One of the things I love when my church teaches directly from the Bible, explaining what’s going on it naturally ties into today. The Bible is an amazing tool that lends itself to modern day teachings and lessons. There is no reason to “modernize” the word. It’s LIVING- it’s timeless- it’s beautiful

"The true Messengers are never adamant about themselves. They never claim special gifts and powers for themselves. Even their own genuine appointment, if they have to talk about it, they will do so rather reluctantly. They are not dynamic and strong. They do not project their personality in this way. They are not indiscreet. They are not loud and brash.
There are so many people claiming to be spiritual emissaries that when the real one appears, they go unnoticed because they are quiet, because they are not loud and brash and indiscreet. They may not gain much attention, for the attention is all being gathered by those who beat their own drum and who proclaim themselves proudly, with great conviction."

I prayed for a home church for over a year. I went to a friend's wedding and the Pastor performing the ceremony was different. As soon as I could, I ran to meet him. I sat in his church the next Sunday and found my home church. He teaches verse by verse. Its made a huge difference in my understanding of the Bible. I absolutely love how he tells people from the pulpit " if you came here to find your best life, leave. " " There are many churches down the road that do that, but I preach the Word of God!" I'm so thankful for that answered prayer. This is a great series.

“If you’ve came to live your best life…” is the type of thing Joel O’Steen would, that’s nearly the exact title of his book “live your best life now.” You can “live a GOOD, SATISFYING, LOVING life now” but you can’t “live your BEST life now” because that’s saying the world can be GREAT, but it can’t cuz humans are sinful and the world won’t change until Jesus comes back.

We have many "Pastors" giving Ted Talks rather than preaching The Word. I'm deeply sadden by the pedestal many have been put on, all the while they're too prideful to admit their wrongdoings. From what I've seen, many churches are being pimped by these people who we have claimed to be ordained and called by God and it sickens men like myself who would rather have a man of character on the pulpit, rather than a man of gifting. Thank you Allen for your commitment to push Gods timeless truth to us, really, your work will be looked upon years to come for those who are hungry for objective wisdom rather than subjective "tickling of the ears."

Anointing vs annoying 🤣 I was not expecting that brother Allen😂 I just wish more pastors would take their Bibles and just do a verse by verse/chapter by chapter study with the congregation. I think there is also immense pressure for pastors to always deliver “a mighty word” to their congregation. Yes that does and can happen, but to expect that for every Sunday…

Especially that first one...that is a huge pet peeve for me and I catch a lot of flack from my friends who come from the churches with pastors who hoop and holler. I just want to be spoken to and told the Word of God. Nothing more nothing less.. I also feel this way about the choir. I don't want to feel like I came to see a performance, but that we are all here to worship the true living God.

We had an associate pastor at my church, who had a very specific way of structuring his sermons. He would pick a passage, such as the one from this video, and break it down into three salient points. He bolstered them with other Scripture and always gave examples of how it applied to each of us. I never failed to feel blessed by his sermons. He is now head pastor at another church in our denomination as head pastor, I hope they know how blessed they are!

I left my previous church for a few reasons, some of which you listed in this video. I asked the pastor before I decided to leave, why don't we go book by book in the bible and study each scripture? He said to me that I would not find that in our area. That is my desire. In the mean time I have learned of your channel as well as Cory Minor, Treasure Christ which taught me of Voddie Bauchaum and John Macarthur and there are a few more in the TH-cam Community that have helped me in understanding scripture and studying. Also, Dr. Bruce Logan of Bruce Logan Ministries, here in Warren, Ohio. He is not a pastor but an awesome Bible Teacher and has a very in depth study of the Book of Daniel here on TH-cam.

I would like to see more of the gifts of the Spirit in use in churches. There are little to no prophecy, word of knowledge, healings, miracles etc in the church today. I believe this is because people don't pray to God for the gifts. 1 Corinthians 14:1 says: "Pursue love and desire spiritual gifts...". In the early churches the gifts were very much in use.

I have been enduring a great deal in my life, and have been looking for other believers in Christ, who AREN’T flashy, who are humble and who genuinely loves the Lord and who genuinely want to share the gospel. Within the first three minutes of watching this video, especially at the @2:15 mark, I have been saying this for so long. I do not understand how those who profess to have the convictions, those profess to be true believer of Christ, can on a platform, parade themselves, and adorn themselves in fancy clothing, jewelry, and makeup and fancy words and languages, it just doesn’t make sense…it’s very distracting to those who are seeking a genuine relationship with Christ. And the Bible does talk about this but it’s often overlook because of society.

Thank you Pastor! Well here’s my list:
    1. I would like for pastors to understand and teach others what worship is, what it looks like, and who it belongs to, so that their members will stop worshiping the pastor out of ignorance.
    2. I would like for pastors to stop using other people as topics for their sermons to bash them and point out their flaws.
    3. When a prophecy is fulfilled and the beneficiary gives a testimony, I would like to see the pastors stop saying “I told you that would happen, you see, I’m a prophet!“
    4. I would like to see pastors teach, or bring someone who can teach, on all five parts of the five fold ministry so that everyone can grow in the area God has called them to. I’m sick of seeing pastors only focus on the one they think is most important, or the one they know the most about, and neglect the others.
    5. I would like to see pastors stop dictating who their members can date, how much money the members should give to offerings and special projects, how many church services the members must attend in a single week, and other decisions that should be guided but not dictated by leaders.
    6. I would like to see pastors stop being callous with people that they think rank lower than them in anyway, and showing fake humility to people that they think an opportunity for advancement can come from.
    7. I would like to stop seeing pastors try to wield their spiritual gifts like a magic lamp that they control, forgetting that God is not their genie in a bottle. I would like to stop seeing those pastors use their spiritual gifts at their own will, in an attempt to impress newcomers in hopes that they will join the church.

