And... what a TWAT! The site was agricultural fields and area to the rear was Poppleton Sugar Beet Factory which operated 1926-2006 and demolished 2009. Massive factory and extensive railway sidings. To PJ's right at 7.10, adjacent property appears to be a former school demolished 2017-2018.
The original confectionery was Craven's Sweets and constructed in the1960s replacing the Coppergate factory in York. The previous factory in York was demolished in the 1970s and archaeological dig revealed Viking era artifacts. Where PJ took the drone up, they had a sign in the 80's, "Cravens Candyland Home of Fine Confectionary". Some photos referenced it as the Millfield Lane factory and show a petrol pump for their vehicles (parking at 7.36 bottom left). The business dated to 1822 and Mary Ann Craven of York. The vacant parcel next door was Manor Church of England Academy c.1965-2009 and later demolished.
Drones are a new thing relatively speaking and are used nefariously a lot more than manned aircraft. BUT, some massive assumptions from an old fool there.
