    Hi Kamon.
    I just added pollen patties. Holy Smokes- they hit each one like there was no tomorrow. Between patties + syrup my boxes are full of bees. No wax moths so far. Have multiple SHB traps in each colony. Just finished mite treatment - time to test to see results.
    Only have 9 hives. This is plenty for a 2nd year beek.
    Thank you for your videos.

    Lol, you did sound like Porky Pig.
    Great information Kamon. It's the same way here. I use Ultra Bee pollen substitute and patties, at different times. If there is any pollen whatsoever coming in, my bees will not touch the pollen substitute. They are harvesting pollen from the bahia grass right now, it probably isn't the most nutritious. So I'm feeding pollen patties to supplement and they're eating them. Bottom line, if the bees don't need it, they won't eat it.

    • @kamonreynolds

    I just finished mixing up pollen patties using your 5 1/4# recipe. It turned out just right. With 10 hives this gives 1/2# to each one.
    They are tearing into sugar syrup. It seems to help them draw out new comb. The pattie will help growth.
    My boxes are full. Feeder rims also are nice to give them full access to the pattie. Hot as blue blazes in Atl but it’s summer, supposed to be hot.
    Hopefully the Ladies agree with the formula.

      Thanks Raul, It depends. Certain times of the year I might check the hives once a week. (honeyflow/swarm season) in slow times of the year we do a quick inspection every other week just to see if the colony is queen right and laying. We will feed patties once a week but that does not mean we pull out frames.

    How long is too long to leave a patty on

    • @danskisbees7348
      @danskisbees7348 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think that it's more about how much, rather than, how long. Me personally, I usually check my hives weekly. If I open a hive and see that that the patty is still moist and almost gone, then I probably gave them the right amount. If I open a hive and see that the patty is dry or has some SHB larvae, I give them a smaller piece that they can cover. I hope this helps.