Your teaching is so right. I remember going to church and it seemed like the preacher was stepping on my toes. Like , how he knew that. Lol. Those were the days when preacher's cared about their flock, and wanted to make sure we were going to Heaven. I also remember when someone needed help with a bill the church was there to help them. NOW they buy all these name brand clothes, cars, jewelry and don't think about the people in their church. It's really sad how to devil is using the name of the LORD as a scam in the church . There is a special place for them. So sad.

    Pastor Parr,
This video confirms the experience I had when a visiting church attended my church. This church was doing all the things that you stated in your video. When I approached my Pastor about what the visiting Pastor was doing since it did not sit well with me, he told exactly what you described in your video about how we should conduct ourselves as ministers of God's Word. Some members were attempting to explain the visiting pastor's behavior by telling me that I should only focus on the things that they did well not the wrong things, but I politely informed them that God focused on everything, whether it was right or wrong. So why should we conduct ourselves differently?

Absolutely! I'm experiencing this in the church I'm currently attending. I've been there about a year, and the pastor has never made any effort to even say hello. I've had one conversation with him the entire time I've been there, and that was at a gathering for new people where he HAD to talk to everyone. I don't know where he hides after the service, but I never see him. I feel like I don't have a pastor. I was looking for a new church and was hoping this would be my new home. But I'm still praying about a new church home. Once I figure out where God wants me, I'll be on my way.

I have seen several of the points you mentioned. My biggest issue with the idea of "modern church" is something that has kind of gone out of style (thankfully) and that is the seeker-sensitive movement. I was a part of a seeker-sensitive church as a teen in the 90s. The leadership was very much at peace with people's sin, but were very threatened by mature Christians. They had a lot of fun activities going for the whole family. They were very laid-back. God was cool. Everyone dressed cool. They had all the latest Christian music in their service (this was the era of 7/11 songs--songs with 7 words that were sung eleven times!). They did skits before each sermon, that were usually parodies of TV shows or something people would recognize and be amused by (like a famous scene from The Brady Bunch or something like that). The sermons were always okay, but ended on a positive note, with no challenge to get right with God. The church wasn't technically unbiblical (their statementof beliefs was entirely based in scripture), but focused a little too much on the positive, and run more on emotions than truth. They would send people out to do evangelism in the community, but their brand of evangelism was inviting people to church and giving people flyers with the church's logo and the pastor's picture. When my parents actually really witnessed to people they met while they did this "evangelism" the pastor was very uncomfortable about it. They also had certain people they wanted in theur church. Suburban families with a two-story house, two cars, 2.5 kids, etc. People who didnt fit this (particularly the poor or even the lower-middle class) were made to feel unwelcome. The summer I was 14, I was helping at Vacation Bible School. The teacher allowed me to teach the lesson one day, and I presented the gospel to a group of second graders. Several wanted to receive Christ. The pastor and leadership should have rejoiced about this, but instead, they rebuked me, and my family was kicked out of that church. My evangelism wasn't part of their seeker-friendly way. Mentioning sin was too negative. That church no longer exists. That pastor eventually apologized to my parents. Seeker-sensitive isn't as much of a thing anymore. I think enough people eventually realized how unbiblical it is to be seeker-sensitive, since no one seeks out Christ without the Holy Spirit, and when they do, only the real gospel, from the Bible, will satisfy. Being pleasant and having fun activities won't cut it. After that very humiliating experience, my family went to the opposite extreme and joined a very traditional fundamental Baptist church, where we only sang hymns and used the King James Bible, and people dressed up for services. I felt safer there, since they were the extreme opposite of where we had been hurt. It felt a lot more reverent. It was a good place for us to heal. To this day, more traditional is my preference, but I've balanced out a little. A church that is truly seeking Christ can be modern or traditional in style.

Ask the Catholic church how they are doing trying to retain parishioners? They keep closing churches in my area, and we had a lot of Catholics in this area! Because Catholicism as its usually practiced feels old and worn out to many people, especially young people. We aren't saying that you are dumb. I would not say that he teaches right from the bible though. I am not trying to be rude or argumentative, so please don't take it that way. It is true that he will always have a verse or two picked out, but he doesn't exegete passages. He has a topic that he wants to talk about, and he will just grab random verses completely out of context and fit them to what his message is. This is essentially leaning on his own wisdom and understanding instead of appropriately exegeting the Word of God.

I attend Assemblies of God churches, and they have always had either an extensive page on their beliefs or they link directly to the Main Assemblies of God page. it is an evangelical church, so something to consider if you are interested?

Thank you so much for this video! You hit many nails on the head with this. It's so hard to find a church that has these things in order these days.

Hey Allen how are you doing brother my name is Gabriel Johnson. My question for you is why is it that when Pastors preach they sound like they're having an asthma attack?

Great video as always, Brother Parr. Another pet peeve I'd like to add is the busyness I often see in the modern church. While I'm sure a lot of it is well-intentioned -- and some are able to manage their time just fine -- I see such a focus on activities (mens group, womens group, Bible studies, focus groups, kids groups, breakfasts, marriage conferences) and very little focus on rest. There's such an emphasis on joining as many things as you can, and I see people either burned out or focusing little time on other things. I'm glad there's a focus on being involved in the church, but I implore people to ask themselves... when's the last time I called my family? Do I have any errands or favors I've put off? Did I say I was going to do something last week/six months ago/two years ago/etc. and never have? People are watching, Christian or not, and I think we need to balance things and not be afraid to say no if another activity is taking away from other godly things we need to do. And consider even the most seemingly trivial things... If you told someone a long time ago you'd help them with something, even as miniscule as helping them wash their car, and never have -- all the while joining focus group after group -- what type of witness does that convey?
