  • The Cruise Control Circuit is somewhat simple, but without knowing how it works, it is hard to troubleshoot. This video goes over where the pin locations are as well as what are common problems with the system. If the video helped or saved you money, donations to the channel can be made to AdeptApe@yahoo.com on Paypal and thank you.

    Great videos, thanks for all the knowledge. My 1998 379 cruise works when it wants to, no particular time or reason. Any guidance would be appreciated, the switches were replaced no help, Jake works fine.

    I have a 2001 peterbilt I do not have on off switch . 7cz with a brake save. I was told it is a brake pressure switch but the tech could not tell me where it was located. He had a rough idea but that was it. Any clue where it could be located

    How do we install cruise control on our Cat 3116 motors? They both have air throttles and are mechanical.
    Thanks!

    Great video. One question, I have 12v at my #59 pin (ecm side) while Ecm connector not connected. We did have batt/master issues. Kinda thinking the ecm got arc damage. What you think?

    I have an 02 379 with a 6NZ Cat. My high idle works but I cannot get the truck to cruise. The clutch will also turn the jakes off. Any help? I have also replaced both switches in the dash

    I got a strange situation. I can set it in neutral and it shuts off when I apply the brake pedal. It won't set in drive at highway speeds.....

    I'm guessing my issue is a bad switch. 05 379 with a BXS. Cruise, high idle, and flash codes won't work. Jake's work and the check engine light is not burnt out, the light for the cruise control lights up when you flip the switch on, and the brake lights function as they should. I have had intermittent issues with both the tach and speedometer needles hoping around, or occasionally getting stuck and not moving at all, but the cruise and high idle still worked fine until last night. Any thoughts, Ape, or others?

    Have you ever installed a cruise control on a 3406 b?? 3zj to be more specific. If so where did you find the cruise control or where would you recommend getting one? Thanks

    Hey man, love your videos!! just got a quick question for you. I'm currently working on getting my associate degree in diesel technology and am interested in working as a mechanic for cat. how long would the training be at the dealership even after getting my degree? would I still have to do the 2 year think big program?

    • @AdeptApe
      @AdeptApe  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Joe Joe That really depends on the department you work for. Some places will put you on as a mechanic some as an apprentice. Every shop is different in their mentality and how management sees new guys coming out of school. Not every Dealer has the ThinkBig and if you already have a degree they probably wouldn't put you in another program.

    C7 sterling dump truck cannot get cruise control or hi idle to work checked with cat et and noticed the low speed cruise setting was 127mph I'm not sure if this could be the cause or if I'm looking in the wrong place

    Whats up Ape, got a few questions for ya if ya don't mind please and you may have answered them before but Idk. Fist off, in your opinion what is the best 3406 engine to have and run in a semi?? Next one is I've heard and see that Cat used two different types od pistons in those engines, A 1 piece and a 2 piece, Why is that and which is better to have?? Next thing is are you a member on the Cat engine masters group on facebook?? Thanks for the vids and keep them coming dude, Learning a bit about diagnosing and repairing and hope to use this knowledge to fix my own someday.

      +Gary ClarkII I would have to say any of the single turbo C-15 engines really, the 6NZ and 1LW are pretty hard to beat. The older 3406E engines are very good too, just have a worse oil pan gasket design and a couple other little things. Cat used a bunch of different 1 piece and 2 piece piston designs throughout the years, but I couldn't tell you which one is better. The piston part number is based on the engine serial number and horsepower range, I would just recommend going with what Cat recommends. Cat had very few problems with their pistons over the years, it was more the valvetrain that failed more often. I don't have a Facebook.

    I know you're a busy man but if you could help it would be great ,how could you hot wire the cruise with no switches except the on -off and set resume ,run grounds to ecm on pin locations or power?

    Oh shoot, I wish you had a 40 pin schematic... 1997 Ford LTL9000 with a 5EK engine

    • @AdeptApe
      @AdeptApe  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Gregory A. Parsons You need the pin numbers on your 5EK? What is the entire serial number?

    • @parexc07
      @parexc07 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ape...5EK80175 this is a dump truck, was bought well used. When I first got the truck about 1.5 years ago I used the cruise control to check engine codes, so it did work awhile ago, now nothing..

    • @AdeptApe
      @AdeptApe  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Gregory A. Parsons Alright cruise on/off is pin 20 set is pin 25 and resume is 15. Hope that helps.

    • @AdeptApe
      @AdeptApe  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Gregory A. Parsons Oh the sensor common is pin 29.

    • @parexc07
      @parexc07 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok Thanx, checking and matching my Ford schematic pin #
      14=brake
      15=resume
      20=on/off
      25=set
      29=common to others also
      31=clutch
      35=throttle...?
      37=throttle..?
      this really helped because Ford overlays their wiring diagram with 3 other engine that could also have been used, so this narrowed it down by following your starting numbers you provided for a Cat engine.. if my above numbers are correct...

    What better way to find out about issues then to ask a bunch of peterbilt owners these questions right.
    Hi every one so im sure many of you have experienced issues with cruise control not engaging freeway speed, so what could be the issue?
    Engine break works and rpm idle engages, both buttons on dash have been replaced. The clutch button has been replaced, what else could it be? Thanks ahead of time.

    Suburb video as usual. We don't have CAT ET, but we used to, so currently I utilize blink codes and support from Peterson CAT in KF for troubleshooting purposes. But I'll ask you, and other people can learn about this particular issue. We run 11 KW T800's (1996 - 2002); however, in one truck the blink code system doesn't function, but the cruise control does. Any thoughts?

    • @AdeptApe
      @AdeptApe  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Chad Jessup Hmmmmm, the cruise set and resume works, but the blink codes don't? Sounds like the ECM is perhaps malfunctioned or the check engine light is burned out perhaps. I haven't actually seen that before.

    • @cwj9202
      @cwj9202 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The check engine light is good.

    • @cwj9202
      @cwj9202 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The truck arrived at the yard with the check engine light illuminated, and that is when I discovered the blink code system wasn't working. I took a guess that the problem was low coolant, which it was - sometimes it is better to be lucky than good.

    • @AdeptApe
      @AdeptApe  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Chad Jessup I would say it is always better to get lucky than be good. Now back to talking about mechanic related items, there is always a bit of luck doing troubleshooting anyways, since you usually have to pick a path to go down and that is half the time up to a hunch you have.
