    Hi Kevin, thanks for this! I'm looking at my analytics and I see literally thousands of domains, all with 100% bounce rates and a duration of 0. Is there another option besides blocking them all manually?

    • @KevinBekker
      @KevinBekker  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you can identify the single source using source/medium that can work. Problem is, a lot of bad traffic occurs from within campaigns, so a lot of times you have to go deeper then source/medium. Let me know if you need any additional help. Thank you for watching.

    2021... Yeah be careful with this. The problem is that not all bots are bad bots, and different kinds of advertising will give you similar results.
    For example, crawlers. As part of my own marketing strategies, submit ads to the ISEDN (independent search engine and directory network). Well, there are a TON of crawlers that will scrape your site's sitemap looking for any 404's and other errors.
    The handshake takes a fraction of a second and it won't show any time logged because it's not actually loading any page, just looking for a server response, but it will show up in your analytics as a user and session.
    That's just one example. There are a few other reasons for this.
    Email advertising and just regular browsing will generate similar results thanks to some antivirus and malware programs that monitor links. Those programs will scan the links on a page just to see if they're good. Again, it doesn't load the page, just looks for a server signal.
    Also... if you use Google Tag Manager, you're probably going to see (not set) more often than not. I don't know why, but it happens a lot. And goodness help you if users are on a VPN or proxy because you won't find anything about them.
    What I'm saying is, a lot of good things look like bad traffic, (sketchy). Block the wrong thing and you can kill your website.
    Cloudflare has this bot protection mode? Don't ever turn that on. lol

      What up Dexter? The video is to show people how to identify bot traffic in their Google Analytic data, so they can add filters if needed. Blocking bots from hitting your actual website is an entirely different matter. Thank you for your comment. Keep crushing it out there.

    After 2 years in business I've started to get this bad traffic. Do competitiors do that to each other, is it easy to do it to someone? I need to hire a pro to deal with this now.

      Hello J Rock. Is the traffic coming from your digital advertising or it is organic/direct/ referral traffic to your website?

    • @jrock2617
      @jrock2617 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KevinBekker it's all coming from my fb and Google ads on desktop computers . I've been in business for three years doing good, never seen this kind of traffic and drop in sales before, it's handcuffed my business. I've gotten by with very basic ad knowledge and stragety, wasn't even using pixels.

    • @KevinBekker

      @@jrock2617 Both FB and Google ads should have bot protection features. Avoid buying ads outside of Google and FB. Google give you the opportunity to buy from "partner networks" as does FB. You'll want to uncheck the boxes that allow this.
      On facebook specifically make sure the "Facebook™ Audience Network for Mobile Ads" is deselected. When selected like Google partners, your adds will be pushed outside the walls of FB.
      In both instances, you may get cheaper clicks but also cheaper performance. I would avoid both if you can.

    why are you blocking it in analytics ? you will still "buy" it but analytics won't show that !!

    • @KevinBekker
      @KevinBekker  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can block the traffic (domains) within a programmatic block list, but there will always be new sources of fake traffic, so it's important to continue to check. There are a lot of companies that pull revenue off of fake traffic. If their sources of revenue start declining, they will create new ones.

      If the traffic in a digital campaign then it would need to be blocked within the tech you are using on the campaign. if the traffic is hitting your website via Organic/Direct/Referral etc then there's not much you can do but block the source from your analytics.
