      The motion looks problematic for relative motion in VR. There is an open source solution using a Vive Tracker that would work with the Index, but it's mostly been tweaked for 4 post SFX-100 type systems. NLR has motion software for the NLRv3, but everyone I know with one doesn't use that since your neck tends to bobble head around maintaining a close enough to center position that it seems realistic be bounced around just a bit.

      @@markkovalcson7243 did u ever try input vr software? If I understand your problem is that you keep moving in vr behind the wheel which is unrealistic. This app solves the problem.

      As I said in my post I only have an NLRv3 and I haven't found the need for any VR compensation yet. To repeat I have no problem in VR, but I also don't own the Traction Plus. The reason I raised the issue is that the NLR provided software for compensation which tries to anticipate where your head will be has not proven to work that well. I don't know one person with an NLRv3 that actually uses it.
      The VR correction software that I've seen appears very primitive and I have yet to near from a Vive / Index user that it works well. Most tried and gave up on it. Once again I have no personal experience with it. I would just like to know some people who have had success with it.

    Y'know what I find most impressive the 320W PSU inside.... the V3 motion platform is also about 300W max... on average it's way less than that. For power efficiency... unlike a lot of 6dof systems, you don't need a dedicated power circuit just for the motion part of your rig. A gaming PC running full tilt with a couple monitors, wheel and accessories.. you could comfortably stay under the 2400W load rating of a 240V 10A circuit breaker.
    And don't think that doesn't become a factor in an old house with a single power outlet thats shared between 3 bedrooms....

    • @markkovalcson7243
      @markkovalcson7243 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Agreed! Plus while the DIY stuff is still evolving, and still has a lot left to be cleaned up. My NLRv3 has been completely reliable and the software supports every title I care about. Not only that but the software is super easy to tweak to feel right. This being an extension of that same software would help keep things simple. I'm also very happy with how little power my NLRv3 sips from the wall and I don't want a 220 transformer etc. etc. for a DIY solution. I'm an electrical engineer and I still don't want to bother with a DIY motion solution at this time. Maybe some day, but not yet.

Obviously this would be fantastic for yaw and there not being any pitch, the seat would be needed, but the best world would of course be to have this Next Traction Plus Platform, on a platform that was then on the D-Box Gen 5 (6" when it finally comes out) :)

    Great review, you do an outstanding presentation. l paid close attention and was rewarded, so thank you! As a soon to be owner...
    In October 2019, I could not find this Traction Plus system in the United States. I searched overseas and they were out. I finally contacted Next Level Racing (in Australia) directly and they were back ordered for 2.5 months!!! They can't keep up with demand. So I purchased one in October and here it is January 2020, near the mid-January target they promised to ship a new unit (fingers crossed), and I'm so hyped that I searched and found your video. Your a professional, top quality video! I was glued throughout.
    As for complaints on price, oh please! Look at other motion platform options. They are still very costly. This one with Motion v3 included for around 10K, it is certainly a respectable and understandable price. I'm retired, so it wasn't an issue for me. It was a must have. Now, I hope I enjoy it as much as I think I will. Fingers crossed. However, this review certainly put any fears to rest on a quality built product.
    I saw that they have been addressing the VR head motion issue with their Next Level Racing Platform Manager software. It looks like they got it addressed. VR is the way to go for racing sim now a days, in my humble opinion. I can't race without it anymore. It is what spurs me to buy every next generation VR head set. I'm really looking forward to getting quite an experience with Traction Plus and Motion v3 supporting my VR racing craze.
    Thanks to your excellent video, it will go a lot easier and got kudos for well done and excellent quality review video. Keep up the great work!!!

    Wow! Blown away Barry! This certainly is some Next Level kit. Absolutely stunning piece of equipment and to be honest probably one of the most useful things I think you've reviewed on your channel!
    Really really impressed by what NLR have done here. I love the design and bullet proof build quality. This is right down my alley. I love it.
    Yes it's expensive as in it's priced out of range of the majority of SIM racers. However, I can't help but think that the amount of added immersiveness you get for just $6k makes the price seem pretty paltry in comparison to motion solutions from other vendors.
    Next Level Racing... I salute you.

