E320 CDI Rough idle caused from Malfunctioning EGR.

  • EDIT: ALSO discovered swirl flap linkage came disconnected and was starving engine of air! that was the main cause!
    Here's a video covering that: • OM648 Swirl Flaps Fix ...
    Something is causing the EGR to open when the engine is warming up, which is causing the engine to misfire and stumble at idle.

    The ACTUAL fix for this misfiring issue was with the swirl flap valves linkage! the EGR causing misfiring was just a side effect of the increase in resistance of air flow into the engine caused from the swirl flaps being closed. Here's my video on that issue: th-cam.com/video/8lt4IjzSYNo/w-d-xo.html

    cant believe it. Removed several times to clean EGR. Replaced EGR valve. Get this. after watching this video, unplugged ERG. Drives perfect. Only thing is, Turbo doesnt respond when flooring it. So EGR unplugged. Will drive for 30 mins, 20 miles each day to see if it cleans up. then plug back in. Will put in some fule aditives too. Doing my complete head in, but will get there

    Hi I have taking EGR apart to clean. Great to see your channel have the plastic cover off. After put it back I have noticed EGR that it keep on moving and unstable idle rough. So for my luck thinking carbon is still on the shafts making it hard to move smoothly, didn't take it off again. I have used Hot Shot Secret sticking eliminator on the shafts by let soak over 3 time during in between drive. This may fix it for now when start up no more rough idle. The code for EGR stuck open has not come back for 2 weeks. I have smooth idle but due use oil and diesel additive from Hot Shot Secret for over a 6 month. My car is E320 cdi 2006 is close to 100,000 miles. Thank for your video details repair of E320 cdi it gave me clear idea how to repair my W211.

    Unplug the EGR and drive some miles on the highway to "clean" everything. Your engine will be like new.
    You can keep it Unplugged and u will get better mpg and power.

      I've had mine unplugged for 5 years as the solution to fix the car going into "limp home" mode randomly after scanning and getting the egr code. I tried installing a new egr that fixed the problem for about a week then back to limp mode.

  • @lw4mma

    Thanks for posting videos of this car. I have an 05 CDI (only 125k miles) and had issues with it going into limp mode/ CEL. I pulled the EGR valve and cleaned it out, but still had problems. I ordered a new one, and it ran great for about a week and back to same problems. I since put the orginal one back on and literally just unplugged the wire. CEL stays on but It runs great since with no limp mode and has for a couple thousand miles now. QUESTION: Is there any problem with just unplugging it as opposed to "doing an egr delete"? I'm in a no inspection state now, so I don't mind the CEL staying on. Subscribed!

    • @MBDieselFreak
      @MBDieselFreak  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is no problem leaving it unplugged since it's normally closed. The issue with your CEL though, have you scanned the car to see what the issue is?

    RESOLVED. Hi MBDieselFreak. The problem off rough idle come from the iat sensor which is located after the intercooler. I resolved mine E220 CDI by disconnecting first the iat sensor before replacing it.

      Jillian O'Connor you're having the same problem I'm describing in this video? check out my other videos on the CDI, I've done a stupid amount of research trying to track down what's been causing this issue, and fixed other little problems along the way. ended up being intake flap shutoff valves.

  • @sabinmari17

    Can you help? This sounds like mine///Here it is the quick story:
    I am not knoledgeable enought and sorry to call it misfire for a diesel.
    it is actually like a hiccup and it feels/sounds like an explosion. Thought it has something to do with the combustion. Dealer wanted to change 3 injectors for bad values but not specific codes quoting me at $2800 before tax.
    Other mechanics recommendations were injectors as well. Therefore I had my Indy changing some of the injectors today with no change.
    As short history car has 166k miles and this started at about 164k miles shortly after and around or at about the time of adding freezing additive for diesel fuel while a tank fill up which could be just coincidence.
    Egr code has been on and off rarely every now and then for the past year...about 35k miles.
    Lp fuel pump in tank replaced at about 145-150k miles. Shortly after at about 155k miles fuel filter changed.
    No start up problems, no smoke like when bad injectors. No hiccups for the first 5-10 min when cold. Then thy start randomly intensifying in frequency with the warmer the engine gets, but also sound/feel of the hiccups/explosion/detonation intensify itself as well. The fee is more like a skip of something like a big heavy chain from a gear to another.
    It also sounds/feel like a gun intermittently shooting one round then within a second 2-3 rounds then one more or 2 seconds another 2-3 rounds.
    It gets overrided when accelerating and the feel/sound of the hiccup/explosion/detonation reduces with higher RPM to the point of when reaching anything above 1500 it seems like it’s goes away or it is not there anymore.
    Could it be the High Pressure pump? Could it be my EGR stuck closed/opened influencing the intake with high temp exhaust gases recirculating since it starts to be more pronounced warming up and it is never there at cold start?
    Please let me know if anyone experienced anything similar or what else you guys may think of.

      you ever fixed this?

    • @sabinmari17
      @sabinmari17 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@cali_cal Mine is a blutec....they had an emissions recall for all blutec models. My biggest issue was random hiccups but not quiet the same as misfiring quickly one after the other. It was caused by a totally clogged dpf filter. Filter eventually failed prematurely because I delayed changing the addblue tank element heater and cleaning of the filter eventually wasn't active anymore. It got to the point the hiccups were more often and at the point filter was bad enough would shut down the turbo which was fine. The so called AEM emission recall fixed it for all the blutecs including mine...keep an eye on your dpf filter. otherwise yes egr have their own other problems. Keep oil changes on your calendar and do them accordingly

    The swirl flaps/port motor hack is covered in this video from Lagitstreetcars. I'm wondering if you can cheat the harness on the EGR the same way with a resistor.
