Maine is a state in the New England region of the northeastern United States, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the east and south; New Hampshire to the west; and the Canadian provinces of Quebec to the northwest and New Brunswick to the northeast. Maine is both the northernmost and easternmost portion of New England. It is known for its scenery-its jagged, mostly rocky coastline, its low, rolling mountains, its heavily forested interior, and picturesque waterways-as well as for its seafood cuisine, especially lobster and clams.
For thousands of years, indigenous peoples were the only inhabitants of the territory that is now Maine. At the time of European encounter, several Algonquian-speaking peoples inhabited the area. The first European settlement in Maine was by the French in 1604 on Saint Croix Island, by Pierre Dugua, Sieur de Mons. The first English settlement in Maine, the short-lived Popham Colony, was established by the Plymouth Company in 1607. A number of English settlements were established along the coast of Maine in the 1620s, although the rugged climate, deprivations, and conflict with the local peoples caused many to fail over the years.
As Maine entered the 18th century, only a half dozen European settlements had survived. Patriot and Loyalist forces contended for Maine's territory during the American Revolution and the War of 1812. Maine was part of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts until 1820 when it voted to secede from Massachusetts. On March 15, 1820, it was admitted to the Union as the 23rd state under the Missouri Compromise. Maine is the 39th most extensive and the 41st most populous of the 50 United States. With respect to crime rates, Maine is also often considered the safest state in the U.S. Maine is the 'whitest' state in the union.

I love Maine, any time if year. It was my favorite place for vacation growing up and into my 20s, do many happy happy memories of the great outdoors.

Perhaps Maine Gov. Paul LePage (R) thought he had been too subtle in expressing his views on black and Hispanic people in the past. How else to explain what he said in a Friday press conference while discussing a threatening, expletive-filled voicemail that he’d left for a state legislator?
LePage was widely criticized earlier this year for claiming men with names like “Smoothie, D-Money and Shifty” were coming into his state to deal drugs. Earlier this week, he said he keeps a binder with mugshots of all the drug dealers arrested in Maine, and he claimed that 90 percent of the people in that binder were black or Hispanic.
Note that 95 percent of Maine residents are white, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
On Friday, LePage first denied that Maine police officers were racially profiling people ― an obvious concern if they really are arresting almost exclusively people of color for drug crimes.
Then the governor suggested that people of color in Maine were “the enemy.”
We met a delegation from the State of Maine here yesterday. It was obvious we have alot in common. As sea faring people.
It was a short stay in our town.There was a presentation by our national fishery board (BIM) and a visit to the Keohane fish facility outside the town where we all tasted some lovely salmon dishes prepared for us. I would love to visit Maine, I understand it was once a part of Massachusetts. My beloved mom was born there in Mass, Newburyport. I have been to Massachusetts several times, but not to Newburyport nor Maine. Maine is so beautiful.

There is actually more to Maine than Bar Harbor, Portland, Acadia National Park, the other coastal areas this video put most of its emphasis on. Not a fair assessment of Maine truly is. There are some great places miles from the coast.
