    I used to work for the ambulance service, you wouldn't believe how difficult porches made our job. 90 deg turns when carrying people is a nightmare. They make getting a stretcher into a house impossible.

    Hi Steve, being clay and a highly reactive soil.Different moisture contents can move and shift earth. Therefore more susceptible to seasonal movement. I’d highly recommend putting in some steel in any footing otherwise down the track it could cost you. Just an opinion mate, love all your work.

  • @michaelapearce9889
    @michaelapearce9889 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Well done boys. Shame you don’t do work down south… LOL!! One thing someone mentioned about soil conditions that might be worth thinking about in the future for extension foundations…. ground heave. The engineer would usually include any requirements for ground heave products (claymaster, etc) on their drawings…. as all soils are low, medium or high in nature concerning movement, and as such may need compressible materials to their inside face. Can’t wait to see this porch finished. 👍🏻😎

    looked fairly easy digging for a change, is it going to have a roof on under the carport ? not much of a porch by the time the cavity walls are built.

    Why does it have to be so deep for a porch, and why is the bit in the middle not getting dug out? I've got plans and a warrant for a porch, but can't get a builder to do it, so trying to figure out how to do it myself.

    • @SteveAndAlexBuild
      @SteveAndAlexBuild  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There is a minimum depth fir footings .
      The middle only needs to go down deep enough to allow for hardcore, insulation and the concrete floor 🧱👍🏽

      Bungalow on our estate has built another bedroom on the drive (Front corner of the house) which has turned a 3 car drive into a 1 car drive and now there's a Garage in the back garden with no access. As the bedroom does not run the length of the house there's is now 1 cars length of dead former driver space between the back of the bedroom addition and the garage door.
