This really demonstrates the importance of sampling different methods. But I'd still have a hard time choosing between them, as all are beautiful in their own way. Makes me want to order some of the fiber!
I appreciate how 'un-fussy' you are about spinning. I'm fairly new to wheel spinning, so I have been devouring all of the TH-cam videos I can find. I had watched your wrist plying technique video a few weeks back. I was spinning some gorgeous CVM top that I was gifted, and worked really hard to keep my singles in the 35 wpi range so I could get a fine sport weight plied yarn. I was watching/listening to this video while I was plying, and I ended up with one bobbin having a LOT more singles on it. So serendipitous that I was watching you wrist ply as I was trying to figure out what to do with all of my extra singles! It ended up being an additional 50 yards once plied, so thank you for teaching!
Okay, so anytime I see someone "getting fussy" about spinning, I think about my Irish and Finnish ancestors that had no tools, and had to spin in the grease and made beautiful things. It really only takes tons of practice and a half decent handful of wool. People make it too hard so they can seem like experts, but that is intimidating.
Awesome video! 🙌 I love seeing the differences is the different techniques. I spun mine as a singles yarn and that gave a whole other visual effect! You are so right, there's a million ways to spin this! 💕 Thanks for a great video!
I bet it made a beautiful single. There are as many "right" ways as there are spinners, so as long as the spinner loves the yarn, it's "right" in my book!
Trish, I love your videos. You are my favorite crafty you tuber! Two reasons- you have a beautiful demeanor (smiling and sweet), and you take the time to answer questions! I’m always delighted to see when you post a new video. It helps too that you’re a neighbor, you’re from Michigan right? My daughter lives in Trenton, MI., I’m an Ohioan. I would have to say, I like your third swatch also, but not so much because of color achieved ,but because the yarn spun looks more consistent. I think the extra blending took away some of the thick parts of the fiber. Beautiful yarns! Thanks!
That is so nice, thank you! We are in Michigan, but I married a full blooded Buckeye. He is originally from the Columbus area. blending probably did help to even it out, because there are fibers of different lengths in this top. Thank you!
This is great. Especially showing the spinning from fold. There's other videos showing how to do it, but I like how you showed it side by side with other options to make the difference clear. Thanks!
Ok, are you my sister from another mother???? Love this. Since I am binging your videos, I left a comment 30 min ago about predicting what the spun yarn would look like. This answered exactly. Also tells me that I need to embrace sampling with my spinning, and knitting the swatches is so helpful. Wow,I just feel my mind blown. Why has no one else shown this so clearly? You are genius, and we think a lot alike. Wish I had your experience, but with you channel, I can vicariously look over your shoulder. Ok, back to fringe twisting and your next video!
That's so nice, thank you! Sometimes I find it really hard to find the right words to describe how my brain processes stuff because it's not always with words (hope that makes sense) I'm glad it's helping you!
I can see the difference between the three, but I'm used to playing with blended tops. Maybe next time line up the three mini skeins and then the three swatches...might make it clearer for newer spinners. I'm with you...like the blending board one best so I think a single pass through the drum carder would be my choice. Hope you liked working with the baby camel!😸
I have footage that showed all three, but I really thought it was so much, visually that it confused the eye a little bit. It's always hard deciding, so I just try to do what seems best at the time 💜
All three look great, thank you for showing how to get different effects. As a new spinner I'm always so excited to learn new techniques. I have been teaching myself to spin from watching you, and I appreciate you taking the time to make everything so accessible. Love that you know what month it is, I'm impressed if I know what day it is!
Wow, that is so exciting that you're teaching yourself to spin. That's the route I took too. I used TH-cam and got tips from a few friends in my area that were spinners.
Thank you for showing the different methods that can be used to spin this fiber. I can't wait to give some of these methods a try with some of my other fibers as well!
There are so many ways! I just know sometimes people look at these blended tops and don't like the color contrasts, so it's nice to get some ideas on how to make them into something you might love!
Thanks so much for taking the time to show is the different ways to spin the fiber and how that changes the effects of the yarn. For me I liked it best coming off the blending board. 🐑🤩🤪😍
I love how Luther would look up at you every time you stopped petting him 🐶❤️. That was really interesting Trish! I never would have known you could get such different results just from spinning differently. I have so much to learn! I just signed up for the monthly Paradise Fiber box, I hope I get that same color, I love it!
