I can tell you are a bit of an older guy, maybe 30s or 40s, like me. I say that because these issues in gaming didn't really bother us growing up. We dealt with sprite flicker, slow down, etc in our games and still found the fun in them. The younger gen though? They'll post a whole video on TH-cam complaining about a game dropping from 60 frames to 59 frames in a brief couple of instances. They've been spoiled really. They are concerned about things like that, while we were over here knowing that the home ports of arcade games weren't going to be as good as the arcade versions, and instead just hoping that they were going to be good games period.
i'm so excited to play this when it comes in. i just ordered one earlier. i'm going to swap the monitor because it was only like 60 bucks to get the dell panel and i've already done it previously with my sf2. i'm kind of surprised that the monitor being washed out from standing outside the play area is a deal breaker for so many when a lot of the community will gladly spend more time and money re-doing the controls on a bunch of other cabs without a second thought. like ffs we even have multiple straight up video tutorials showing you how to swap the panel without having to do a 400 dollar upgrade and new mounts, new bezel, new plexi, etc. do i wish it was a good quality 4:3 panel? sure. does it not having that completely erase all of the good things about the cab (the physical form factor, the control panel, the marquee, the art, the games with online)? no. and it's kind of a shame that people are hating on this cab in particular and think it's a complete failure because they didn't get their beloved BOE. i don't think we'll see another cab from a1u with mk1 artwork for the foreseable future, as they are hell bent on releasing like 12 versions of mk2. so as someone who owned an mk1 cabinet when i was 14, i feel like i'd be crazy to let this one slip by.
The funny thing is that those TN monitors in mk30th have less lag(better response time) in comparison to the BOE monitors that everyone loves. They may look better but have more lag than the TN monitor.

What you're saying about the monitor is 1000% correct... people lost their minds over nothing, and keep in mind that this has the SAME monitor as an entire generation of Arcade1Up cabinets and nobody ever mentioned any monitor issues back then. The original Gen1 Street Fighter and MKII cabinets used the same exact monitor and nobody complained about it at all. Would I have preferred to have the much-ballyhooed BOE monitor in the MK Anniversary cab? Sure, but the monitor they used kept the price low and it works JUST FINE. Give it a rest, people...

I agree with you 100%! I just picked this up last week, and upon the reviews I was nervous to see what I was in for. Then after assembling it, I don't get the gripes, I love it. Monitor is fine, love the artwork, game choices are awesome, and the best marquee Arcade 1up has done.
I agree with most of what you said but my gripe is the input lag. I have the original MK 2 and it plays so much faster. I only have these 2 cabinets because I’m a huge MK fan and I play the crap out of both. I don’t hear people talking much about this issue. I’m hoping they put out a update to fix and this machine would be perfect in my eyes! I’m afraid if no one complains they won’t know it’s an issue.
i've heard that the input lag is worse when scanlines are turned on for certain titles. i'm going to take some slow motion vids of mine before and after a monitor swap and with and without scanlines and see how it does.

You probably could've just left the Live button yellow as it's been yellow on all arcade1up cabinets that have the Live button, like The Simpsons, Class of 81, X Men
I have 21 1ups including the new KI pro. I don’t like the constant complaints but I also feel the machine should not be getting worse and if no one says anything at all, they think it’s OK so I think that should be constructive criticism ,like my KIA pro a lot of things. I don’t like about it I bought it anyway I think people just feel like arcade.1 up makes mistakes they could easily be caught if they actually cared or had 1 person go over it before they manufacture them.I don’t like fiddling with them so much but I did change the kI Pro to the better sticks (Now I want all my machines with those sticks but I hear changing reg cabs are not an easy swap line the pro was) and added a light up coin deck to my tempest. Glad to see a positive video for a change tho.
Thanks for that video, man! I've seen so many videos about this cabinet now, positive and negative, still most of them being negative. Nevertheless I'm gonna buy it because I love the new form factor and design, I especially love the MK1 looks of it and I really love the better height, viewing angle to the monitor and the great control deck. It is just awesome! The reason people hate on the monitor could be because there are better arcades with better monitors out there like the MVSX for example. I own that one and it doesn't wash out from the sides or the top. Only from the bottom if you go down on your knees. Still, who cares just like you said. You don't stand 2 meters away from the side of the machine to play it! And just as you said almost everybody makes a few mods here and there on these machines so just replace the damn monitor before putting everything together and it's all good. That's what I'm gonna do as I got the better Dell E1715S monitor for only 50€ (used, but in great shape) here in Germany and it's no big deal at all to put this one in before assembling everything. I think I'm gonna put in the white buttons, too and maybe even the stickers with Johnny Cage on it but I'm not sure about that one.
@@morbidtorture I received it. Unfortunately I had some issues with it, but I could fix them myself. First the left audio speaker wasn't working. All of a sudden while gaming it's started to work, though. Fortunately! Then I noticed that my low kick button wasn't always registering. I swapped it out with the "live" button. Now at least I can use the low kick button without any issues in the game and the "live" button I don't need that much. Only to exit games. I never go online and don't plan on going online anyway. I would maybe try it out, but the patch that gets installed automatically makes the 4:3 image into a 5:3 image. I don't want that. Furthermore I have three stuck pixels and strange spots and stains in the middle of the screen. Luckily you don't see them while gaming as long as you don't look for it. Further than that there are fingerprints on the inside of the acrylic glass in front of the screen and a lot of dust. And final - the game lags/stutters for a few seconds every now and again, even without online play. Still I have to admit that I love the cabinet and really enjoy it, but I wouldn't spend that money on such a quality again to be honest. I'd rather try to get it on sale. Oh and yeah, the monitor isn't that bad. To be honest, I love that it's not the best and has a little washed out colors. Makes it kinda retro and more like the crts back in the day. Yeah, even with all the flaws I love and enjoy this cabinet!

