  • Everyone wants to feed pollen patties, but everyone is afraid of the Small Hive Beetle (SHB). Let me show you how I am feeding patties while simultaneously killing beetles.

    I don't care for how the bees get stuck in the sheets; but, I also know that those few bees would gladly sacrifice their lives for the hive. Your idea is ingenious! Without them, your hives would look like a Ghost Busters movie! I think your right, I wouldn't take off the paper, it's attracting to many beetles.

    Good job, I just put patties on also here in southern Missouri, we have a lot of natural pollen coming in but we also have several rainy days in a row and I want my bees fat going into winter, this was a heck of a good job man, thanks for sharing,shb terrible here I run solid bottoms but that doesn't seem to help any, so I have to feed dry usually or tiny patties, DEFINITELY trying this asap 👍

    IN the last 2 years I have been feeding pollen and pollen patties outside the hive. Its been really working great. I have though boosted a small hive inside the hive with small patties and used the swiffer sheet on top. It works good enough. But I would rather feed outside the hive and it works well for me.

    Trick I found is removing all my screened bottoms, they let them walk through bottom floors, installed beetle barns and guardian entrances along with sealing up any cracks, and that did it. I feed patties in the summer no problem in Arkansas with serious amounts of beetles around, I just put 1/4lb on at a time to be safe, mind you all my hives are in the shade to, just my yard unfortunately

    SHB In Ga can be a mess. I use beetle blasters. No major issues so far. I feed small (1/2#) pollen patties to all hives. I only have 9 so can take a look on a weekly basis. Mite treatment this time of year is critical as well.
    It works for me. I’m sure there are other ways to achieve success as well.

    Nice one.
    We only rarely have SHB here, and even one is reportable, but using pollen patties to bait the trap would be worthwhile even if the bees had no actual need for feeding.
    And that's a great assistant you have there :-)

    Nice video just subscribed, I like the idea of floating a 3/4" board in the black feeder, great tip. I knew about the Swiffer pads, but placing on top of the patty was genious.

    I always put pollen patties on, if the bees don't want it, it's their choice,, SHBs aren't a problem for me here, but there are the roach motels for them.

      Maybe I'm too late with my comment, but you're right! Bees are smarter than a beekeeper 😀. And most of the necessary things in beekeeping can be done by myself - cheaper and of the best quality, so to speak, a personal brand😀. I make winter and spring candy according to my own recipe. For example, so

    Could you use the swiffer sheets as a sandwich instead of paper?
    That way you have top and bottom covered.
    Thanks for the helpful content, good to see the little one keen to get involved.
    With many source blessings with truth clarity love light laughter happiness joy fun play creativity adventures and may peace be with you all!

    What’s the difference in Protein Patties and Pollen Patties ...some times you say them like they are one and the same....I try to feed Ultra Bee several times....but the bees won’t touch it...what’s the secret...

    • @joebrown2487
      @joebrown2487  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      ed devault they are the same thing. The key is using it in a dearth. It’s kind of like feeding syrup in the honey flow; they won’t take it as fast when they have a natural choice.

    Junk Food for Bees. Honey Bees should be allowed to consume their stores and raise their brood on Natural Pollen, for long life & good health.

    • @joebrown2487
      @joebrown2487  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Cows should eat grass all the time as well, but sometimes there is none. So you feed hay. Why is it that people will starve bees because it’s “natural” but they won’t treat their pets and livestock in the same manner?

    • @paulchristu996
      @paulchristu996 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kept bees are livestock, kept in artificial environments and subjected to unnatural stresses (splits, comb replacement, etc). Improving the available nutrition helps them cope.