  • @프레디khjfreddy
    @프레디khjfreddy 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    That’s an incredible piece of equipment and loved you’re review as always. However I have a question... I can see when the car turns right, the platform moves left and the other way around. But aren’t these movements giving opposite forces? For example, if you turn right, you’re body is supposed to feel forces toward the left side. But since the platform is moving left, I think you’ll be forced towards the right which is the opposite way... Please correct me if I’m wrong!

    • @angryginger791
      @angryginger791 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This platform is not simulating cornering acceleration forces, but instead providing the feeling of the car twisting and sliding in reference to the direction of travel. It you wanted to feel G forces, you would want a setup that tilts you so that gravity pulls you in the direction of the acceleration. In this case, the V3 seat mover does that.

    • @publiovirgilio2238
      @publiovirgilio2238 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If car turns left you don’t feel the force to the right: your body tends to go ahead because of your inertia, but the force that sticks you to the car has to be to your left, as the corner. The platform moving to the right (in a left corner) simulates your inertia, not the force that the car makes to you.

      @ErikMiddeldorp 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am thinking the same thing. I've tried posting a question about it at xsimulator.net but haven't got a response yet. I had a look at some 6 dof sims to see what they do but it's inconsistent and in some cases they're not moving sideways at all. There's this one th-cam.com/video/CqwAL-LI5IM/w-d-xo.html where it's moving in a similar direction to this. There's this one th-cam.com/video/PA826T_qS-g/w-d-xo.html that shows it moving in the opposite direction quite strongly. I haven't ever tried a motion sim before but am planning to build one similar to this th-cam.com/video/fT61BFrRL-M/w-d-xo.html but the idea behind that one is the sway and roll work together to simulate cornering g-force. If that's not the best use of sway, then I might have to change my plans of what I build.

    Cool stuff but not for a normal consumer, obviously. This is commercial grade stuff for the big boys, 6 grand is a fair price for the relatively low volume but personally I was thinking more in terms of 3 grand so that it becomes at least a little accessible for the richer enthusiast among the sim racing community.
    If you consider a device of 6 grand already you probably spend 2 grand on a DD with wheel, 1.5 grand on a H-pattern shifter, etc etc. Point is... is it really worth it or are you better of racing in real life at that point? At these price points I really do start to wonder about that.

    • @02semiata

      @@02semiata Indeed I haven't. I didn't get further than sim racing on live national television.
      I hear what you and SomeName are saying though.
      Besides, I doubt a bloke like me of 33 years old or an even older gentlemen like Barry would be able to get sponsoring. I mean would you rather sponsor an upcoming young star or some old dude. So indeed it all has to come out of your own pocket.
      Personally I was thinking about cheap racing though. Like some banger races that you might be able to do with parts of the wrecking yard. So in essence simple full contact racing with minimal costs.

    • @02semiata
      @02semiata 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LogiForce86 Okay let me know how that works out for you LOL. I am sure the gas and entry fee for the banger race is free ha. The car is not the expensive part of racing. Its the cost of everything else. Such as hotel, food,gas,tires,entry fee. I could spend 10k and build out a nice rig that will last for years and years. Or 5k for a season of cheap racing. A season is what 5-10 events ? So for 10k you can sim race for a very long time or do around 20 real races.

    • @LogiForce86
      @LogiForce86 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@02semiata Okay, I give... I give! Haha.
      Yeah, we have enough banger races in the region but indeed. It is all the little bits I casually ignored that are expensive. Especially gas here in the Netherlands, since we are one of if not THE most expensive country in the world for that.
      Add to that a tyre changer and balancer that would come in handy, some place to even store the car because it isn't registered for and thus not allowed to be parked on the public road.
      Eh... the more I start to think about the costs of the event and the cost of keeping the car somewhere. Plus the tools for maintenance. The more other stuff pops to mind and... yup, a 10k rig is easily more manageable if your wife is forgiving enough. Xd

