I took your advice with simtools, bought a welder, motors, controllers etc and 'built' my 3 DOF rig. which is 2 DOF + traction loss l(similar to the DOF reality rigs). Learned a ton while doing so. I absolutely agree with the way you cover these products. And crack up when you say " oh, that's only 25,000 euros.. " yeah. not going to buy that one.. I ended up with the Next Level Racing Motion V3 due to it's small size. I just don't have the room for anything else.
    I enjoy that unit. It moves very quickly and is precise and tight. It works well and is more than enough for iracing or other racing games, and the only thing it's missing is the traction loss, which I can feel through my force feedback wheel so I don't "need" traction loss to be fast.
    By comparison - the DOF reality 3 dof setup I have also used, as a friend of mine has that rig.
    The difference between the 2:
    Traction loss on the DOF Reality is a big benefit. I'm usually doing track racing however and so there isn't a lot of traction loss and I don't get a ton of feedback from it. If you're doing rally racing or some other, like DIRT, the traction loss becomes more important. Where the DOF Reality setup was a dissapointment however was that it's "sloppy". The connections between the actuators and the structure itself have some slack or play in them. So when you make a big movement, at the end of that movement is kind of a bouncing or pendulum effect which breaks the immersive experience and doesn't go with the gameplay.
    Honestly.. you can't "go wrong" with DOF or the Next Level Racing one, IMO. They both add a lot to the experience.
    DOF Reality has a minus in that at the end of the movement you have additional movements which don't go along with the game / screen. Also the size was a minus for my game room's size.
    Next Level Racing has a minus in that it's missing traction loss.
    IMO connecting the motion to the wheel and pedal box has not been an issue as it wasn't even a consideration when I compared the 2 units.
    I should note that we were both using VR headsets and NOT a screen. If you're using a screen then moving the whole rig with the screen attached probably becomes more important.
    Which would i choose? I think IF i had the room, I would have the DOF Reality setup. If you don't have the room, Next Level Racing is a great option.

    DoF was my first choice but then I sent an email to customer support...
    All I can say, is that Im happy w my 2nd choice lol
    Edit: Also you forgot to explain that DoF seat mover has 3 options, the first one is for teens or women as it only supports max 150lbs, so you have to upgrade at least to M2 which is a bit more than $1.2K + shipping, but talking w the guys at DoF if you play more than 3 hrs or you are overweight (+220lbs) then is not going to work either you have to upgrade to the P models, which are industrial grade motors. We are talking about $1.5K for a seat mover or $2.8K for the 3 Axis seat.
    Still cheaper than some popular competitors hence my first choice.

    Am getting a Yaw VR Motion Sim I think. It may not LOOK great but it's fully collapsable and portable which is great for me because I don't have a great deal of room in my flat. Plus all of the motors and stuff is protected underneath which prevents my cat from getting stuck in the thing lol

    This is one of the best videos on this topic. I remember finding this video before I bought my DOF H2. 3 years have already flown by in one day and I decided to look for something better than DOF Reality. But so far there is nothing even close to comparable in price and quality. So, I plan to upgrade to H6. I recommend this company's products to everyone! Other simulators cost tens of thousands of dollars and often offer less. If you don't have money, take H2. If you have the money, take the H6.

    Have you actually tried a seat mover? You put them down so much, I feel you haven't tried one. The NLR V3 is very fast and immersive. Watch the reviews by Sim Pit and Inside Sim Racing as well, when you are only moving the seat and not the entire rig, you don't need massive amounts of travel.

    • @mcnappa828
      @mcnappa828 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      in my opinion he doesnt know what the NLR is trying to achieve. he says it just moves ya but around and not the pedals..lol..when you brake hard in a car the forces push you forward towards the pedals..the NLR v3 is simulating those forces . never when you hard brake in a vehicle does your pedals or anything else move with you. same as high G cornering. the seat mover simulates these forces. this FACT is lost on most people who think the whole rig should move. NLR v3 is expensive for what it is but commenting with no actual understanding of what forces it is recreating (namely G forces from cornering and braking) is just hilarious.

      I've never tried a "full motion" rig. My research exposed to me that speed is far more important than moving all components. Also, there is a lot of truth in the explanation that seat movers are actually better st creating immersion because the driver is inherently adjusting for small positional changes as has already been stated here. I believe this is vital to the overall experience. I have a custom wooden rig using SimX DIY kit. Minimal investment and proven equipment.

