The red color from the SSS comes from the Subsurface Radius. The default value is set for skin materials, where the red light goes deeper. You can plug colors there to change the way light behaves.
Well, when you make as many procedural materials as I do, you start to notice lots of materials all around the real world. Like the concrete sidewalk or the walls of a building. And I eat pickles pretty regularly, and so I thought it would be a really cool material to make.
Thanks a lot Ryan for this great tutorial. Would you please make procedural tutorials on; 1- Burnt Coal 2- MDF Board 3- Tomato 4- Aluminium 5- Emerald 6- Felt 7- Mirror Thank you very much! Much appreciated :)
@@RyanKingArt Ryan, I haven't gotten around to baking cucumber yet. Been fiddling with your asteroid. I made 4k textures, did a render. The quality was noticeably lower than with procedural material, plus there were artifacts on the sharp edges. I added the Subsurf modifier to the model. It increased memory size by 1.5 times compared to the procedural material. The result is still of poor quality, although the artifacts have disappeared. The only good thing is decreased rendering time. The procedural asteroid rendered in 10 min 14 sec, while the asteroid with baked maps took 5 min 28 sec (128 samples, 1920x1080 resolution). But the task is not only to reduce the rendering, but also to get rid of too dense geometry. You know, my PC was very good in 2009. 😃
hi ryan. i found a minor problem... i built a pickle to scale (about 6 cm long) and when i apply my scale on it, the pickle points are gone. is there a easy way to scale the whole material?

Thank you!
AMAZING😍😍
Thanks!
Have you tried a procedural yarn ball? Thay sounds like it would be crazy!
No I haven't, but that's a great idea! Thanks! 🧶
@@RyanKingArt Glad you like it!
I wonder what your thought process for making this video was. Like, what makes you come up with a pickle texture to begin with xD?

I get a lot of tutorial requests, but I will consider those. Thanks!
@@RyanKingArt Just was giving some tutorials ideas. No worries, take your time Ryan!

oh you don't like pickles? Not even sweet bread and butter pickles?? 🙂
@@RyanKingArt i dont 😅😅
This cucumber is very "heavy". If I tried to create a three-liter jar of these cucumbers, my computer would burn up.
Lol : )
@@RyanKingArt 😭
@@RyanKingArt You could release the second part of the lesson: baking the procedural textures of pickled cucumber.
@@haudtalis5036 I already made a tutorial on how to bake procedural materials: th-cam.com/video/AioskAgcU2U/w-d-xo.html

Yes, you can add a mapping node right after the texture coordinate node. Then use the scale values to scale the entire material at once.
@@RyanKingArt thank you!! :) now i can build them in scale.
why not use light and put it under spot light?
You could do that if you want. I just like using emission lights.
i got it all working but I have weird 'ridges' on my bumps like horizontal extrusions anybody have a idea how to fix it?
What is your blender version?
the most recent one. version 3.2
Pickles 😛
Yess!!
Hey Ryan, what version of blender was this made in?
Umm I think it was 3.2

@Bayani Clowers What really? Wow I eat them almost every day.
Oh, really? I eat them almost every day. 🙂
@@RyanKingArt yeah, I wonder if they are how I expect they taste like, I think of a sour and salty cucumber kinda like taste
@@omg_squid6949 Yes, they have a sour, vinegar like taste. I really like them. And if you get sweet pickles, then they taste sweet. : )