    I have to admit that this is a seriously glorious product which has been developed by NLR. 👌 However at the price point asked of us within the SIM Racing community to acquire this long awaited component, NLR may not have completely thought through their target audience's existing investments. 🤔
    NLR appears to not have considered those of us who have the financial means to make this acquisition likely already have vested considerably in other component and rig configurations. (80/20 etc.) 🤔 From my perspective as a 80/20 (SIMLAB P1) rig owner who also has a "NLRv3 Motion Platform" integrated/modded within and weighing over 400lbs + after installation of an OSW DD wheel, botton boxes, etc. 🤔 Unfortunately, I can't reasonably make the "Traction+" purchase, as much as I really want too 🥺, when the weight rating is less than 600lbs. 😨
    SIM Racers much like myself would likely fork over the requested $5999.00 USD without hesitation if the weight rating was closer to 800lbs ..!!! 👌😎👍 At the moment I'm very disappointed where the -600lbs rating is concerned. However, I'm hopeful someone at 👍"Next Level Racing"👍is actually reading these comments and considers the rest of us within the paying SIM Racing community seeking to make use of their "Traction+" component. 🤔 Maybe consider another higher rated version...??? 🤔👍👌 Thanks.

      That would be less realistic. Eg when your car rolls, the ground doesn’t come with it. When you have oversteer, your car (and your view) rotate relative to the world. Maybe the exception would be sway bc here the platform is using sway to simulate the feeling of g which in real life is not actually a movement. But it certainly would be a challenge to get all real life movements to still be relative to the view.

      I miss the heave that the D-Box provides. Not so much the roll because the sway element is so good with the TP Platform. Stage 4 RTL always felt a bit latent and under powered to me. And of course no sway element available. I always thought the use of an SCN6 actuator instead of the included SCN5 in the RTL element would have made it a better experience. But that's just me.

    It's made me wonder whether you could build a business model renting out sim rigs to people who would better afford a monthly "pay as you play" type service, rather than a large up front premium or taking out a loan...I think the main worry for people is "what if I spend $4k then get bored of it in 6 months".

      I dont know. If you want something quality I think the price point is great. There's nothing in this category thats commercial grade and you don't need to do a ton of research just to get something that works. Think how much actual racing costs. Then think how many cars are raced. Thats a ton of money being spent and if you can gain an advantage with this its definitely worth the money to people who blow fortune just to play racecar driver or team owner. I'm pretty impressed myself.

      Yes, seat movers have to have a way to move and that's where the flex is. I ran this without the V3 and a buck seat mounted to the GT Track frame. Better experience when you take out the flex for sure. Working on a way to get something else mounted to the TP. Stayed tuned...

      I know this is an old comment, but I have the V3, and while it's really cool, the most important feedback you need as a sim racer is wheel slip and oversteer. The V3 adds a lot of immersion, especially with VR, but if you're looking to improve your driving performance I think the traction plus would be a better place to start. Unfortunately with the traction plus at twice the cost the V3 might be the more affordable starter kit.

      Parker Ault thank for the answer. My final decision was to bought the whole system at once. So now i have traction, V3 and transcuders system on it. The effort here is very cool. Probably over-engineered if i'm honest. I feel the price is too high tho; as you definitely want to match it to a motion rig as well. Which reminds me of the Prosimu rig, which uses a motion motor put sideways to achieve the same functionality. Seems they have a better idea in qual/price point. However I tried my best to be as accurate as possible, and after putting the GT track over the traction plus, I got all the holes aligned perfectly and the screws fit in easily. . Forever when I measured the distance between the two bars after installing the GT track, it was around 1170mm. Is that normal?

      @@VMVarga-yf6eg As we have discussed, the world also doesn't move up and down either. :) Nice to see you at the SRG.
      To add. A true motion simulator would have monitors independent of the cockpit. With the monitors only displaying the environment. Your cockpit would be the car, including guages. With a 4 way D Box suspension. This would be the correct way to do a racing simulatior.
      The problem is displaying the dash. If you run a bumper cam, with a monitor mounted motion rig. The motion felt, compared to motion displayed would be very disorientating. The variable that makes it harder to make work correctly is the transposition of the dash and environment on the 2d plane. Having the world move on a moving platform adds motion on top of motion.
