- In this video, I'll walk you through why this batch of Lockwood 005 locks is being discarded. Despite being newly installed in a recently built house, the owner faces unexpected challenges. Keys cannot be easily duplicated due to a lack of key blanks, forcing them to carry separate keys for different doors and preventing keying alike. Additionally, finding plugs to convert the lock back to standard keys is difficult, with most locksmiths unable to supply them promptly. Considered buying replacement plugs from lock and key?
To expensive, ro many to keep , in each van. Over $600 worth of parts to Cary for locks you only do once a year, that offer no benefit over our own restricted keys.. if we I install our own, we already have the parts on board, we can cut them keys when needed, better- cheaper- more logical solutions,,,, in the bin they go,,, it's like throwing hoops with deadbolts and the bin is the hoop, fun for the whole workshop

I’ve modified 570 plugs before, it just means that after you shorten it, you have to redrill and tap the screw holes
Lots of rorts out there. Helped a lady today who was quote... wait for it… $6,000 for a new window key from the builder!
6k for a Windows key, wow are you shore he was a builder and not a so called emergency locksmith advertising $29 service calls,, so many dishonest people waiting for the ironic hand of life to help them out
Absolutely hate that security key system. Many a customer comes into the shop with that and don't like the responses. Also hate the 005s, it's the only assa product that annoys me. Generally just use carbine deadbolts
What do you hate about them?
Maybe its the way to rekey - the tail piece on the cylinders that fall out - the non standard plug - the stubby bolt throw - the cost,, Im just guessing
@@DrLockShop Non standard plug? 001 inner is standard.
Stubby bolt is probably more secure. It’s great for narrow frames too.
Why do you hate Lockwood so much?
I think you have completely missed the point about these locks. They are far superior to a standard double-sided or single sided deadbolt. Why don’t you just carry barrels for them?
Because they are not available, they cost money, $20 per side × each lock type, its easyer to convert the lock to my current restricted key profile and have repeate business then use this Lockwood key profile and lose future business and waiste money on a restricted profile I can not control, that offers no benefits of the standard restricted key structuer. Or just swap it out to a standard key profile so the owner can have all their locks work I ng on the one key for convenience, better then carrying a bunch of keys for a new house. The restricted key profile was not needed and only makes the customers life harder and more complex, the security gain was insignificant and a waist of money offered by the provider. IM pretty shore I got the point, loud and clear, sell the customer rubbish at any cost money money 💰.... it's not a moral I use in business
@@DrLockShop Replacing a 005 with a carbine or brava deadbolt is literally ripping the customer off. I should have made it clear I meant c4 001 inner barrels. Not the restricted Lockwood profile.
005 is the best deadbolt on the Australian market. It really sucks that our deadbolts are so crap compared to what the US get.
@@Dhshshsh-hw7lt Do 001 inner barrels fit the 005? Also, if they're only 4 pin, would you also be using them for the external?
