Absolutely epic, man. Beautiful footage and this vid is expertly crafted. The footage of you watching Jared, clicking to buy, the transition into unboxing. So well done. Congrats on the Komodo-X!
Hey Matthew! Thanks man I really appreciate it. I know the X footage isn’t earth shattering but it was certainly a get it out as soon as possible thing. But I also wanted to put more effort into it than just an iPhone unboxing. Hopefully it came across that way
Brandon, I came over here from the chat you did with Josh. This is an amazing video bro, you're spirit and enthusiasm really comes across so well. Super content man.
It is indeed a little cube of wonder! Great job, man. Loved that unboxing and the edit. Great stuff. I think, first time here. It was a good choice. Thanks for sharing your thoughts 🙏
Even more dumb are the “ look I finally bought a RED Komodo X “ videos where these people buy the camera without doing any research or even renting out the camera and then decide to sell it and make another video “ why it’s not for me”.
Hey i love the story of car ride, unpacking and skating😄👍 question about the unpacking scene. Is this the OG Komodo? Your moody look is great. Specially the volleyball doc👍👍👍
I would love to see some comparisons with Fuji X-H2S, a MUCh cheaper camera that has a better picture than red dragon and a ton of features for 1/3 of the price or less
This is the first time I’ve actually considered adding a red to my kit. I kinda wanted the OG Komodo but knew in my heart the c70 was a better choice for me. I’m shopping around for a c300 / c500 for larger productions, and this Komodo x is a real contender Uh oh
I personally would not agree with this sentiment. I’d say that the overall image is better on the X. It’s different since it is new and matches more closely to the raptor, but it’s not a downgrade compared to the Original Komodo
Just discovered your channel and you've got a new subscriber! I, too, am in love with my Komodo, greatest camera I've ever owned. But I will be trading mine in for the X next year when I can afford it. My studio and corporate work sadly doesn't warrant 2 Komodos lol. I can get away with a mirrorless camera for my B cam. I've also got the C70, which I had been using as a B cam, and it's absolutely fantastic, but again, I just don't need it. Most of my clients can't afford the cost associated with the Komodo and C70 combined, so most 2 camera shoots I end up using the Komodo or C70 as my A cam, and my Fuji X-H2 as my B cam. Probably more exposition than you'd care for haha! But in any case, I'd love love LOVE to see a low light comparison between the Komodo and the X. Other than the lack of frame rate options, my only real issue with the Komodo was it's subpar low light capabilities. I also use the RED Control app on my iPad Mini and love it, it's the only truly reliable and fully featured wireless monitoring setup I've used for all the various cameras that I've owned over the years, and nothing beats it. Oh, and if you wouldn't mind checking out my channel and considering giving me a sub, I'd really appreciate it 🙏
Congratulations on the new camera. As far as being better in every way. Well, it has slightly more DR and higher frame rates. But honestly, I would have traded both of those for smaller size and built in eVNDs. The OG Komodo was designed to be a crash cam… due to its size/weight it’s better suited for that purpose. I see people comparing the Komodo with V-Mount adapter and V-Mount battery to the Komodo-X size wise. Red did not make a V-mount adapter. You can always compare a fully rigged camera to a stock body and the fully rigged out camera will appear bigger. But if you compare the OG Komodo with BP-915 batteries installed, it’s way smaller and lighter than Komodo-X… which is stuck using much larger and heavier V-Mount batteries. I was disappointed when I saw the Komodo-X. In its smallest usable configuration it is considerably larger and heavier than Komodo. I’ll hold out for Komodo Mk2 which Jarred Land has already stated is in development. Hopefully Red sticks to the original concept of a small/lightweight and high quality crash cam. Imo, before I would purchase the Komodo-X I would just purchase the slightly larger Raptor 35? Better lowlight, superior highlight recovery and more I/O. Maybe I’m missing something. That said, horses for courses.
My Komodo X with a CoreNano is 3.7lbs and the Komodo with BP-955s is 3.2lbs and is exactly one inch shorter. So I wouldn’t say it’s “considerably larger and heavier” a half a pound and one inch is nothing. And that’s coming from someone who does 15mile hikes with 60lbs of gear for some shoots. And I’d gladly take the extra size and weight for the litany of improvements they’ve made in the operability of the camera. But you’re right size and weight are the only things I’ve found so far the original Komodo is better at. I also would have loved to seen Internal NDs but that would have made it much bigger. And that’s a great thing to be better at. I love them both. As far as going an s35 raptor, I didn’t because 1) even bigger still. 2) much more money. 3) I’d rather have the global shutter/sensor
Compare it with BP-915 batteries… they are half the size and weight of the larger BP-955 batteries. When flying on a drone ever gram counts. When you need to mount the camera is small spaces 1/2” can be a deal breaker. Why do you think Red didn’t make the OG Komodo use V-Mount in the first place? But like I said, YMMV.
@@angryrabbitproductions1690 it would be relative: if I used the 915s and the smallest Smallrig a mount it would still be the size and eight comparison. And relatively the same power output. I know it matters to an FPV pilot. That’s why there’s still an OG Komodo. Just like the OG was designed for a certain purpose, the X was designed with a different purpose.
I usually don’t like “scripted unboxing videos” like telling the story on how they received the package, they’re usually boring and pretty cringy… BUT ! I liked this one, loved the shots, great job on captivating the audience, oh and congrats con the new Komodo, it is an absolute beast !
Very curious to see a real set of you controlling 2/3 Komodos with one iPad! The practical implication of this is HUGE for single operator who runs multicam (like myself).
@@caffeinatedcameras looking forward to it! At the moment I run a 4k multicam setup with all Sony, since their A1, a7siii, a7iv, a7c, ZV-E1 and the a6400 all matches decently well with no overheating or other limitations, so that's the most budget friendly solution I came up with.
Everyone is saying the X is more A cam, but with the accessories you can already get for the Komodo It seems really the only thing you’re really paying for is higher frame rates… the “different” sensor may have a slight slight edge in the bottom dynamic range, but is all that worth and extra $4000? I’m skeptical that the the X is a noticeable difference in image quality. So… extra $4000 for highspeed.. idk
Yes you can buy external audio, you can get adapters for Vmounts… but after having those better things built in plus the frame rates the better image…but what you can’t see until you use it is how much more polished it is. It’s much faster. The screen, and the interface, how much better the app works with it, how much faster the AF is, It has essentially 3 video outs with the SDI, RMI and Usbc. As someone who has both, it (to me) doesn’t feel like I spent $4k for frame rates. It feels like I spent 4k more for a very different experience with a ton more possibility. But that’s just me. You aren’t the only skeptical one, and it’s ok to be skeptical. Both cameras are rad though.
