Because in Chinese Mythology, Ghost as often seen as demons, hence Demon Queller. Plus, there were some references in Zhong Kui using demons rather than ghost.
He is also known as The Demon Hunter in Chinese Mythology and People

Did you get nerfed,cause when I use his ult he doesn't heal allies.
yup nerfed alright no heal only immune to slows. his 2 heals less I believe demon bag gives less protections as well I think
so hes was more fun to play before the nerf nation attacked...

He means that the data for them is already in the game. Most of us already knew that Wu Kong is coming back soon, he was just talking about new gods further on.

If that was so, then the original gods when Closed Beta came out a year ago would mostly be in the top 20 or so. But the only "original" gods in the top 20 are Agni, Anubis, Ao, Guan, He Bo, Hades, Odin, Ra, Sobek, and Ymir. So 10/20 of the gods in the top 20 are the originals.
Neither of us know the algorithm, but it's definitely not the total matches played in Smite history.

Will the Chinese king of Hell ever show up, what about the Devil in Christian lore.
I know people are anxious to see Jesus but are worried his appearance would offend people but Christian lore is filled with all kinds of characters that would make excellent additions to Smite.
I don't see why Christians are so sensitive about their religion lol. Don't think I've seen a religion as sensitive as them.

I find it weird that they only chose one of the three legndary warrirs and not Lui Bei. Sure Guan Yu is pretty awesome but he's hardly as famous as Lui Bei.
Johnny Jacobsen Smite is about gods, my friend. Guan Yu is the only one who ascended to the Heavenly Palace to hold an office as the God of War.
Alexander Salt How many of them would have? China and their ascension is like England and their knighting of people. Not uncommon for anyone or anything to ascend.
Johnny Jacobsen You're right. But ascension often only means you get to be a Xian (saint). Guan Yu went above and beyond when he was appointed God of War.

Sure there are gods a dozen, but Guan Yu is not some unknown god they pulled out of their ass. He's present in hundreds if not thousands of temples. Both the Hong Kong police force and mafia worship him like no other. I doubt more people worship the likes of Erlang Shen or Tuota Tianwang. Besides, many of the other Gods find their origin in Indian mythology and would not really qualify as Chinese Gods.

It's Chinese, so when it is what we call 'romanised' so that it is in the English alphabet, it naturally isn't used in the same manner. The same happens in Korean 'p' sounds will swap with 'b' sounds for example. It's just a matter of how things sound different to people who speak different languages. Same goes for onomatopoeias like animal noises, what we hear is different to what they hear. :) Hope that helps!

Sam Martino I don't play him often, but when I do, he sucks and I watch others do it too and he is still too weak, the only useful thing is his ult and that's only for last hitting
Kirbylore Melon Man dude I just can't say hes bad I mean hes not very tough and his ult is good for last hitting got him to mastery 5 so its hard for me to say hes bad.

Kirbylore Melon i see him usually going solo tanky and he is quite good altough the soul gathering for the ult is somewhat tedious XD and getting a full bag during teamfights is hard
Have they given an estimate as to when the release will be? I personally like it being in a beta just because more content can be added and removed more quickly.
the problem is a lot of gods that could possible be added to the game share the same god roles such as god of war and such so technically giving them names like lawgiver and such adds more uniqueness to the character than adding like greek god of war, chinese god of war and egyptian god of war

Zhong Qui NEEDS more skins. I play him sooo often, but he only has two non recolor skins and it's depressing.

Totaly agree, was waiting for a new phys tank aswell, but wasnt expecting a guan remake :( AND especially for a ult remake.
I am not talking about team fights either, I am talking about 1v1 skirmishes when you aren't with either team.

he was a tank Support before, but everyone built him as a bruiser cuz he had good damage, a heal, and high def.
He means that they should add gold skins for each new god as soon as they are added rather than waiting for however long
its a good change imo because he doesn't look like a tank, he's more of a bruiser or pseudo-tank.

Did you even read his comment lol? I don't think you did. He said that a golden skin for the new god should be released with the god itself, not however many weeks later. He didn't say anything about them being free or changing their mechanics or anything of the sort.

I don't mean in the lane phase, I mean in actual fights. and his 3 is his only hard cc, for example, if you are fighting a nezha or loki or baka or something, they will cut through you like butter, but if you can launch em into the air then you are given an opportunity to nuke them down.

The true pronunciations are different from what we refer to them as. There are plenty of people, I've heard from a world studies class, that called Neith "NYE-th". Anhur as "ANN-hwa". Not much different, but Anubis as "an-YOU-biss". Ao Kuang as "yao-KWAN-guh". It's weird. Maybe they're a little different in that aspect.

I know this doesn't seem like it would make sense but I want somewhat of a magical bruiser, and this guy doesn't seem like he has the damage output to be a mage
ymir's ult: 1200 base damage with 200% magical power contribution. That seems like a bit too much damage to be a tank.

i dont get why people keep saying that guan yu is no longer a tank, they didnt take away his tankcapabilities, they just made it so he could build physical bruiser, hes still a viable tank, i mean , if the new guan yu is not a tank neither is Odin.

His passive could be that on death he auto resurrects after 3 seconds
they say its still beta, but the way the treat the thing seems more like the released game.

Hey i just saw that Guan Yu's new 4th basic attack doesn't affect the Phoenix, so he gets no damage at all (it's like an wasted basic attack). Is that normal?
Cthulhu isn't a god based on mythology. He's just a character in a story written by Lovecraft, so it wouldn't make sense for them to.
Is it just me, or does Guan Yu's voice sound exactly like the default?
I would say we need more bruisers, yes there is now guan yu but that only makes 4 bruiser, (not counting bruiser-assassin and bruiser-tank).

Guan Yu will be defacto first bruiser I really going to enjoy playing. I am more into mages but new Guan Yu is simply awesome.

If anybody's curious, the Mandarin pronunciation of this name is much closer to "Jong Kway" than "John Kwee."

Compare Anhur and Thor? FriendlyFeederFish was talking about Tyr. TYR. And even so, he might not be more played then Thor because Thor has been out for almost an entire year. It is going to take quite a bit for Tyr to get over him.
