- This was recorded off of the USA Network's "Night Flight" TV show from 1981. Joe's jumpin' and jivin'! Video quality is not that great, but about what you'd expect for a VHS transfer off of a 40 year old cassette. Audio is pretty good, though.

One of the most brilliant live albums ever made
JJ is CRIMINALLY underrated.
He's soooo versatile. I remember when I was in college, we all LOVED "What's the Use of Getting Sober When You're Going to Get Drunk Again." We were in our 20s, and it was our theme song. I had no idea he's the same age I am!
This is awesome, love me some jumpin jive, one of my top 10 desert island records.
This Guy is an Amazing Musician. He goes from New wave pop to big band jazz to Classical and even prog. He should be in the Hall of Fame!
My buddies and I were at this concert. Good times.
Joe Jackson is a classically trained musician and I always loved how he could do one album and then do something completely different for the next album and it would always always be perfect!
I am particularly fond of jumpin jive because I like that music.
Big bands, swing, torch songs - so many people miss out because they only listen to the music from their particular generation nothing old nothing new.
Joe Jackson even went on to do an Ellington album - exquisite music so many people missed out on.
I hope Joe Jackson keeps making music forever it's always original and it's always incredible!
I watch this AT LEAST 6 times a week. It never gets old. Absolutely fantastic. JJ and his band are so talented
JJ has always been one of my top favs artists. So damned underrated . I’ve seen and bought most of his albums. I’ll always be a fan. ❤️
YAY!!!!!!! One of my very fave albums of Joe's. Saw him in concert in '81 and I had the t shirt - Black with pink letters. Crestfallen when my boy friend put it near our camping fire and iburned it . I LOVE YOU JOE!!!! My fave musician of all time.
As big a fan as I've always been of Joe's, I can never figure out how this album & tour succeeded. He wasn't taking care of his voice yet then & it showed, bands based on good looks existed, this had no possibility of a guitar solo & this never got air play.
I'm not just shrugging, it's more of a slack-jawed disbelief. This music was not in demand, yet here it all is.
This is fantastic. Have loved this album for years, great to see some video. Joe is perfect for fronting a tight ass band like this. And for some context, this was a serious left turn artistically at the time. NO ONE was doing swing in the early 80's (a few years before Brian Setzer and others brought it back).
Still listening to JJ almost weekly on my playlists.
They are all great musicians--- but Graham Maby is just off the scale! Brilliant bass playing!
genius always in a suit
excellent album by excellent JJ
This is amazing!!! Thanks for sharing
An extremely smart and brave record very well executed
I had this on vinyl when it came out. I have good taste.😏
I saw Joe Jackson in 1980 at Great Adventure in NJ he played two shows that night thanks to a season pass way before they added a separate admission. He was as great I’ve probably seen him at least 75 times I love his stuff all of it Thanks
Oh man.. I had this LP when it came out , still have it , I was 14.. this is the first time I hear this again. Moving . Great stuff.
Wow, I can still remember watching this on Night Flight. Been looking for it for years. Thank you!
You're welcome!
J'adore Jumpin' Jive et tout de joe et ces musicos
I know
My buddy and me ( is that proper grammar) saw JJ twice and I’d swear I saw this tour on the pier in NY
Regardless just timeless music played by a fantastic musician
SOOOOO glad I found this
WOW Joe Jackson the master
First time I was in Saudi Arabia in a cassette store where 90% cassettes were bootleg and there was a whole section of Joe Jackson and I really like the drive album and this is before day night came out incredible. I’ve seen him three times lives and never disappointed and my second favorite band is Steely Dan and he fucking covers wish I could see him again one more time before I die I would make it an even six times❤️🎼❤️🎼
WTF? This has been uploaded for a year and only has 180 likes? What is the world coming to ...
I'm 64 years old, I've been listening to JJ since 1984 and I know 4 people who know who JJ is, sad
Thank you so much for posting this!!
Thank you for finding this and posting. Love it. What a great performance.
BEING A JACKSON FANATIC SINCE AGE 5 SEEING HIM
ON BANDSTAND AND GETTING......"IM THE MAN " LP.
ITS ABOUT FUCKING TIME !!!!
I BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS SINCE 1989-1991 🙄🙄🙄🙄
This is great! Just for kicks I wish Graham Maby had been on an upright bass, and I wish "How Long Must I Wait for You" had that drum solo that's on the album, when I play that album I can't wait for that drum solo lol.
Never saw him in concert.
Wow! Stomping at the Savoy not on my copy!
Joe Jackson 1981-07-24 - New Florentine Garden, Hollywood, CA
I saw him a few night later at the now defunct Perkins Palace in Pasadena, CA. My first JJ concert!
Can’t really be 43 years ago? Crazy. Timeless too.
We are as far from this video as they were from the original songs. 😮
my gosh man
thanks thanks
alltime fave joe album
sounds sweet
man
memories
Absolutely amazing. I still have the LP and play it regularly. Together with big world my two favourite albums from him. very nice to see him perform it live. Thanks for sharing
Great show. Thank's for uploading this. Joe is such a great musician.✌
Thanks a bunch.
Early 80's white kids certainly did not have much in the dance moves department. Subsequent swing revivals would have some truly skilled couples dominating the floor at a show like this.
Awesome.
27.1.24 just bought Jumpin jive on original vinyl
Any ideas bout who´s played with Joe on that tour?
Joe Jackson (voc)
Graham Maby (b)
Nick Weldon (p)
Larry Tolfree (dr)
Dave Bitelli (tenor sax, clarinet)
Raul Oliviera (tp)
Pete Thomas (alto sax)
@@garytube1955 Thanks! Also, can't resist saying, Graham Maby is a monster, a truly masterful musician. An inspiration to me, as a semi-professional bass player. The rest of the band ain't too shabby either ;-)
@@JohnWilliamsFromBluff Maby is amazing yes
Pete Thomas is a terrific saxist and stalwart of the UK scene@@garytube1955
Did they dub recorded tracks into this?
No, it's musicianship....tight band, great material
👍🇦🇷
Does anyone know where this was filmed?
The opening seconds of the video show an exterior shot of a building with the name "Florentine Gardens". An L.A nightclub.
Its funny he changed his mind about concept music videos when steppin out got big
He was forced to by the record company…so he ran with it
