  • In an evening address made the day after the Jan. 6 attack, President Donald Trump would not say “the election is over” and insisted it be removed from his speech, according to video outtakes the Jan. 6 committee showed during the July 21 hearing.
In the video, Trump reads from a teleprompter, “but this election is now over. Congress has certified the results” before stopping and saying he did not want to say “the election’s over.”
“I don't want to say the election's over. I just want to say Congress has certified the results without saying the election's over,” Trump said in the video.
The hearing focused on what President Donald Trump was doing during the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol in an effort to interrupt the certification of Joe Biden’s presidential victory.
In the year since its creation, the committee has conducted more than 1,000 interviews, seeking critical information and documents from people witness to, or involved in, the violence that day.
