This is a great conversation!! That “silence = violence” portion is SO TRUE!

Excellent discussion! Thankfully I no longer believe the negatives thrown at us from folks with a limited understanding of the bible - hopefully this discussion helps others struggling with this. I love all of your content - thanks for all you do

Lamont - Thank you for facilitating this great discussion. I have a few points:
▪We need to recognize and start applying critical thinking when it comes to the Bible and Christianity / organized religions.
The Bible is not perfect; it was written by fallible human beings (men) with their own prejudices and limited understanding of the world at a time they didn't have science to help explain many things in the world.
    ▪ Organized religion does not have monopoly on spirituality, even though they would like you to believe so. One can be spiritual (believe in a great power / source of Life / the Universe) without being religious. Religions are man-made institutions, deeply routed in patriarchy, misogyny, homophobia, racism, oppression, etc.
▪I recently learned from a historian that "sodomy" meant any sex which was non-procreative, not just between gay people. Therefore, even oral sex between straight people would have been considered sodomy during Roman / Medieval times.

The conversation was about religions specifically white Christianity in the black church and not Spirituality which is totally different from religion.
