- Petey has the peterbilt electrical gremlin blues, so the gauges do crazy things when you turn on the lights or the blower fan, I assumed it was a grounding issue and with the help of Blayne Kesse in Kansas I was able to find the problem and fix it. FOR HATS AND SWAG GO HERE!-----www.jpaydirt.com

Many times a good cure for electrical gremlins is to take one of those flat woven wire grounding straps and bolt one end to the frame and the other to the engine block. A battery cable with eyes on both ends works too. I did that to a guy’s Swedish car once way back around ‘86 or so. Guess it’s my “Saab Story “. Get it? Seriously though - it was a Saab 900 Turbo and it solved the crazy stuff that would occur when he turned on his lights.
Took the words right out of my mouth! I managed a fleet of Cat powered Kenworths for years and it is absolutely unbelievable how many electrical problems we solved with those woven copper wire ground straps. We adopted the policy of "if one is good, two is twice as better".
Yup, got a Saab 9-5. Electrical issues will keep you busy!

If you want a good ground that lasts, Grind a small quarter sized spot down to clean metal use regular plumbing solder and flux and tin the metal with a butane torch. It heats super fast so don't over do it. Tin your wire of choice ( a nice flat braided ground wire is best) heat both sides up and solder together. Once cool clean the acid flux off with de greaser and repaint. Now you have a permanent bonded ground with a good cross section area that isn't subject to corrosion or loss of contact like the threads of a bolt and crimp connects. I've done this with several cars and especially my trailers and always had great success with it. one and done, you'll never have to fool with it again.
After 44 years working as an industrial electrician, we always had a saying, "when all else fails, check the ground". Was working on a 980G, helping the plant mechanic with a particular tough intermittent electrical problem, multiple issues. I happened to be up under the cab when I found a ground cable caught in the chassis hinge and torn in two. Once that ground was repaired all the problems melted away.

Jeff thanks to you I’m looking at every oil pressure gauge when I perform start up even trying to judge the color of red on the equipment that just has the idiot lights! Next I will be dreaming of my looking at your Pete’s oil gauge!
Over the years most electrical issues in vehicles can be traced back to a bad or missing ground. Great video as always bro. Safe travels
If I can make a suggestion Mr. Jeff, switch the camera to 4k 30FPS Linear mode. it will get rid of that Fisheye look to the video. narrows up the field of view just a touch tho. Petey Sounds good!

Star/shake-proof washers are good for electrical connections. They cut though paint and keep the joint tight. We also used them to fix squeaky dash panels and the like.
I can't believe the way you keep washing those bearings out with all that oil pressure! lol

Jeff, I had a similar problem with my Suburban. I only had one blower speed and the lights would go blindly. I discovered a bad resistor in the fan circuit that caused all the problems. I changed that, no more problems.
Jeff, those wire bundles where they exit the bulkhead interconnects need supporting - there is a lot of mass putting stress on the back of the connectors which, in time, will result in the contacts deforming and increased resistance / intermittent contact - i.e. GREMLINS!
I hate those type of issues.
I have a 03 379 and it's a electrical issue at least once a week.

I have chased many a electrical issues on our 377. Like you guys have had to redo grounds. Also had problems with the breaker/fuse box connections. Very frustrating but it’s better than muffler fluid problems
Glad to hear that ground was what was wrong.
One thing I did with my 92 dodge pickup was take my multimeter and set it to voltage, turn as many lights fans and accessories on as you can, connect the negative test lead to the negative on the battery, and start touching the positive lead to grounds on the cab, doors, engine, anything you can think of. A bad ground will show voltage on the meter. Basically a voltage drop test only on the ground side.
Run another ground from starter to frame, I have done this to everyone I’ve owned
Agree 100%! I managed a fleet of Cat powered Kenworths for years. We finally got to the point that when a new one was delivered, we went over it from bumper to bumper and put a starter-to-frame and frame-to-body copper woven ground strap on in addition to the factory grounds before they ever went into service.
Woven copper ground straps is the only way to go. One from starter to frame, one from frame to body. That in addition to whatever the factory put on. Additionally, get some Deoxit d5 and CRC Electronic Cleaner for those electrical connections. I have fixed numerous connection problems and troublesome switches with those two products. Deoxit it, let it sit, Deoxit again, flush it with CRC.
Them cab grounds will get you every time my Mack was the same way.
If you havn't thought of it already double check all your heavy connections at and around yourbattery box.your bat box is probably what previouse users were relying on to run the truck. You didnt have enough freon in it to fill the system...
My neighbors had a corgi that would chase you down on just about anything. Lawnmower, bicycle you name it. Everyone travels around the neighborhood on atvs and that dog would go after the exhaust outlet on the back and if he could he’d start biting at the muffler.

Every 12v or 24v system I,ve worked on 90% of the time its the ground. Never fails
I prefer welding cable, more flexible and easier to work with. When I first read the title, I thought Petey petered out. You have a duck pecker in the coil. If it were low on refrigerant, it will be cool in the other tubes because the refrigerant will want to expand too soon before the expansion device. Need to maintain liquid all the way to the orifice or expansion device.
Two 10 gauge cables do not equal a single #4 gauge cable in capacity, it is somewhere around a 6 or less capacity .

Interesting how one or more bad or missing ground's can cause gremlin in the electrical system on trucks and equipment.

I'll admit it right up front I do not know schize. A 'boot electrical.. doesn't all that electrical Grease create a path of continuity to all the different electrical connectors, like I said I don't know???

There is no electricity on the moon because there is no earth ! I see many comments about an earth strap between engine and frame, Our truck would not start once, and we did have a good earth between frame and battery, but the earth strap had parted between engine and frame, once repaired, all was well. By the way, earth = ground !

Jeff regarding your expensive AC lines... Can't you have those made locally? Don't you know anyone that can TIG weld? And specifically regarding your bad Schrader valve, couldn't you just saw one off any car in a junkyard and have it TIG welded to your line? Wouldn't that cost you a fraction of expensive factory parts?
