    Great honest comparison. It seems to be a near toss up, with the DJI maybe winning out just a tad... HOWEVER, for many if not most of us, especially if retired as I am, the bottom line is which do you already own? I have the Go Pro, and have no intention of blowing another wad for the DJI which you have to buy the package to make it better. My Mavic 3 will piggy back the Go Pro, which is all I need for that and my camping and kayak trips. HOWEVER, still wonder if the DJI is the only one which will make the selfie stick disappear? That I like...

    • @JakeSloan
      @JakeSloan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      neither one of these will make the selfie stick disappear and I am always a strong proponent of using what you already have over purchasing more!

    If they could offer "real" action cam with replaceable lens cover and postproduction software - that value would be around the price. GoPro prepares ReelsteadyGO 2.0 that will be integrated into the GoPro Player desktop app.

    Good video, but you forgot to mention the overheating issues that both these cameras have. Especially the DJI Action 2 that will only record 3-5 min before it turns off in certain situations. The worst situations seems to be when filming in 4K60/120 while using the built-in camera mod storage, or when using the underwater housing.
    Have you tested and compared this?

    Are file sizes comparable? The Osmo Action 1 produces much larger files at the same resolution at 60fps, especially above 1080p. I preordered the A2. I have the Hero 10 as well, but the A2 seems better to mount it or to use it underwater up 10 m deep without a case as it has no battery doors/seals that can fail. Given the small internal storage and battery life, I wonder if 2.7K at 60fps prolongs the battery and allow to record quite more footage than 4K

    • @JakeSloan
      @JakeSloan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      comparing the side by side shots and other shots where I did the same length of shots they are almost exactly the same. sometimes the action 2 files are slightly smaller sometimes the GoPro files are slightly smaller

    • @rafaellima381
      @rafaellima381 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      people who go swimming with these action cameras without case are really suicides.... no matter water manufacturer says, the camera will reduce its lifespan...
      either by the salt in sea water which will corrode rubber and create rust to any joint the camara has
      either by clorine in swimming pool water which makes the water a little acidic and in months or years will damage the camera also
      the waterproof design is amazing case you are outdoors hiking and suddenly start to rain (the camera wont broke) as well as it helps to clean dust sand and anything from the camera...
      but using the camera out of the box for water activities it is just "not caring about the money"

    I think you did forget one important thing and that is if you plug any mod into the action 2 it's no longer waterproof which for example to me is a concern, so yes you get more things with the mods like battery time and so on but loosing as well.

    I been watching review after review on this new product, and NO ONE is addressing the OVERHEATING issue. On top settings the POS overheats in about 3 mins and at 1080P in about 9 mins at best. Sorry to say this product is just junk ...they really got to address the overheating. Battery life on it sucks as well. For the price you are paying you would expect very high level of engineering. Pay a lil more the the GoPro 10, they at least have it dialed in reasonably well. DO NOT GET this product until they address the overheating...utter garbage.

    • @JakeSloan
      @JakeSloan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      they do need to address it and they likely will in future firmware. If you remember the GoPro Hero 10 had over heating issues as well that were then addressed in firmware. Now they are finding it has cold weather issues and their fix is a firmware update and you can buy a special cold weather battery. Every action camera has issues pick which ones will not affect you the most and go for it

    I regret buying the DJI-2 creator combo yesterday. I had to because the tripod screw and mic-in have been omitted in the bare-bones version to induce a more expensive purchase. You only get the creator combo to work when you create a DJ account. In addition, the combo works with blue-tooth, but you only get a connection with it if you give DJI permission to use the WiFi. I hate those kind of mac-esque marketing tricks. I am buying a device and not handcuffs from DJI.

    This was probably the most well balanced and dynamic end to end comparison. I've been trying to figure out if I should buy the Action 2 since for its ability to be given a magnetic cover to wear on the chest. You covered most of the questions I had about the Action 2 and was actually more generous of it than most reviewers. They cited that the lens cannot be replaced or remove; that it overheats; and that its only waterproof with the modular attachment. Overall I think you made a good case for either cameras depending on need.

