  • In this colorful, textured project, I'm making blending board roving using a diz and then spinning up a fluffy core spun yarn with mohair locks. It sounds like a lot going on in this yarn, but I'll show you step by step how I did this fun spinning project so you can follow along and make your own fluffy hand pulled roving too!

    Ooo nice springy weaved cloth would be fun to see especially with all the little twisty locks waving hello. It reminds me of the crocus flowers popping up so early though the snow.

    A fine linen yarn would probably work really well for core spinning, even a fairly smooth linen yarn has a bit of texture, and linen is nice and strong.

    I personally would use yarn like this for a fun elf/fae hairstyle. It reminds me of stories I heard growing up of faerie locks. Essentially children were told if they didn’t brush their hair and take care of it the faeries would come and tangle it up worse and tie odd bits into their hair lol

    I love the board and really enjoyed the vid on how you made it. If I may make a suggestion; on the back side of the board add some silicone caulking - it smells bad at first so take outside or somewhere to air out while drying-. I have use this on many household DIY and other fixer-upper items to keep them from sliding around, even used on a refurbished seat cover :) All you do is put small "dots" of the silicone or a thin line and then smooth out, let dry, now it's non slip !! My other fave method is to adhere a piece of shelf liner- the squishy non-adhesive type you use for glasses.

    • @JillianEve
      @JillianEve  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great ideas!!!! I need to try the silicone! 💜

    What is core spinning please? I think I understand after watching your video. Perhaps a teeny explanation at the time would help newbies? Also I loved the idea of a postbox in which you store all the odds left over from other yarns to add into a brand new yarn you make via the blending board! Everything has a use! No waste!
    When you made your own blending board (brilliant), you didnt use a Diz the first time in your video. Is a Diz essential therefore? Why use one at all? Do you have to buy one? Thank you. Your videos are filmed really well...no talking about politics or the cold you have!!!! Btw loved the story about New Salem back in time. I was entranced....I see where spinning and story-telling crossed paths Hers(his)torically and led to 'fairy tales'! Its the perfect addition to spinning in a cosy space, doing what you love and chatting. I love listening to my vinyl collection....which provides a set rhythm to help me spin. 💞

  • @lgassin
    @lgassin 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Oh man, that totally looks like candy! Beautiful! I've wondered about using KnitPick's Palette (sp?) yarn as a core. It's kind of grabby, but as sold, the plies are spun kind of loosely. Maybe running it through a spin once before actually doing the core spun, like you did with the crochet cotton?

    • @JillianEve
      @JillianEve  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm wondering if it would do best un-spun or over spun to start with. 🤔💜🧶 Need to experiment!

  • @esmecat
    @esmecat 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    this is beautiful! i haven't gotten my courage up to try core spinning yet... but i've been wanting to ever since watching you do some during vlogmas.
    i was wondering... when you asked what we would use a yarn like that for, my first thought was weaving. then you said you like to weave with them... and the second thought was wondering... is there any chance you would ever do a show & tell, as it were, of past projects so we could see how some of these more fanciful yarns work up in things like weaving and knitting?
    and when you weave with yarns like this... what do you like to weave it into? just wall hangings, or such?

    • @JillianEve
      @JillianEve  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That would be fun to show and tell! 💜🧶😄