Oh, yeah, he is not shy about reminding me that I forgot to keep moving my petting hand 😂😂. That's exciting! It's a fun surprise every month and a great way to try new things that I might not buy myself if I were just browsing in a shop.
I hated the white with black nubs part of the roving so I took it all out of the roving before I spun mine. I felt like that part just made the roving look dirty. I made a very pretty pumpkin yarn so I naturally knitted a pumpkin with mine. Lol
Thanks so much Trish, for an excellent informative and inspiring tutorial/video. You made everything so clear (and fun) and I feel so inspired to get some blended top and have a go. So great to see three completely different ways too... Your spinning is fabulous and I loved how you got the same weight for each sample - am in awe!! I need to stop reading and watching videos and get practicing 😂🙏
Haha, as far as the weights, they were close enough for government work. The one that was blended was a bit loftier though, but that makes a lot of sense. I hope you got to spin after you watched!
Thank you once again for taking so much time to share helpful visuals for folks who spin! There was a lot of time devoted to this, it is very appreciated. Very relaxing especially with your choice of music background. Calming yet inspirational!
Honestly I usually can't tell much of a difference when I spin from the fold either. I think I like the one off the blending board. Thanks for doing the sampling. Saved me some time doing the same thing with mine!
I expected to see more difference! It kind of depends on the top for me, sometimes I can really tell, but not always! I think in person it was a little more obvious to my eye. I'm glad I saved you some time and some fiber!
Thanks for sharing. I got some blended top from my husband for Christmas and didn’t know what to do with it. After blending it, and adding sparkles, I think it will make a cool hat or mittens.
Adding sparkles is always an effective method for me too 😂😂. I'll look forward to see it on Instagram! And, you will also be getting a thank you note, but thank you SO MUCH for the soap!!
I'm going to just run it through my drum carder to speed up the blending. Maybe you know somebody that would let you run it through really fast if you don't have one (yet) 😂😂
Thank you for this! I had a braid of blended top leftover from a sweater spin that I was avoiding spinning because the sweater yarn ended up so heavy and dense. It never occurred to me to spin from the fold for a fluffier yarn and better color separation. I watched the video this afternoon and tonight I’m spinning that neglected braid.
I really like all three but I would probably choose my spinning method on what I plan to use it for and whether I want a more heathered or mosaic look.
I rarely know what I"m going to use the yarn for, but that is definitely a factor! If I don't know, then I just make yarn and let it tell me what it's going to become! All ways of deciding have their merits, so if it works for you, that's all that matters!
You didn’t ask which is my fave, thank goodness because I haven’t a clue😄 That was really interesting. You are looking très Jolie in this video and Luther wants to be in the vid with his mama😍 Thank you Trish, watched this on a plane flying home, amazing, right? 🙏💕
Thank you so much for doing this! I’ve only had time to spin a super small amount of this month’s box, and now I think I’ll put the rest through the blending board because I love how your blended sample turned out. They all looked great, but I’m loving the heathered look! Thanks again for sharing!
Thank yow so much for doing this video. It helps a newbie like me know how to use different techniques to make my yarn come out differently. I really appreciate it. And now, I really can’t wait to spin it. ☺️
Thank you for this video, I've been wondering what the best method is. I really like the results you got with all 3 methods, but it was very informative to see the differences in them 😊
You are so right I call bs on the always knowing how it will turn out too hahahaha, I'm not a girl that likes these tops I tend to turn them into rolags but that's why I don't buy them. They all turned it gorgeous 😍
Hi Trish, I am knew to all of this. I enjoyed your video. You made it look so easy. Can you tell me the make and model of your spinner. I'm eager to learn. Thank you.
Thanks, that seems really fun, I'm just getting into learning how to do it all! Do you mind me asking what you film with? For video and sound? I'd like to make a video for something else and I'm just wondering what people use... Yours is really clear!
This was so cool !! From the fold was my favorite. I’m really enjoying your content❤️ brightens my day. Also I wondered if you ever used drop spindles? What’s your opinion on them?
Aw, thank you. I am so glad to hear that it brightens your day. I can spin on a drop spindle, but I never learned how to ply. I went back to a wheel pretty fast. I think they are great! It's kind of like hand sewing versus machine sewing. Everybody has their own way that they like, and that's all that really matters 💜💜
Trish!! I have a question maybe you can answer, actually two questions 🧐 Can I use my hand carders to blend fiber? (I don’t have a blending board yet) and what can I blend with merino roving to make it better/more durable? Thank you!
