As a old FF7 player i tried recently some nice mods. HD backrounds and ninostyle chibi characters with shadows and for me the game looks amazing and has the same great feel. It's better than ever.
I'm currently playing OG FF7 right now on my series X. And the music, the characters, and atmosphere are something truly special in this game. I'm playing it for the first time too, never really got into Final Fantasy until some time last year. Since then, I've beaten FF1-3 pixel remaster and I'm close to beating FF4 PR. Afterwards I'll play FF5 and 6. Then after I finish 7 I plan on playing 8-10. I'm also playing through FF13 as well, along with Dissidia and FF1 on my PSP. I have lost all control and went headfirst into this series lmao. Oh yeah I'm playing FF7 rebirth too when I have time.
Your comment is a bliss. You are one the proofs that when we say that the old FFs had a lot more passion and craftsmenship than before, its not only nostalgia talking. Its and objective thing. They had such an aura.
@@SquallSZ Shit, sorry mate! Didn't see this comment until now. Well, since I own a Series X, PS5, Nintendo Switch, PS2, GameCube, PSP, and 3DS; I have many options when it comes to gaming. I definitely try to get a little farther in each one, so I'll rotate every few nights. After work I might play OG7 for 5 hours before bed, or grind for ribbons on the Moon in FF4. Something along those lines. If I play any of my handhelds, I'll do so while I'm watching a streamer playing games lol. Actually, I don't mind FF13 despite its shortcomings. I think this game has some of the most beautiful presentation, when it comes to cutscenes and overall character development, it's truly remarkable. That said, the maps are quite linear unfortunately. However, the synergy or paradigm system is unique. Albeit poorly implemented but still kind of neat. If only I could swap my characters on the fly like FF7 Remake or Rebirth, it would alleviate many of the combat issues in 13. I just made it to the open world segment of chapter 11 in FF13, and many of those monsters are messing me up pretty bad, maybe I should avoid them and just do the ceith stone trials or whatever lol.
I'm playing FFX right now for the first time, also my first Final Fantasy. Man what a great game (especially after modding back the original models of Yuna and Titus into the HD remaster, even as a first time Player those faces make a night and day difference)
VII Remake doesn't really have "Filler". A LOT of content was actually cut from the OG FFVII game or wasn't even able to start AT ALL. They were supposed to delve deeper into President Shinra and HIM causing the massive explosion, it wans't Avalanche, it was supposed to be President Shinra in the OG too. Left over scene of this hint is in the basement of 7th Heaven when you talk to Jessie, she's trying to figure out why the bomb explosion was so big, it was only supposed to destroy the PUMP, not the entire building. She says she is trying to figure out the calculations when you talk to her FIRST (You miss it completely if you don't) Vincent and Yuffie were supposed to have drastically deeper stories, but time constraints made them missable characters. Avalanche was supposed to have a deeper backstory as well. Same with Hojo and all these other major characters who should have had a lot more story. DOn't forget, back UP TO the PS1 / PS2 days, the instruction manual mattered ALOT. I think the FFVII OG instruction manual was nearly 70 pages long.
im glad you got to play the original. playing older games without fast forward (esp jprg's) are killer for me. i play on emulators so it helps cut down a couple hours of grinding and random encounters. i def over leveled in my run of ff7 though.
Honestly I’m so used to us diehard fans replaying FF7, that I never thought to consider how stuff like materia balance could be off putting to new players. It’s like an unwritten rule that enemy skill’s white wind and big guard are complete priority to get and equip. However getting them requires very specific circumstances, and doesn’t exact happen naturally for new players, so this kind of video is really interesting!
"It’s like an unwritten rule that enemy skill’s white wind and big guard are complete priority to get and equip." - is this and internet thing? I've been playing the game since release and I know it really well. I appreciate the utility of those enemy skills but I've never felt the need to seek them out asap.
It is really good. The twist with Cloud's real identity in the Neibelheim flashback is to me the best storytelling I've ever seen in a game. I hope they don't screw it up in the 3rd remake.
Here in Europe, this was honestly the first - and frankly, one of the very few - JRPGs that were really popular. Even if you were mostly in the PC bubble like me back then (most countries here have a strong PC gaming tradition in general) you absolutely would've heard about this game, and likely at least tried it out. We got way fewer JRPGs than the US in general back then, not to mention Japan which was 'flooded' with those kinds of games, unsurprisingly. So, no wonder FF 7 was so successful. I still like a lot of its themes/brisk pace. It's not my favourite FF (that would be 9, 5 and 6), but it's definitely the most important one from the Western perspective.
I still prefer the climax of the original vs rebirth. I'm willing to give the developers the benefit to see where they go with part 3. But ending it on the original scene and aftermath would have felt more emotional. just my opinion.
Really interesting to see a perspective on a player that played the remakes first. I played all the ffs as I was a kid. Hundreds of hours on 7,8,9,10. Never played the remakes. I watched channels play through them but I did not personally play. It’s a wild game. In the remake and rebirth there’s like 3 timelines. The OG timeline The remake was timeline And the doomed timeline where Zack was Edit: enemy skill is OP you should do a bigger playthrough and find some secrets. You’d be surprised. There’s a lot of hidden lore in ff7 that comes to light in the remake and rebirth. You can see nods to it in the OG
I’m still a fan of Zelda. I bet you didn’t play the Final Fantasy games that were on Nintendo originally because that’s where it started. I still have the original FF seven discs was hoping PS5 would backwards compatible the games of Final Fantasy that I’ve got
Glad to see a new player of the OG see how they messed up Aerith’s moment, THE moment they had to get right. I don’t understand why they messed with it, they could have had both the original beautiful heart breaking scenes and then moved onto the multiverse stuff, they could have done both. But as it is it’s not even as emotionally impactful as Jessie’s death, I was so disappointed they didn’t give one of the biggest moments in gaming history the respect it deserves, and no matter what they do in part 3, it won’t have the impact of doing it when they should have.
I have a simple principle in gaming, if I played a gaming masterpiece back then, and will not play it's remake or remaster what so ever, BUT! If I never played both the Original or Remake, I'll choose the Remake if it has at least Average Rating, if not, then Original it is. For me, New Final Fantasy 7 are for New Generation, and I'm glad they can experience and enjoy it in their Own Era of Technology and Gaming. Peace ✌️
Remake isn't a remake though. It's a sequel set in the same timeline, with multiverse shenanigans. Their is a narrative reliance on the events from the original game (as in things don't make sense in Remake if you've no knowledge of the events of the original).

RPG = numbers and planning. Remakes are not RPG anymore.
This is a videogame, the story is secondary, it is a not a movie.

Rebirth is literally an action game
FF7 is piss easy, RPGs stopped being about planning by the SNES generation
In Remake the story is tertiary. The action is secondary. Moving slowly through bland levels is primary.