    Hey Jake, one question for you. Love the videos sir and all of us at GoPro watch your evaluations carefully. Appreciate all the feedback. Have you tried comparing RS vs HS when using the same resolution and framerate? I see you compared 4K60 on A2 and 5.3K60 on the H10 (same source footage on Jeven's video). 4K/60 on the HERO10 will allow you to shoot in High HyperSmooth. I believe that would be much more comparable? Remember that 5.3K60 only has Standard HyperSmooth available. Maybe that makes it more apples to apples comp since they'll be both at 4K/60 with highest possible stabilization? Cheers!

      Thanks for saying hello! I have been planning to do another comparison video and I need to do exactly what you say. I have to admit it’s getting more difficult to do direct comparisons with action cameras as they are starting to diverge into different form factors and if we are being honest different uses. I will try and some better direct comparisons here soon. Btw I was blown away by how well the hero 10 handled the helicopter. There is so much vibration happening in that situation and the hero 10 did a fantastic job of stabilization. I am really curious to see the new cold weather batteries. That’s something I definitely could put to use lol. Cheers and thanks again for saying hello!

    That was an awesome comparison all though I reckon you were a bit light on the gopro's negatives based on what I've been researching. I have a motorcycle adventure channel in New Zealand using two gopro hero black 7's and to be honest right now I'm too scared to update, not to mention all the batteries and accessories I have for them. I know nothing about the DJI Action 2, but will research to see the physical practicalities of changing over to DJI. It's such a shame Gopro haven't got it together. There are so many quality blogs using gopro 10 that are bitterly pissed and disappointed with its reliability, crashing, not recording when is showing it is, and more. So you can understand there are a lot of us out here wondering where to go next. Enough said. Love your channel and have never seen it before. Subscribed.

    It seems a little risky to record my video - then have to connect it to another piece of the camera - then remove the the SD card. And if you want to record to the SD card I need a case to make it waterproof. That's a lot of extra steps.

    Thank you for this comparison video. I am using a GoPro 6 for my fishing content and being outside on the lake/river naturally there are challenges with audio and stability. Jake.. or anyone reading, does the osmo accomodate an external mic? Does it have a quick start up feature? I like being able to tap the GoPro shutter button and immediately start recording. Any help is greatly appreciated!

    • @JakeSloan
      @JakeSloan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The osmo does with an adapter or with the new DJI wireless mic and it does have a quick capture feature as well. The performance is pretty snappy too about the same as GoPro to start up and start recording. Do remember though as soon as you add the battery or screen mod (or an external mic) you loose the water proofing.

    there is one big problem you didnt point you is the lens cover
    most people who spend 400 usd in a action camera turn out to be too cheap to no pay 40 dolars more for a protection case... what lead to very common scratches in the lens protection
    the camera falls, sand, branches, rocks even other objects inside the backpack bumping into the camera make the lens protection permanently damaged
    well gopro has already stopped the stupid idea of having the lens cover not removable and nowadays you can buy online for 20 dolars and replace yourself

    Great comparison, Jake. I also just wanted to say, how pleased I am to see two of my favorite "drone men", doing some projects together and also just having a great time doing it. I think you and Jeven are a "cinch" for this, partly because you're both such avid outdoor guys. Man, I just wish I could have or maybe develop enough health and energy, to do half of what either one of you do. I also watched the Utah video featuring you and Jeven together with the Action 2. I'm leaning strongly on the Action 2, partly because I think I can buy it refurbished for a pretty good price. I'm also a drone flyer, but it's not too convenient carrying around my Air 2 s, just to try and get some wide, action video or photos. That's kind of a "duh" statement, I know, plus I love the stabilization these action cams have. I gota get goin' with some of this. Thanks again. Marc T.