You can use hand cards to blend. I don't have a video, but I will link someone else's here. th-cam.com/video/uUMd_m60wqQ/w-d-xo.html It's fairly short, but it does show her blending that way. There's lots of stuff you could add to make it stronger, but better is kind of more specific to what you want to use it for. Mohair will make it stronger and more durable. So will nylon. What do you want to use it for?
Fiber Love Diary thank you! I’m not sure yet, probably will weave something with it. Most likely scarves/ wraps or added to blankets. If it turns out really nice then I might knit a sweater. I generally spin more fine, semi worsted weight (3 or 4 on the knitting yarn weights)
This really demonstrates the importance of sampling different methods. But I'd still have a hard time choosing between them, as all are beautiful in their own way. Makes me want to order some of the fiber!
I hope you do go get some! It is lovely! The camel makes it so soft.
I appreciate how 'un-fussy' you are about spinning. I'm fairly new to wheel spinning, so I have been devouring all of the TH-cam videos I can find. I love spinning in the fold. One of my favorite method.
I bet you are better at it than I am!
This is great. Especially showing the spinning from fold. There's other videos showing how to do it, but I like how you showed it side by side with other options to make the difference clear. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!

Love that sample spun from the fold with the pops of pink!
Someone else used the word mosaic, and I can see how it fits. I bet the pops of pink are your favorite!
I can see the difference between the three, but I'm used to playing with blended tops. @Zane Rayden No one gives a damn, troll!
@Elian Zyaire And no one gives a damn either, troll!
Beautiful colors, reminds me of Monet's painting of "Sunset in Venice".
I can see how it would remind you of that painting!
The colors in all of them are lovely but from the fold is my favorite!
I love the spun from the fold one best

You make it look so easy and relaxing 😌. Love the last one.
It wasn't relaxing when I was learning, but it is now 😂😂
Thanks so much for taking the time to show is the different ways to spin the fiber and how that changes the effects of the yarn. For me I liked it best coming off the blending board. 🐑🤩🤪😍
Glad it was helpful!
Your video was so helpful! I'm a new spinner trying to figure out how to blend fibers and I had no idea there were so many methods! Thank you!
Oh this is only the tip of the iceberg
Great video. I really liked from the fold and the extra blended one 😍
Thanks for watching! It's fun to see the differences.

I learned so much from this - thanks. I'd never thought about using a blending board for "reblending" blended fibre!
I hated the white with black nubs part of the roving so I took it all out of the roving before I spun mine. I felt like that part just made the roving look dirty. I made a very pretty pumpkin yarn so I naturally knitted a pumpkin with mine. Lol
This is a great video showing the difference in fiber prep .....
Glad you enjoyed it
Love the little pooper dog
I like the blended one the best. #3.
Thanks so much Trish, for an excellent informative and inspiring tutorial/video. You made everything so clear (and fun) and I feel so inspired to get some blended top and have a go. Love your electric spinning wheel, you make it look so easy.
It is really nice for plying, and for spinning out in the world. It all fits in a backpack.
Wow, I've never seen spinning from the fold before - that's really cool!
Thanks for the video. I love seeing different techniques.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I have loved using this top! I blended it with some white alpaca and spun it thick and thin and LOVE IT. and Yes Go Beaker!
That was a good video. I liked the blended yarn the best, too.
Thanks for watching! I hope it helped.
Love your channel, and you mad skills!
I appreciate that! Thank you so much!
That fibre spins up so pretty! I love all 3.
Thank you! 😊
Don’t know how to do this but looks like fun
Honestly I usually can't tell much of a difference when I spin from the fold either. I think I like the one off the blending board. Thanks for doing the sampling. Saved me some time doing the same thing with mine!

You are welcome. Enjoy.
The blended one is wonderful, but I don’t think I have the patience to blend it all. They gave us a TON this month!🥰
I'm going to just run it through my drum carder to speed up the blending. Maybe you know somebody that would let you run it through really fast if you don't have one (yet) 😂😂
I'm late to the party but this video is amazing. I'm new to spinning and there's so much helpful information here! I also love this combed top. ❤
Hi Trish, Thanks for another informative video!
Thanks for watching!
I hope it helps! I really look at it like a puzzle to figure out how to make things into what I want. Hopefully it will keep my brain from aging 😂
I love your colors
I really like all three but I would probably choose my spinning method on what I plan to use it for and whether I want a more heathered or mosaic look.

