    Hi Nicole, I have this beaut, too!! Mine is also currently in bloom and she has two spikes right not! I'm in love with her fuzzy lip! 😍

      Nice! You'll probably get many more spikes over time!

    Wow that's a really nice one you got there! Big flowers too. Mine didn't flower yet. I always thought these species phals must be hard to grow needing really hot conditions but they seem to do fine at household temperatures. There are some vendors selling the aureum (yellow) form of this one in Europe at the moment, very tempting...🤩

      Sorry for the delay on responding! I missed a few comments! They do just fine at home, provided they get good moisture. The yellow one has to be GORGEOUS! Let me know if you end up ordering it :) I'd scoop it up if it were avaiable in the US too haha

    Hi Nicole!!! Gorgeous blooming🤩
    I have this one but it never bloomed yet. I bought it as a seedling 2 years ago and it was not doing well at all in bark but then I decided to transition all my Phals into water culture and she perked up immediately and started to grow nicely. She already has nice roots, four long leaves and another one starting but no spikes yet. Maybe later in the season or only next year. I did not realize how similar the flowers are to another one I have which is lueddemania x speciosa red. Same stripes, same fuzzy and it seems same colouration. Being a cross with speciosa red this last one should be darker pink. If it were not for the broader leaves than the hierogliphica I would suspect they were the same 😜

      So sorry I missed this, I never got a notification of this comment, I hope it blooms for you soon, they really like moisture. I think mine would struggle just in bark too. Luddemaniana and speciosa are nice, the cross has to be very beautiful! I can see them looking similar. Hope you're well :)

    Blooms make up for fragrance. I'll take that any time. Hope you show us your repot on this one. What is the humidity for it in your plant room now in winter?

    • @NicoleDeanna
      @NicoleDeanna  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure! I have so many repots to do, I'll get to this one in the next few weeks. The humidity right now is unfortunately 32% right now 👎 I need to turn the humidifier on, it gets it to 50-60%

    • @yomairal2477
      @yomairal2477 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NicoleDeanna Oh thank you. Then it is one I may try in myself since humidity regularly in house hoovers at 40% in winter without humidifier.

    Hi Nicole, great video, love those blooms. Great growing tips . I thought you grow it in semi hydro set up, since you got it into those self watering pots. One question, why do you top up your sphagnum with bark?

    • @NicoleDeanna
      @NicoleDeanna  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I grow the summer blooming phals in moss because I find leca too cooling for them in my environment. I put bark on top to avoid the green algae on top, it doesn't do anything other than look a little nicer. As for the pot, I use it as a mask because it's cheap, I'm not keeping water or using a wick to make it self watering, but I definitely do for my cattleyas with the same pots. Good eye, and thanks for watching!

  • @steveortez2613
    @steveortez2613 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Some thing I’ve noticed about leca is that When I prepared my fertilizer nutrients I would aim for a ph of 5.8 Ph and ppm of 125- a day or week later my ppm would go up about 150-175 my ph would go up to about 7.0 which tells me that as the water dehydration the ph & nutrients ppm goes up so what I started doing is adding ro water and adding ph down to reach a ph of 5.8 and draining the hi ph water and adding the 5.8 ph water and it would bring down the ppm back down to normal nutrient settings of 125 ppm

    • @NicoleDeanna
      @NicoleDeanna  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry I missed this comment! Your observation makes sense! Over time the nutrients build up in the leca and increases the ppm. Interesting about the pH going up, I will look at my ph and see if it changes. In theory it shouldn't because leca is inorganic and shouldn't affect the water you're putting in, but I'll do some testing.

    Can you please share the ratio of bark and moss that you use for this beautiful specie?

    • @NicoleDeanna
      @NicoleDeanna  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually used 100% moss and used bark only on the very top to avoid algae. Thanks so much for watching!

    The lack of fragrance is odd, we both bought from hauserman, and mine has a pretty strong scent.

      Nice!! I'm jealous! That's the only thing mine is missing. I hear it's very hit or miss.