    I've never commented on a TH-cam video before. After viewing this video, I couldn't avoid writing a response any longer. This is easily the worst video I have ever seen. These comparisons are made without the benefit of any empirical info. Dissing one product after another with a second or two of time devoted to a web page is hardly a comparison. You quickly base judgements strictly on price, without any knowledge of any benefits offered by a particular product. This video is simply one," it's not as good as the one I have" after another. There's a lot of this kind of lax "reporting" on TH-cam but this is the worst example I have come across.
    BTW, I am a buyer for a motion rig and I will likely buy a P3 DOF. It's not the result you arrive at, it's the way you go about it.

You can ask the community too, which is full of people willing to help. Some of which build these things from scratch and have strong knowledge of how to get the most out of your money, whether you're buying an off-the-shelf commercial sim or building one from the ground up.

      I’m sorry but do you have empirical evidence that this is the worst video you’ve ever seen?
      Seriously though I know what you are saying. This is just one guy talking about why he decided to buy a certain model over others. He can’t afford to buy all the models and try them out and you always need to take these videos with a grain of salt. I don’t even know if you will see this comment but did you end up buying a motion rig? Curious to see what people end up doing after researching all the options.

I sold it and bought a Trakracer Rig and put 3 x PT Actuators on it. One Front + two Rear. This makes it 3dof (roll pitch heave) the Heave is a fantastic addition and the actuators are very powerful, fast & precise. Thanks for the fantastic video. Just one minor correction regarding the Prosimu platform. They no longer use the Dyadic actuators for their 4-DOF platforms - these were the noisy actuators you showed in Jon's video. The new PRS actuators are much faster, stronger, and nearly silent - and also more expensive of course as you discovered on their website. I have a Prosimu T1000 myself, and I can vouch that that annoying squeaking sound of the cheaper Dyadic actuators is now a thing of past. I believe the DOF Reallity is the best value on the market for the lower end of motion simulators, while the Prosimu is the best value for the mid/high end of motion sims. They're certainly both fantastic simulators, and the DOF is nothing to sneeze at as it clearly punches well above its weight. You really can't go wrong with either one as far as I'm concerned. FASETECH actually did have 360 motion (In fact, it can do that almost endlessly before the cable stops it from going any further) and other things that were shown. However the original Prototype was more violent than the commercial one they made now. (Also the Prototype is that Racecube you wondered about. THAT thing is FASETECH, they just changed the name overtime)
    Go on their TH-cam page and watch how the prototype ran vs how they show it now. I think they nerfed it down to much, it's lost my interest because of that now.
    Now I don't know if DOF Reality with their DOF 6 is the same way or just throws you around more than with the DOF 3. I got interested in this platform now not just because of costs but the fact it looks like how FASETECH should have done it.

    Such a shame. Wanted the H6. Saved up enough after a few years. Went to their webpage to buy it with $4000 saved... its now, over $7400 before shipping... Guess it's unattainable now. Everything has gotten too expensive in just a few years. What a shame. I was dead set on them. My heart was broken when i recently went to buy it and to my surpirse.

    Cool video and good explanations. I have looking into buying a DOF reality sim but i can't decide whether to go for the P3 or P6. I am an enthusiastic SIM racer so that will be my main type of game. Do you think it would be worth going for the P6? Where does it come in to play when sim racing - i guess bumps feel more realistic along the straights? There doesn't seem to be a lot of reviews on the P6 models, most people seem to have the P3 version of the DOF sim.

    • @ScorieDivine
      @ScorieDivine 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      P3 + buttkicker would be WAY more realistic for racing games. Even when it comes to bumps. Not only that, but it would be WAY cheaper as well. So unless you're hardcore about flight sim, I would stick to P3 and use the extra cash for cool accessories (nice buttkicker connected to back, ass, pedals and wheel, or a mean OSW DD wheel instead of the accuforce, etc).

    • @anders7311
      @anders7311 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think you missed the point with Geko Systems GS-105. It's not relaxed, it's 40 pounds force feedback directly on your body, no jerky wiper motor but force as long as you brake as long as you corner. Much better IMO than any seat recliner/mover, and more compact too.

    Keep in mind 500k sims do not have motion - They DO HAVE Force feedback - 3 hifi projectors on a curved screen -Air bagged seat thst pushes on the waist to sim g forces - Screens dont move - Get the motion bug out at local Dave and Busters or whatever, but for daily training ? I think the huge investment would lose it's attraction after awhile - RS SEAT WITH BUTT KICKER , OR A 2 OR 3 dof and a quality VR - BOOM! - DONE!

I waited 3 years for somebody to make a cheap version then said fuck it, built my own 2dof, now a days I can buy a cheap 3dof and still build it myself further cutting costs. Moral of the story, don't wait around for people to do something do it yourself.