This was so interesting! Thanks for another great video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
So pretty! I also prefer the more blended heather. Thanks for sharing your experiments
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for showing some different techniques! Loved the fold one the best!
Thanks so much! 😊
Hi gorgeous Luther!! 🤩
Really shows the difference when you do knitted swatches, I think I might have to start doing that.
He says hi! I don't sample as often as I really should either, but it doesn't take as much time as I think it does!
You didn’t ask which is my fave, thank goodness because I haven’t a clue😄 That was really interesting. You are looking très Jolie in this video and Luther wants to be in the vid with his mama😍 Thank you Trish, watched this on a plane flying home, amazing, right? 🙏💕
Really enjoyed this video. Very helpful ❤ Thanks!!
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Love these colors....so ready for fall.
Leandra💕
Trish yet another SUPER helpful video. Still trying to figure out how to spin all these clouds I got.
You just spin them a pinch at a time 😂😂
Fiber Love Diary 🤣
I love the swatch from the blending board. Thank you for the demonstration!!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing! I love seeing the swatches as well, it really brings it all together from a (mostly) newbie perspective.
I'm so glad!
Thanks, Trish. This was good information.
You are so welcome!
Thank you so much for doing this! I’ve only had time to spin a super small amount of this month’s box, and now I think I’ll put the rest through the blending board because I love how your blended sample turned out. They all looked great, but I’m loving the heathered look! Thanks again for sharing!
I'm glad it helped you!
Thanks for the demo! I liked the blended one the best. 💕
Thanks for watching!
Hmmm! Hard to choose which one I like the best. I’m going to go with the one spun from the blending board. I really like all of them though.
Good choices!
The colors are beautiful I have some blends to spin and enjoyed the lesson and comparison
Awesome! Thank you!
Wow! This was amazingly helpful. I'm a newbie spinner and seeing all these techniques side by side was wonderful.
Thank you so much for your videos!
Thank yow so much for doing this video. It helps a newbie like me know how to use different techniques to make my yarn come out differently. I really appreciate it. And now, I really can’t wait to spin it. ☺️
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome demo Trish! Makes me want to buy that blend right now and start sampling!!
I love how it turned out with the blending board! Thank you for sharing swatches!
This was really neat. Thank you for the video. I am loving the fold one. But I don't really know how to do it.... Time to do some learning I guess
Just takes practice! You can do it if I can.
Great video!
Thanks!
Thank you for this video, I've been wondering what the best method is. I really like the results you got with all 3 methods, but it was very informative to see the differences in them 😊
I hope it helped! As long as you are getting yarn you like, that's your best method, right?
You are so right I call bs on the always knowing how it will turn out too hahahaha, I'm not a girl that likes these tops I tend to turn them into rolags but that's why I don't buy them. They all turned it gorgeous 😍
I want a wolley winder but there so dam expensive hahahahaha
I think we agree on a lot of things we call BS on 🤣🤣
@@FiberLoveDiary hahaha that we do if only I lived round the corner from you we could out the world to rights
@@sadiesspincraft6319 that would be too much fun.
Interesting, thank you for the comparison
I don't remember if I've commented on this video yet. But, I'm definitely in it to win it!
Lol. 💖🤣💖Love your puppies! Fun videos!
Brilliant video - thanks so much!
Hi Trish, I am knew to all of this. I enjoyed your video. You made it look so easy. Can you tell me the make and model of your spinner. I'm eager to learn. Thank you.

What patience you have
Five kids will do that. Either you get a lot of patience or you turn into a crazy person. I did both.
I still love that fiber LOL
I do like the look of the blended but I dislike the extra work, lol. I usually do from the end, some blending without the extra step.
As long as you're happy with the result, then you are doing it right!
I think I like the folded one the best however it’s really hard to pick. They all look amazing! 😍
The fiber is really pretty!
Oh my gosh! Thank you for this!! What size tpi blending board do you recommend starting out?!! BTW I love the blending board one the best!
I'm not even sure what TPI mine is. It's an Ashford! I'm pretty sure they have them at PF.
What kind of E-spinner do you have there?!!
What is that wheel you have?
Camel is so stinking soft!!!!!!
It is! One of our sons works at the zoo, do you think I could convince him to sneak in and pluck fiber from the camels?
❤❤❤love
