This is a quarter of the cost of the Boss EURUS GS-1 guitar and the expression pedal that goes with the Boss unit is also almost 4x the switching unit of the GTRS. Nice.
Thanks for interesting short review. I don't think I would consider this as a solution for replacement for any serious live application but looks like absolutely brilliant for practicing, easy home type production anywhere or small club events. I wish you showed more examples of sounds especially other than metal applications but probably you have left the pleasure to others ;)
yes, but the guitar would probably need to be routed to be able to fit it anyways and wires soldered as well. I mean at best if it was sold separately and you installed it in any guitar and you paid someone to do the work it might still cost you upwards of $200 tops. Please also remember the current inflated status of our economy, labor is not as cheap as it use to be and the quality of the labor is also worse than ever. 1 year ago maybe $100 to install such a feature.
@@jamesblair2000 Fair points, but these are absolutely not a problem. I'd much rather spend the money and have this feature in a guitar that fits my needs when it comes to specs and look. Being only limited to this guitar doesn't help. As such, I see no issue in having the option to buy the kit and installing it myself, or, paying someone for the additional labour to handle the installation.
Really cool! I think it’s also an good solution for people that are new with modelling or want a guitar that can do little of everything. It’s like an improved Variax with better looks as well.
Great review . Only worry is the length of battery life and if can you swap out batteries mid gig , if you can’t , why not . Batteries eventually die so always worried about inbuilt obsolescence ... but , if all works , wow , what a great guitar
cool review! I ordered it in July, really curious to see how good it will be! I'm normally old school but I think it's worth trying this new modern solutions! Ciao :)
Great review! Although, don´t know about you guys, I´m not sure if these new portable-digital modeling systems are necessarily better, or more reliable, or more efficient than a traditional setup (guitar/bass + cables + pedalboard + amp, that is), are they? Coz, first of all, it seems that you need to have at least a good smartphone to make it work, right? So that´s some good extra $$ right off the bat if you get this guitar, right? And maybe a phone that´s even more expensive than the guitar alone. Furthermore, even if you already have a smartphone, the idea of buying a guitar that in-and-off-itself needs one to work a new functionality, is a bit off-putting, coz otherwise what would be the point? In such case, you would be better off just getting a regular guitar, if you ask me. On top of that, you would need to rely on the bluetooth signal not crashing (which is not that rare), and hopefully zero latency from the interfase, as well, am I wrong? Add to this, the special interfase gear for guitar-to-cellphone, etc., making all the setup progressively more fragile in the end. Bottomline is, imho, that there are some impractical hidden costs just by buying this a guitar (the smartphone, or a computer to use the app, interfases, the digital-signal fragility, and maybe even studio-monitors, coz emulated signals don´t sound good in regular guitar amps, as far as I can tell). Ultimately, even though I don´t think I would use it live, I do see awesome home-studio applications and practicality. My humble two cents :)
Hey Keynan, thanks for the GTRS demo....I am considering buying one...but, I am consernced about one thing; how would I do swells that have trailing effects?
Hi, great review man. Can't decide between this model and the 800 with rosewood fretboard. It would be useful to know if roasted one with satin finish even on fretboard gets sticky after some time of use. While I guess rosewood fretboard is not finished, but who knows
Looking at buying this guitar some time this month, where do you down load the app? Had a look on the play app store and it's in Chinese...no good for me 😁
@@TempleGuitars nothing broke. Im just saying electronics doesn't last forever. Give it like 15-20 years, you'll definitely need to replace them one day or maybe earlier
That guitar is really cool with the app! I have respect for anyone trying to start a guitar manufacturing company. But to come to the market with another strat clone...I really wish them luck, but I'd never invest in them. Awesome playing btw...you jam!
After watching your (excellent) review, I accidentally hit the "Buy" button on Thomann's site with a pink S800 in the basket :-D Hope it lives up to expectations ! What do you reckon on it 6 months later Keyan ?
Keyan What songs did you play at 08:17 and 12:10 ? They sound familiar but I can't place them..it's already driving me crazy. Super clean playing here!!
Might of missed it or misunderstood but just to clarify, is there is an option to just run it as a dry signal so I can use it on other VST's like Neural DSP, Amplitude?
it looks super cool I have to admit it. has really cool features, but I don't think it's the future of guitars. in a future (let's say 30 years) if the app is not available anymore, or there's no support this guitar turns into a standard guitar instead of an intelligent guitar
The S801 was a prototype they sent to social media people for promotion. I got the S800 (rosewood fingerboard being the only difference) through the indiegogo with the pedal for £435 I think that was with a %25 discount so I’m guessing the target shelf price is £600.
Worth pointing out that we sadly can't get the model you've demoed, they're selling the 800 not the 801. Different spec available to youtubers Vs public
That sounds better than I expected, however I think I'd rather have an entry level Ibanez and, let's say a L6 Pod Go for kinda the same amount of money.
I love Ibanez, but I'm willing to bet this guitar plays better than an entry level Ibanez. The only thing the Ibanez would have over this guitar imo is 24 frets.
@@DJENTISNTNOTAGENRE I said Ibanez as I could have said Jackson or ESP. I have to agree that this GTRS seems to compete to the 300 to 400 € range of instruments in term of playbility (wich would bring the all budget far above the ~600$ if you add a decent modeller). Nevertheless, my point that whole form factor is still gimmicky, for me at least.
shows how old I am everything you said was perfectly explained but you may as well have been talking Chinese. straight over my head, great review though and great playing.

That's what I said!

I should’ve messed with it
Coincidentally, BOSS also just announced their new guitar.
Yes. "Coincidentally". :)
Even if the dsp isn’t perfect, (I mean it sounds great so far.) just the fact you can carry a guitar only with all fx built in is awesome.
This is pretty wicked.
Dug the non DMCA version of "My Curse" too lol
I don't think he changed it for copyright reasons though haha
This is a great idea! It will not replace anything, but its a great addition to any collection. You know us gear heads, we have to have it all!
dude, you should really get a place in Monuments.
aggressive. brutal. beautiful riff, dude.
That pickup feature is insane!!
I know right? So cool
Would love to hear how it sounds running into a clean tube amp. You're a killer player good Sir!!

Let's not forget that Line 6 did the pickup emulation trick with their Variax line of guitars
Cheeky little My Curse bits in there. Sounds killer man
I was thinking the same thing
It would be great if this hardware could be sold separately for people to install into any guitar of their choice.

This is actually pretty cool. Not a bad price for entry, either. I like the Pink paint and roasted maple. Good luck GTRS.
Okay keyan, this is the video that makes me subscribe..
Man if they bring out a 7 String variant, i'll be all over that
In theory, they could sell the hardware and allow people to install this on any type of guitar.

with the guitarists i know, i can assure you, the super knob mode is superfluous.

did you set up the bridge intonation before recording the video?

What's the difference between the 800 and the 801?

i noticed you said you tuned the guitar to C#, what strings do you use with this tune?
Does it have a built in amp or do you need headphones or a standard wired amp hooked up to it
