    Thank you for your warm thoughts in the pandemic. Staying home, poking at plants, gonna be fine. Let's hear it for vaccines!

    It is always great to watch an artist at work...thank you. I continue to pray for better times and hope you can re-open your business, sooner than later. It's businesses like yours that are the backbone of the economy.

    Hey Jerome, thank you for introducing me to a species I knew nothing about. I look forward to my Wed. "fix" of info from you. More important, I can't wait until this virus goes away and I can visit your store for a hit of tranquility. Stay well, guys!

    Hi! I received a Jaboticaba as a Christmas gift. It is very small, and all the leaves are falling off since it arrived. It appears that it has never been attended to, for shaping. It is January 2, and it is indoors. Do you recommend I wait until Feb or March to begin shaping?

      Hey Michelle, I would wait until the summertime to do any work to it. Let it grow and recover.

    Great skills brother!
    When did you do defoliated ?
    When is the best time to defoliate jaboticabas and repot?
    Thank you for the great info!

      Hey Jugado, Thank you very much for your kind words. I defoliated this at the end of February. I wait until I get 7 consecutive nights of 70 Fahrenheit. I defoliate once before spring, which was February and then again in June- July and also repot then.

    Do you have some guidelines for defoliation can you defoliate yearly for tropical trees or do they lose too much vigor?

    • @WeareTheBonsaiSupply
      @WeareTheBonsaiSupply  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ken Dahl hey Ken, most tropicals I defoliate 1-2 times a year depending on training stage, specie and health. Defoliating will actually increase the vigor

    Does the Jaboticaba flower, being that young? Or do they have to be more mature?

    • @WeareTheBonsaiSupply
      @WeareTheBonsaiSupply  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Basti V they have to be more mature to flower and fruit

      If you grow it from a seed, it might take up to 20 years, depending on the species and varieties. But if you buy it from a producer, sometimes it can be grafted and ready to produce fruits. Here in Brazil is really common to see the grafted ones selling in garden centers

    i read in another comment you mentioned defoliating twice - your first one was at the end of February, and the next will be June/July. i just defoliated mine right now and i really want to start wiring smaller branches (since i've read that jaboticaba branches, even though they may still be small, become very difficult to bend without breaking).
    since i want to bend the really young branches to match up with what will become the nebari, is it okay to repot right now AND prune some of the thicker branches? i just don't want to cut and have the tree end up dying because i did it in the wrong season. i also read that jaboticabas are very vigorous during the summer and messing with them now is pretty safe, since they have the energy to withstand the changes ( i hope that's true!). anyways, keep up the great work you guys!

      Hey Darren, I repot mine in the summertime, dead smack in the middle when they go into a dormant period. you can defoliate, wire ,and repot all at the same time.
