tricks, teminiloies, and patterns. I think I learnt it from Jason Linhart. "enjoy sudoku"

Where do downloads of your tutorials go on my personal desktop computer? Are they on my computer or in the cloud somewhere. If on my computer, where are they downloaded to because I cannot see them in my download files? I have the same questions for my iPhone since I originally downloaded them to my iPhone?
Thanks for your question. If you go to my channel page (see link below) You will see all tutorials and lessons. I also announce on the COMMUNITY tab on the channel page when I am uploading a new video. Generally I upload around the 21 or 22 of the month The videos go live on one of those dates depending on where you live in the world. Hope this helped

Going to have to study the “Finned x Wing” a bit more, right now it’s a bit confusing. I’ll get there though!

@@SudokuGuy Thank you for the encouragement! I actually have been watching some of your videos for about the last year or so. My favorite Sudoku puzzles to do are the “Extreme” ones and they have been so, for a lot longer than that. Been just using the basic techniques plus the few that I have figured out on my own. I didn’t even know that there were advanced techniques until I discovered you. I finally have the X Wing and the W Wing more or less figured out, I think. Some of them like this one, the Y or the YX Wing, the hatchet and the Swordfish(?), ones like that are still confusing….and yes, I continue to watch until I “get it”. Thank YOU, for being here and helping us all who love Sudoku, to be able to play it even better! ☺️ (Oh..and yes, I subbed a long time ago! ☺️)
Hello Fern I't great to hear from and know that you are a great support. Hang in there as it take a while to learn how to spot advanced techniques. You can do it with practice and patience. sometimes it is worth looking at one of my videos more than once. Hang in there.
@@SudokuGuy thankyou Robin, with your tutorials.
I did the puzzle with a simple skyscraper technique.
For No 6, R5 C5 and R7 C5. &
R4C7, R7 C7. Top 6 s pointing towards 6 in R4 C4.
Then the puzzle solved step by step.
Congratulations ....yes there are many ways to solve.
None can produce such excellent puzzle solved with great aplomb. Fortunately, I could solve this puzzle putting big numbers first to verify next with those of yours without any conflict.
Long live You and your Channel.
Congratulations and thanks for your support.
@29:45 How do we know that if the fin is not true, the 5 in r7c8 will be the 5? Looks like r7c5, r7c8, or r9c8 could contain the 5. Just looking at the numbers in the finned x-wing area, this question may arise for others. Then, I remember the premise: Either the x-wing is true or the fin is true. So if we assume the fin is not true, then the x-wing would be true, eliminating the other 5s in column 8.
Are you going to do any more videos? If you do, I suggest showing how you spot some of the more difficult to find patterns that may be profitable to pursue. One could waste a lot of time looking if not able to spot the needed elements.
Thanks for your comments. I suggest that you go to the site “enjoy sudoku “ an app by Jason Linhart who explains this well.

at 4:22 the bottom center cell could be a 9 as well (2, 8 and 9)
so I think you were just lucky at 8:37 that it worked out, because that cell could be an 8 or a 9
I am still learning correct me if I am wrong
It could have been but as you say it is a 9. thanks for sharing.
Nice vid 👍

where can I get this white board?
I had it made for me. I also had the stencil made for me. I may be selling it in the future if I retire Have fun and hang in there as you watch and learn.
Prior to the finned x-wing, I noted that the 3 empty cells in column 6 of box 8 nust contain 1-4-7 and therefore no room for a 6 which is therefore in cell 16 (column/row notation).
Thanks for your comment. Yes you are right Robin
