- Learn the basics of Digital painting in under 5 minutes! This is a beginner tutorial video in which I will show you how to paint in Photoshop using the basic tools and techniques. You'll learn the brush tool, the eraser tool, custom brushes, hue, saturation and Brightness slider, colour swatches, eye dropper tool and blending. I use Wacom Intuos Pro Medium for almost all my paintings. I also use a Wacom Cintiq 13 hd for some of my drawings.
This is a video related to my general basic workflow and process when I'm painting in Photoshop. Please bear in mind that this is not an in-depth tutorial, this is a beginner level tutorial. I'll create more video tutorials covering more concepts including perspective, values, colour, light, and more advanced techniques including gradient maps, blending modes, photo-texturing, photo-bashing and many more. I believe this is a good example for beginners who want to see and get an idea about how digital paintings are created in Photoshop. Digital painting can definitely be confusing but the more time you invest in it, the easier it becomes. I had a blast working on this illustration and I hope you like the video!

When I was a beginner, I used my touchpad. It felt like I`m painting with my finger, which is a million times better than a mouse.
For using the pen tool and to navigate over the canvas, I still prefer touchpad, over the tablet.
As is the case during these strange times of CV19 TH-cam threw this my way. I have a graphics tablet that I have no idea how to use properly and an overwhelming desire to produce digital art. You have just given me a quick, and very informative, lesson. I've hit subscribe and will get to it!
BTW I'm 68 and every day is a school day. NEVER stop learning.

Such a great video! I’m a graphic designer but I’ve always felt like it wasn’t “my place” to make more artist art like this since we’re usually not very “painterly” with our work (unless it calls for it) but it’s always been a side passion of mine. @@kimo_ you dont have to go wacom all at once. get a 25 dollar/euro tablet from aliexpress and start. it wont be as perrfect as a wacom but it will be 1000x better then a mouse

Is there a way to make the bushes panel look how it looks in the vid when you right click? Mine shows a giant preview of each brush and several folders
Yes click on the Settings (gear) icon on the top right and uncheck Brush Name and Brush Stroke and check Brush Tip.
I wish you would tell us the brushes you use during your drawing demonstration... Im having a hard time finding the brushes you use...and exploring the brushes

jrmz111 just practice when you can and watch other people draw if you see other people draw and you like something about their style you will gradually add that to your style
So I know that I’m waaay late with this comment, but I just wanted to say Please don’t feel discouraged! Painting is hard, and learning new mediums is hard. We can’t compare ourselves to the people in all the TH-cam tutorials who’ve spent years and years perfecting their art. It’s just not realistic. Instead, practice practice and practice some more, and after a couple of months, compare yourself to YOU. Look at the things you created when you first started, see if you improved. And be okay with the fact that for most of us, we’re only happy with the outcome of like 10% of the things we paint. To improve in something requires a lot of failure, and that’s okay.
