  • In this adventure i go through my full 3 season gear load out for backpacking. I explore what I could change to become ultralight. I also show you how a pack my backpack as well.
    what I learned is if I want to be "ULTRALIGHT" I have to stop drinking awesome coffee, stop filming, sacrifice durability and be uncomfortable hiking and at camp. but ya know if I lost that 6lbs I could carry in a six pack and walk an extra 10 miles......wait I'll do that anyway.

    Great video. Nice to see a normal persons pack and choices. I prefer to pre-roll some stubbies myself. I am outside of Phili and wander all around PA and surrounding. Hope to cross paths someday. rod

      @@nebraska_rod for sure, pre rolls are probably the best bet. PA is such a hidden gem. Definitely stop to say high if ya see me!!!

    I too will never be ultralight. I like to carry stuff also. Plus I love some retro and bushcraft gear, that's never ultralight. And I've yet to find an ultralight cast iron pan. LOL.
    Coffee - I really like using the Primula brew buddy. It's a plastic disk with a mesh bag that sits on the rim of the cup. Put the grounds in the bag and pour the hot woter over it. The bag hangs into the cup so you can let it steep until you get to the desired strength. It tastes more like french press coffee than pour over coffee. It's cheap too. Usually around $6 for one or 2 for $10. It's also easy to clean.
    For your ganja storage, something that is a little bit bigger and easier to get stuff in/out than the M&M tubes is a large TicTac container. I use one to hold a couple fire starters, a mini bic, small ferro rod, and a whistle. It's 2.25x1.5x3.75 inches and empty it weighs 5/8oz (19g)

      @stonedapeadventures  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'll have to check out that tic tac container. cast aluminum is a bit lighter.....you could always cut the handle off as well lol

    I’m guessing the slit in the spoon was like a diy vegetable peeler ?? Btw that shirt is insane 🫢🩷

    • @stonedapeadventures
      @stonedapeadventures  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @korynu the slit is to hang off my stove to help keep the gas warm in winter, although I'm going to sharpen it now to make a vegetable peeler too lol....I live the colorful shirts!!

    can you ditch one of the tarp poles and use the umbrella instead? Or if you're gonna carry a saw cause you like to buck up wood for the fire, just ditch the tarp poles and start looking for sticks when youre getting close to camp. Maybe the splitwing is too fiddly though being catinary and getting into camp in the dark etc its better to just carry them. Ditch the thermometer unless youre still dialing in your gear to get it adjusted?
    Maybe you could ditch one of your side pockets (if you can detach them) if you removed the additional bottle, kept one full and kept the bladder for more capacity if you needed it. Maybe you could even ditch both side pockets if the umbrel was a frog togs, and the tent poles were replaced by sticks cut with the saw.
    The pillow could def be smaller. I found a sea to summit one wrapped in a tshirt or shemagh is very comfy, just dont blow it up all the way.
    You could probably carry either the toilet paper or the bidet.
    Otherwise - unless youre going super long distances this is a really great lightweight kit, its hard to find a gap in it.

      @davef5916 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's pretty easy to get good coffee on a lighter weight too. Boundless Voyage have a cheap titanium mesh pour over filter. Or those bags with good coffee in them that have bat wings that go over the sides of the cup that let you do a pour over.

    • @stonedapeadventures
      @stonedapeadventures  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @davef5916 On longer trips, I get down to about 12 lbs. if I'm doing long food carries, the kit changes a good bit. I really need to change up the ditty bag it's put together for long trips, and I haven't been able to any for a few years now, funny thing the battery in the thermometer has been dead for 6 months. I just like to document the temp. winter, I pay more attention to it.

    After buying the latest ultra light weight stuff only to find that either the quality or performance or both is less than what i already had I am calling a stop. I vow to not change anything unless my existing kit wears out. My latest is an expensive down jacket which is no better that my old one which was 20% of the price

      i feel most things made ultralight loose a ton of durability and some function.

  • @rodoutdoors
    @rodoutdoors หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Sweet loadout. I dig the look of the backpack. Looks durable. The pillow looks awesome.
    I was looking into the Slingfin bundle when looking into tarps. Great design. Generic groundhog clones that come with budget tents still work. I just keep using them until they get too bent lol.
    Neat grill. I love the Aeropress Go. I'll use that lid as like a mini bowl to stash like a dirty spoon or something. I dig the Opinel No 8 for food related tasks.
    No clue what the slit in the spoon is for.

    I'm with you on no ultralight. Unless you're race walking the trail...why? As a former paratrooper in the Army, people complaining about carrying 25 lbs just makes me laugh. We did a 3 hr ruck, 20km with 45 lbs, every 6 months. Moreover, we never used the Alice pack waist belt. It was 100mph taped to the external frame! And during FTXs (field training exercises) - we were carrying 75-90 lbs regularly (almost all ammo weight - going into Haiti in 1994 my ruck was 104 lbs). I'm almost an inch shorter than before I joined the Army! And I still workout for hikes with an Alice Pack. Fold up a sleeping bag in the bottom and put a 20 lbs medicine ball on top and go do 5 or so miles around the neighborhood.

    I’m not sure you know what a litre is. That pack is waaay bigger than 30L. Looks like a 50. And yes I heard that you custom the top. That makes it like a 60.

    • @stonedapeadventures
      @stonedapeadventures  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @timmo971 The radius is 15 inches, and the height is 36 inches. The top lid is smaller than a 1 gallon bag. math works out 40 liters, main compartment. probably hard to tell, but that is a small pod, and its radius is bigger than the bag. without the extra roll top added, it comes in at 32.

    • @stonedapeadventures
      @stonedapeadventures  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @timmo971 I have a 65 liter bag from dan as well. I'll have to do video comparing the 2 together

    • @andyh6066
      @andyh6066 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@stonedapeadventures Even if you mixed up radius and diameter those measurements would put the bag at 100 litres. 3.14 x 7.5 x 7.5 (radius) x 36 = 6358 cubic inches = 104 litres. Top rolled down would make it less but has to be at least 60 litres.
