Really don't understand why the interface on my S3900-48T6S-R looks so different. Setting the management on this was a PITA. Turns out with the latest firmware after you configure the vlan1 Ip address use the command "write" instead of what the guide says (copy running-config file). Guess these are the minor hiccups when you aren't spending Aruba/HP money on a 48 port switch.
I like the switch (I have the -R model), but I searched their website and cannot find a firmware download page. The manuals also have no information on obtaining firmware updates. In this video, there's a file ready to use on a USB stick. But as viewers, we need to know where to get the updated firmware file.
Yeah they have the most confusing setup. Go to support, then technical documents. Drill down from you model on the top and right go to software. (www.fs.com/products_support.html?category_type=0)
Thanks for the video! It was a pain to update from v156 to v175, but other than this "quirk", I quite enjoy using the S3900-24T4S, but I would like more SFPs hehe. For others: The zip archive for v164 (and others except for v171+) has an extra 5 bytes at the beginning or somewhere else.. so 7zip/Winzip cannot unzip it properly. Use unix/linux to unzip.. Update to v164.. then apply the v164 to v175 upgrade file like shown in the video. and then finally, upload v175 (note that this is no longer a .bin file, but a .bix file) and boot v175! Hoping this helps someone tearing their hairs out!
Wow, no kidding about the price! US$330 is about as cheap as it gets for something with that functionality. I've been recommending FS to people for years for SFP/SFP+ modules, but never actually looked at their routers. My mistake.
The S3900-24T4S-R model (I assume the -R means routing) currently sells for $329, and supports L3 routing. You can even configure it to run RIP, OSPF, and BGP.
Thank you. I rarely if every use CLI so I would probably be the wrong guy for that but I did see a couple of videos out there that covered the basics. Thanks for the comment and best of luck to you.
I did nor remove the top to measure the inside but there is very little heat radiating from the sides with the switch only half filled. Hope that helps.
after the upgrade to 1.71, my FS.com 3900-24T4S is now almost everything in CHINISE ;-/ very hard to navigate...😞 even whit your video. but I tried to re-Flash 171 but still Chinese ;-D (hope the support is in English 😀)

Yeah the interface is a bit confusing

Very nice review. I have had good luck with FS products over the years.
Thanks Kevin. Appreciate the feedback and hop all is well.
Thanks for uploading this!
No problem! Thanks for the feedback.

Excellent and thanks for sharing the tip!
It seems they are seriuos pieces of gear. GUI is nice too
Definitely enterprise-capable and great to learn networking with. Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks for the feedback. It is a really good switch.
@@MikeFaucher OOPS! I meant switch, not router. Duh.
Just found out your video, this S3900 seems very good, do you know if it does any inter-vlan routing considered it said L2+/L3 lite?
I idid not test any layer 3 functions but I would say no it does not.
@@MikeFaucher Ah I see, thanks for the reply, appreciate it.
@@KokLiangLim thanks and good luck

Good review! I found little information about FS equipment. I would have liked to see a little analysis on the CLI of this switcher.

The cli is a little wonky but is very Cisco like. It took me a little time to familiarize myself after spending years working on Pro Curve switches..
What is the NOISE level? That is something I can't find any info about?
This switch is fanless and does not produce any noise.
@@MikeFaucher MANYYYYYYYYYYYYYY Thanks..
@@rippleyaliens8275 My pleasure. Good luck.
Good job mike!
Thank you for the feedback.
Being fanless, how hot does this unit get?
I did nor remove the top to measure the inside but there is very little heat radiating from the sides with the switch only half filled. Hope that helps.
❤👍🙏

Strange. They do have pretty good support when I used it. Good luck.
