- I applied to twenty colleges...because I felt like it. (Including some Ivy League universities) I’ve been wanting to make this video since my freshman year and it’s finally time. I was beyond excited to film and I’m even more excited to upload this.

i hope you chose UPENN, and that scholar program. obviously you would be conflicted because of your boyfriend and friends, but the USA is extremely hierarchical, and going to an ivy league would give you an amazing start!

Well, Hands down UPenn. I went to Howard Undergrad and USC for grad school and although I had a nice time in LA I didn't have the best time at USC. I knew USC was a good school but once I got there I didn't understand the hype. It was also very hard being a student of color at USC. I found my own set of friends and organizations but what I really found to be the toughest was that many times I was the only person of color in my classes and it became kind of awkward on many occasions. I am Black and PuertoRican and LA is still very segregated and in LA i found that i had to choose one side of my heritage and stick to that. I wasn't Black enough and I wasn't Latino enough so it made navigating certain spaces even among my own people quite uncomfortable. On the flip side, My time at Howard was amazing. I made a lot of life long friends while in the north east. Since most other colleges were less than 3 hours away I got to go to many games and meet people not just from my own school but many others including Penn, Temple, NYU, Georgetown, and the list can go on and on. Also, take into consideration transportation. Going to USC was torture since i did not have a car. Campus is dead on the weekends and if you don't have a car you will be stuck on campus and that will only be fun for about a month. After that I had to buy a car which added to my college cost. If your thinking about USC I can tell you that the campus is really pretty but the snobbery is very prevalent as a lot of these kids are swimming in money. I also thought I would be going to games since USC is a big 10 school. I was sadly mistaken. The tickets are very expensive for a college kid and Alumni pay way in advance so I was never able to attend. Sorry this got long but I just wanted to give you some of my perspective since I grew up in Miami and attended a school in the northeast and went to USC for grad school. Both USC and UPenn have offered you an amazing opportunity and I am so proud of you for getting into both schools. If you are on the fence, please take a real good look at Penn. You would be a rockstar there and being in Philadelphia for college is amazing. You would also be so close to NY and DC so the opportunities for internships are abundant. LA is very nice but land locked from anywhere else. Internships were not as prevalent even though I maintained a high GPA. Nevertheless, If USC offers you a full ride then go however, if UPenn is offering you a scholars position, do not pass that up! A degree from Penn alone will set you up for the rest of your life as an IVY grad. Good luck and congratulations. Howard c/o 97 - USC c/o 99

I know I’m late but can u explain how u applied to so many colleges
I did some of them through the Quest Bridge Scholars program which you have to apply to (I have a video on that) and the rest I just did on common app and made a google doc to keep track. Hope that helps!

Hey, I have a question like if I apply for ED for like UChicago and get accepted, Do I have to withdraw from other universities? Do I have to do that for sure? Like can we not just accept UChicago and wait for other RD decisions too?
Usually when you apply early decision that locks you in and you do have to withdraw from other universities. I know a case where someone went through the whole withdrawal process and eventually realized they could not financially pay for the school and now goes to my college. But typically Early decision is binding. Early action is a different thing and that is not binding. It just means you get to know sooner.
Btw you can only apply to one school ED so make it your dream school!!

I am from Florida and most of the Florida schools you applied for I want to apply for as well. How are you able to get accepted from them?
No applicant looks the same but I’ve always been told it’s best to have good grades and extracurriculars (preferably be a leader in at least one like captain or president) and especially make sure when you write your college essay and supplemental questions you are unique and make every word count!

Don’t go to a school BECAUSE your bf is going there. This education is something you are doing for yourself and family. If it works out that way - great, but if your heart is pointing you in a different direction, listen to your heart. This is YOUR choice 💕
I would disagree after going to a school with all new people then transferring to a school with people from my high school I am actually so much happier at the school with the people I know and u are easily able to make new friends and also still be close with your old friends so do whatever u want
