In the late 70's early 80's I saw Joe live in London many times. His gigs were of the highest production quality and the atmosphere always electric. This is real creative pop/rock music. Thanks for uploading! So many memories of crazy times.
What impresses me about his live performances is the.... musicality... of his presence. He's not just a singer, not just a piano player, not just a saxophonist, he's a band leader. He'd have been just as successful if he'd been born 50 years earlier.
I'm a huge Joe Jackson fan. He's a musical genius. And Graham Maby is a criminally underrated bassist. He's in the same league as Entwistle, Geddy, Squire and the rest.
Graham seems to be Joe's right-hand man like Daryl Sturmer was to Phil Collins. graham has been the one (mostly) constant in Joe's many, many bands. the only two tours I can think of off the top of my head Graham wasn't on was the 'Big World' Tour in 1986 (which I saw at radio City Music Hall) and the Duke Ellington tour. I'm sure there's others, but those are the two I can think of.
At least the last few shows I've been to have been better. People actually watching the show instead of recording the entire thing, even though they're never going to watch it again.
@@stephanemignot100 Yeah, I know that feeling. I've seen some amazing shows that I might have missed... Talking Heads, Clash, Ramones, Specials, David Gilmour, etc. I'm sorry I didn't catch Jackson on this tour. He played close to where I live and I know people who went. Should've gone.
Joe Jackson & Elvis Costello and the Attractions. Born in the late 50's, growing up with the beatles, the kinks and the who and some kind of black soul, stepping out in the punk rock explosion, but to experienced in playing their instruments, they were not trendy enough, to accept the boring playbacks in some british saturday evening shows. It's all about live performance s. And those are killers!!! Best backing bands ever, emotions, soul and entertainment, caught in some of the best stage experiences ever. God bless the U. K...
I'm a bit younger but yeah, Elvis Costello and Joe Jackson were great alternatives to the hard rock. When the were current I liked them, didn't love them, but I think they're both great and underappreciated artists.
does anybody know about a concert Joe Jackson did in Perth Western Australia, possibly July 31st, he had trouble performing as there were idiots in the audience. They kept whistling and others laughed...I'd like a recording of this concert if possible
My favorite teenager band. Joe Jackson was the alternative to traditional hard rock that I usually listened to. The band was unique in their sound and styles as a band touching onto many . Even Jazz.
So glad this popped up in my feed. This was excellent. I didn't realize he had so many albums after "Body and Soul. I kind of checked out around that time. There are about 15 more records that he made. I'm going down that rabbit hole next. Thanks Mig Music for reminding me how high level musician/artist Joe really truly is. 🔥
He is by far the most versatile, limitless and unpredictable British musician of all time, probably along with Paul McCartney! From punk to classical he has the less boring discography of any artist I can think of.
I met him on the street once in NYC. 1982 OR 1983 . I stopped him and asked for his autograph . He kinda gave me a weird look and the autograph says "Joe Jackson...OK?" . I still have it.
I was at the Ritz one time. I forgot to see what what band it was. But anyway, Joe Jackson was in the audience and it was hardly anybody there and it was a girl taking a picture of him. He shoved that camera in her face. Nice guy !!!!!!!
Really enjoyed this. Buddy of mine, Greg Thompson shared Joe Jackson music with me in high school, graduated in 1980. Greg died a few years later (Fuck Cancer, RIP Greg). Have a few Joe Jackson songs on my phone and will probably get another one…maybe an album?
One of the things I admire about the music business in England is that they are open to more than what is the "happening" thing at the moment and can step out of the imagined idea of what a musician should look like. Joe Jackson was never going to be a poster boy, but here in Canada labels seem too interested in the "look" or what the current musical direction is, instead of focusing on signing brilliance. England has such influence because they sign brilliance like Bowie even though it might not seem like the "moment". And they allow Joe to do his thing. Okay, perhaps we'd rather hear the original "Is She Really Going Out With Him." But, this version blows my mind. So maybe I'd rather have them do BOTH versions; maybe the original at the end of the show! Or maybe three versions. WOW. What a talent.
Gosh the crowd are really digging it - absolutely marvellous - Joe Jackson was one of my favourite artists back in my student days - Great music stays with you forever....
Un Genio , pensando anche a tutto quello che verrà dopo Night And Day ... qui Tv Age è assolutamente travolgente! Gran concerto, grande Band e grande scaletta...!
Got introduced to Joe Jackson as a freshman in college in ‘81. Grew up on Zeppelin, Rush, Genesis, Stones so this was very different for me. He and his band are some of the most gifted around. Even today they hit it out of the park.
Une pépite 🎉 thank you MIG Music for adding this awesome live concert on TH-cam. Was lucky to attend multiple concerts of Joe in the late 80’s early 90’s. What a genius between pop, rock, jazz and so much inspiration.
remember this, I was in this time in Hamburg and watched this concert in TV. Joe Jackson live is great, after that I bought his record but prefere this live sound full of energy .Good memories
Outstanding casual concert discovery. Joe Jackson live? How bad can it be? I thought. Well it is not often you see a singer go trough three instruments on stage, and the marimba was a complete surprise. Had the LP I'm the Man in the collection back in the day.
That was an amazing concert. The Motown medley really demonstrated the depth and talent of his band. Even forty years later it's so good it gives me goosebumps.

Tony Levin is in his own league
Slow your your roll there...
What you said!!!!
I was there, fifteen years old,i will never forget this Concert...joe and his super Band at their best
You lucky dog! 😊
Watch it on tv, one of the best RP concerts.
AWESOME !!!!
Clapping hands instead of smartphones reaching in the air, concerts in the 80s were so much better than these days.
Musicians were much, much better

Same. Born '59. Add Graham Parker and the Rumour and you have the trifecta of new wave/post punk intelligent UK greats.
Same timeline!!!

Such a vocal range, stage presence, superb composition, brassy and bold, sassy, brilliant and raw!

I don't know any musicians more eclectic than Joe Jackson. He's so special. ♥
See kids--this is what they used to call musicians. JJ is criminally underrated and underexposed.
Joe Jackson, Hall & Oats, Steely Dan, Manhattan Transfer, Talking Heads some of the best performances I've seen live. Joe is right there.
Seen Joe at Red Rocks in Colorado, must have been late 80' great show. Growing up in Colorado was awesome, concerts all summer long.
