10-Gigabit is expensive, especially when you need more than just a couple ports. Enter the Mikrotik CRS317-1G-16S+ switch... a 16-Port 10-Gigabit switch to run at the top of your server rack, enabling lightning fast transfers between all of your servers.
But first... What am I drinking???
From Grey Sail Brewing, courtesy of longtime fan of the channel John, it's the Captain's Daughter DDH IPA. This Mosaic single hopped beer bucks the trend of super-citrus IPAs, toning it down with a very pleasant floral bouquet. Definitely worth checking out.

Mikrotik has had a line of 10GbE switches out for a few years now. I swapped out an old Quanta LB6M (with it's LOUD!!! fans) for the CRS 317 a little over 2 years ago - even ordering it from Latvia directly since that's where I got the cheapest price, even adding in shipping. They work great for home or small business.

You can get 10G for much much cheaper, and far faster, than that:
      forums.servethehome.com/index.php?threads/brocade-icx-series-cheap-powerful-10gbe-40gbe-switching.21107/
      Brocade ICX6610-24P
      16x SFP+ 10G (8x via 2x rear QSFP+ 40G breakout cables, which are just $10 each as well)
      24x PoE+
      2x QSFP+ (40G)
$100-$150 on eBay (48P are also in the $100-$180 range)
And the Brocade's are all full L3 hardware line-rate ASIC switches, unlike the Mikrotik which offloads ACL and many other things to the slow CPU.

Strictly speaking, You can run it as a pure switch with RouterOS too. The SwitchOS is easier to configure VLANs, but You can do it on both of them. And with RouterOS you get all its features - even using it as a pure switch.

I've had hardware L3 routing running on my 317 for almost the past year. Mikrotik added hardware routing to all of their CRS3xx switches in RouterOS 7.1beta6. When you bring these switches up to that level, they will run circles around ANYTHING in their class.

    WARNING: DO NOT BUY THIS!
I bought one of these. It lasted 18 months before one of the power supplies blew up, and over voltaged the logic board, meaning the redundant power supply was useless. Even though it was less than 2 years old and purchased from an authorized Mikrotik reseller, they refused to RMA it. Digging deeper, you'll find Mikrotik doesn't do warranties. They expect their resellers to do them.
Googling around finds that a lot of Mikrotik devices that are AC powered fail at an above average rate. Based on Mikrotik not being able to design AC power supplies, and their lack of warranty, I will never buy another Mikrotik product again. So disappointing, since up until this incident, I loved how much network device I could get for the $$. I guess you get what you pay for.

Forewarning to anybody looking at this switch: swOS is garbage. I installed one of these in a building and had all sorts of headaches with Wireless Access points not being able to communicate with each other with their config replication. Also if you create LAGGs there is no way to assign a VLAN to the LAGG directly. You have to assign the VLANs to all of the ports in the LAGG. If you miss one your traffic will get VERY weird.
For a home lab: It's fine. If you're thinking about using it in any business setting, avoid it like the plague unless you like weird, unexplained issues like UniFi or Aruba APs weirdly showing disconnected states or SNMP issues. Maybe they fixed it in later firmware releases, but when I was running one on 1.12 I wanted to smash it with a rock after a week of troubleshooting.

That's odd about the missing power cords as mine came with it. Maybe depending on who you order it from since they do make them for both US and International markets. Got mine from Amazon which pointed me to a reseller in Latvia. Ironically not too far from MikroTik's HQ. :)

    forums.servethehome.com/index.php?threads/brocade-icx-series-cheap-powerful-10gbe-40gbe-switching.21107/
    Brocade ICX6610-24P
    16x SFP+ 10G (8x via 2x rear QSFP+ 40G breakout cables, which are just $10 each as well)
    24x PoE+
    2x QSFP+ (40G)
$100-$150 on eBay (48P version in roughly the same price range, $120-$180)
And it's a full L3 hardware line-rate switch, unlike the Mikrotik which offloads ACL and many other things to the slow CPU.

Considering I have an entire column of my organized cables pegboard filled with that power cable, I'd actually be glad they didn't include them with the switch (NOTE: I still think it's complete BS that phone manufacturers are now not including USB C charge adapters).

    •  3 ปีที่แล้ว

The reason maybe BS to you. But it's something little we can to fight e-waste. Most people have collected enough adapters and cables over the years. I can imagine is little sh*tty if you just started with your first phone or other stuff. But you will see after a few years how many cables and stuff you have collected. Have you found it still to be effectively silent over the last two months? I've seen some reviews indicating it gets quite loud, but I think that might be specifically when more than 1 or 2 1000BaseT transceivers are installed. I'm considering this or a CRS309 for a 10Gbps backbone for my home/home office LAN, so I'd hopefully be using DAC for everything.