Your positive attitude is very nice about arcade 1ups high and lows. If people can drop many hundreds of dollars on arcade machines, they should do thier research or temper their expectations about these machines or build their own.

I think the power supply is a 12v 3a unit. So, the whole machine shouldn’t use much at all. If I had to guess I’d say 25-30 watts maximum. That’s pushing it I would say.
It's worse! That monitor has got to go! It's washed out, and gray where there should be proper black. Mind you, a game like Mortal combat which does fill the screen with a lot of colour is not going to be that bad, but any game that has a lot of black on screen is going to look just absolutely horrible. At that price, there bloody well should've been a BOE monitor onboard. I made the mistake of getting Centipede Legacy, which has the TN monitor, and at the moment, I'm looking for a BOE type monitor to replace the god awful TN monitor with. The games on that cab are mostly black with some detail, and it's just the wrong monitor for that cabinet. Yes, for you, sitting on a stool, looking dead on at that monitor should work fine with the fighting games, but even you have to agree, it's horrible, especially for what you paid for that cabinet. Couldn't disagree with you more. I play standing normally and sitting when I just want to relax. I have no problem with the monitor. Not one. Could it be better? Yes, but can't many other things with any of these cabinets be better as well? Thats why we change the marquees, the buttons, etc. There's no need for the bandwagon crying that everyone has made a fuss about with this thing which causes fans like myself to pass on buying it. Like I stated in the video, I'm glad I didn't let the consensus of the hate make the decision for me. Hence, why I made my video with my thoughts. Thanks for watching, nonetheless. Come on, man. You don't remember being a kid and in an arcade as a spectator watching from that angle? If you paid this much for a machine re-creating the arcade experience, and you get this washed out colors? People do all of this for free on their PC. Get your MAME, get your Romset, get your Launchpad, get your Retroarch, finally get your good quality joystick.
Here's the problem with these Arcade1Ups: the price. The initial generation were priced decently but each generation after that has increased more and more and the most recent ones are now pretty ridiculous. For the price they are asking for them now, these cabs shouldn't have these kinds of problems. The 30th anniversary model hasn't made it to Australia yet but even the previous gen model (the "Midway Legacy" edition) is AU$900 (about US$600)! That's an insane price for what these are, which are basically toys, given their build quality and the buttons and sticks they include. I could buy a PS5, an extra controller, a couple of games and have money left over for that. And this isn't just for the MK cabs, this is for everything (the T2 cab is AU$1400 or US$940 and it only includes one game). They are way overpriced for what they are and unless you find them for a heavy discount then I don't think they are worth it. If you want these arcade games there are cheaper legal ways to own many of them, being available on many digital stores or as part of collections for various platforms. Fair enough it you have the money to spend and you want to do so but I don't think they are worth their asking price. To me, given their build materials, the standard arcade machines are worth maybe AU$300 (US$200), maximum. At that price, I'll happily buy one. Until then, no thanks.

I actually don’t mind that some of my arcade1ups have washed out marquees. It gives it a real vintage look I think.

Yes! You get MK1, MK2, MK3, UMK3 and others such as Paperboy, Rampage, etc. I think there is 14 games total.
