I read his book. He's now a fellow in the prestigious school he graduated from. The man is a true genius. Love these types of interviews. Probably my favorite contemporary artist through all the years and phases. ..
@@tarp11zAs a fan who knows how many “Joe Jacksons” there are and just how eclectic and ingenious he is, I still think that, in fairness, for those only familiar with the big hits from the first two records especially…Costello is a natural comparison. His output in that era wouldn’t even exist if he wasn’t writing those amazing songs within a framework that was really pioneered by guys like Costello. Jackson would admit the influence. “Radio” is an uncanny piece of Costello worship, really. That said, I’ll always prefer Joe! :)
Great to watch. Joe playing variations on his songs and Cat Deeley doing an interview and realising she is talking to somebody who is brighter than most she has professionally encountered. A great piece of tv
Adore this man Seen him twice .Took our 23 year old son and he was blown away .Looking forward to seeing him in Bath this year .This man is a musical genius
I have deeply loved Joe Jackson since I was seventeen. I related to his isolation, anger, and sense of feeling misunderstood. It was just a bonus that I had somehow plugged into who may well be the most creative, talented popular musician in the history of recorded music.
A genius! I am 10 years younger, I know him since his first album. Lost track after his third album, I think. He is coming to Norfolk, VA mid-June. Can't wait.
I love Joe Jackson and Cat Deeley 2 iconic British people one a former model turned journalist and a rock icon a beautiful interview I was 30 at the time
JJ, master of the "on second sight". What he said in reply why his love to these overall very different giants of music, it's all about putting so much inspiration into such tiny piece of music - what makes them pieces of art. When you catch a reproduction of a brilliant Paul Klee and you get the chance to see the original in a museum later on, first thing that strikes you is how small (in size) this original is - and if you hadn't already caught the inspiration you might just pass by without even noticing its greatness.
I love Joe Jackson and this was very informative about his life and taste. I didn't quite like the re-harmonization he chose to do in the verses of "it's different for" I don' think those open chords fit the melody. Regardless of that, this is why I love him, he always takes chances. He's a very sophisticated musician with an amazing vocabulary of jazz harmony, amazing energy and character. Underrated of course, I always talk about him with my friends to "convert" them to Joe Jackson

as far as I know, you can STILL speak out your opinion in germany, you can STILL "take a walk" without being imprisoned, you can STILL elect your government freely in germany (as I live there). 1500km to the east, you will be killed, raped, locked away, bombed, tortured and have no chance to live your life you´d like to live. It´s a slap in the face of every person in the ukraine, reading your bs comment.
If you mean the lock-downs, then go ____ yourself. Every Western nation has constitutions that make such things impossible unless You The People allow it. The place _isn't_ free or not free, the people in decision-making power *are **_people_* who need you to watch over them. If *you fail* to provide that oversight, then you are 100% responsible for how it ends up because _you_ allowed the others to make those decisions. You'd think Germany of all places would have figured this out by now. No "ism" runs things. Criminals seek power & you all act like mindless infants who aren't allowed to challenge them. You *_are_* & always have been. You just don't want that responsibility & it shows when you use distancing language like "the place has become." No it hasn't. People have made decisions. Grow tf up.
100% YES..he has fkd up his face for good..I don;t understand why he would do that since he almost never appears on television and doesn;t do silly talk shows or things liek Saturday Night Live or American Idol...maybe he didnt check out the surgeon first.

Same here. A cure for gravity. He’s the Man !
I couldn't agree more. When he gets compared to anyone (spotlight on Elvis Costello), I get highly annoyed.
Albums are all brilliant, shame we don't get to see him appear here live (which he does best),anymore 😢

Love Joe's music, the drummer dave Houghton brought me up from eight years old so I have lots of memories of touring with them back in the 80s ❤
Fantastic! Joe Jackson always strikes a chord deep within.
His rendition of Girl was first class
Always stood out did Joe for me. Different authentic genius and real. I'm glad to find this.

Such a great inspiration to me. Beautiful music. Thanks Joe.
I've always been a big fan of Joe Jackson nd think Car Deeley is a terrific interviewer/host.

I really like his music..very unique and original style..💎💯❤️❤️
This is a very good interview and the "live set" are really great!! Joe is the best
awesome interview. This is a man that does not have to use the word genuine or authentic. That is who he is.
Just absolutely LOVE his rendition of Girl. Very respectful and reverent to the boys of Liverpool!

His autobiography, which he concludes when he got his first record deal,is a masterpiece.

Uhh…what happens exactly at 9:40? For Joe’s sake I hope that was just an odd audio glitch in the upload! Jesus!

Check his face that’s tighter than 2 coats of paint
Strummer was the son of a high-ranking civil servant. His mother was the daughter of a Scottish crofter.
When he started talking about how free Germany was (not so much now, I guess) he was really singing my song. Wonder how he feels about it now.

it just dawned on me that he's quite a statuesque man... or is she just crowching into the chair that makes her look comparatively small?
He’s six feet four.
@@janackova whoa seriously
This set is horrible too.. joe can rise above anything. “too tough to fall in love with you.” Ok. ❤️
not the best produced audio I've heard, the piano swallows the vocals.
This is what happens when a non musician, tv personality interviews a musician. Cringe.
