    Good straight forward video but some steps need to be mentioned. The used cooking oil needs to be filtered to remove any large food chunks or sediments left over from cooking.
    Also the biodiesel is still not yet suitable to be put into any engine as needs to be cleaned with water to remove the methyl alcohol from it.

    • @mrdojob
      @mrdojob ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Champagne_on_1ce You just need to put the biodiesel into a bottle or something that you can shake then add water and shake it. The water will separate from the oil in a separate layer from the (now cleaner) biodiesel. You need to repeat this a couple of times to really clean it.
      It should become less yellow as you clean it.

    Try salting out your alcohol to remove water to increase your percent alcohol prior to use to improve yield and help reduce cloudiness of the biodiesel product.

    • @slashshake2371
      @slashshake2371 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      i tried anhydrous ethanol and it didn't work! You could even use less than 70% ethanol if you add a stoichiometric amount, because both water and ethanol aren't soluble in biodiesel.

    • @josephespinosa7352
      @josephespinosa7352 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@slashshake2371 The presence of water in the biodiesel reaction is detrimental in the process as part of the oil becomes soap. Ingredients to be reacted should be as dry as possible to avoid this side reaction. If possible try using methanol too.

      Try a volumetric ratio of between 1 to 4 to about 1 to 5 of methanol to used cooking oil as trial ratio for starter. Just make sure your reactants are as water free as possible to avoid soap formation which will make separation harder to achieve.

    • @kylemcguff5581
      @kylemcguff5581 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You will have to remove the water in the ethanol to achieve the phase separation between the glycerol byproduct and the ethyl ester fuel. Using any alcohol that is less polar than methanol will require near anhydrous conditions and minimal soap formation for the separation to occur.
      Isopropanol will be even more difficult since it is even less polar than ethanol. Scaling up the production of fuel with these alcohols will be extremely difficult, especially when using hydroxide catalysts that form water when mixed with any alcohol

    ....IMPORTANT INFORMATION....I think you would do much better by harnessing methane, instead of making alcohol from the grass. Just put a hay bail in a tub of water, put a plastic tarp (trash bag) over the top of the straw / hail bail, with a tube attached sealed not to leak, and as the straw rots, methane will be released, and fill up a tank or bag above, this will give you a constant supply of methane for many weeks....Add some pressure on the bag, that runs your engine, and bingo, cheap gas made from grass, and on you go....What does a hay bail cost 7.00???? Methane is what we see bubbling up from decaying peat in the swamps.....The decaying process burns up the oxygen in the water....So the gas should automatically be separated...
