Arcadia is a small town in the northeastern part of Louisiana. It's where Bonnie and Clyde were killed. It also happens to be close to the "mountain" that was talked about in the video.

I went to Maine (Bar Harbor, specifically) a couple months ago, and the most fascinating thing I learned there was when my dad and I went on a kayaking trip, and we saw some lobster traps. Our tour guide told us how the entire lobster industry in the state is run by family-owned businesses and no big corporations. He also mentioned how the industry has exploded in Maine because of warming Atlantic Ocean temperatures, which have made the Maine coast more habitable for lobsters. However, of course, this probably will become problematic as oceanic temperatures continue to warm, and the lobsters migrate further north up along the coast of Canada, which would be devastating for Maine, since it's a more than $60 million industry for a state with a population of around 1.2 million.
I used to live in maine I also grew up going there to visit my grandmother from Massachusetts it is a beautiful state. I love Portland Maine and even went to college there. I miss it a lot. Currently in New Mexico. I do miss how safe and green maine is and also the ocean. I feel homesick now.
I didn’t expect this comparison. I mean I guess they have two of the most French states. Now for the next comparisons there should be one on Arkansas and Oklahoma for obvious reasons, Iowa and Missouri for obvious reasons, and I guess Michigan and Maryland because I guess there both weirdly shaped, mostly water based states, and those were the only states left
Many more folks want to see Missouri and Arkansas. Therefore, there will be some repeats. I'll probably go Oklahoma and Texas, Missouri and Arkansas, Maryland and Virginia, and Iowa and Nebraska. Still confused about Michigan, though.
@@iammrbeat I thought you didn’t do repeats, that’s why I tried to match them up. I thought you did Texas with California, Virginia with West Virginia, and Nebraska with Kansas. Idk, it’s prolly just my OCD needing everything to line up and fit together. Either way keep up the great content!

You wouldn’t enjoy lake Charles right now, after Hurricane Laura we are losing our downtown. Our largest tower was so heavily damaged the insurance refused to pay soo. We’re about to become an even smaller town. Which means we’re moving in the wrong direction. Honestly soon as I’ve sold our home and find a job elsewhere, we’re moving away from this quickly sinking state. Hurricanes are becoming more frequent. Just think, we got Hurricane Laura (technically a cat 4, but gusts recorded of up to 180 mph, and sustained winds at 160- so yeah a cat 5) and then we had the cat 3 Hurricane delta strike LITERALLY 31 miles to the east of where Laura struck. Pretty much gutting southwest Louisiana. It’s a different place, people are still putting their lives back together. Hell only my fiancé and I just recently moved back home in November. By the way, one big thing you left out. Comparing food, we dominate that department
Here’s 3 interesting comparisons, not noted, although very interesting: 1. Louisiana uses Napoleonic code as a basis for law, whereas Maine uses common law like the rest of the 49 states. 2. Louisiana has the most expensive premiums for auto insurance in the US, while Maine has the cheapest premiums for auto insurance in the US. 3. While having slightly more taxes, Maine has a much lower sales tax, while Louisiana has less taxes, but the 2nd most expensive sales tax.

They had spent the past decade or so driving around the backroads and byways (avoiding interstates when possible). At the time I met them (2016), they had driven to 47/49 continental states. The only ones they had yet to go to were... Louisiana and Maine, which they were heading to after Vermont. So it's a nice little coincidence that you compared Maine and Louisiana :)

Maine is unlike any other state in the fact that we only border 1 other state. I'd say we are the most secluded state in the lower 48. It sometimes feels like Maine is its own country. Especially since our borders with Canada have been closed for a while now.
As a Mainer myself, I’m glad you pointed out french history, but to be frank, it was the wrong history. French settlement occurred when hundreds of thousands of Québécois had moved down to Maine following mass economic issues throughout Canada, especially differences between English and French industry, with legal discrimination against the French Canadians. Most Of the French in Maine trace their heritage back to those québécois from the 1880s.

Clearly, none of you have ever been here. Occasionally people go missing only to be found only feet from the road! One girl left Cornish and was missing for days. Finally found in the river but very visible from the road. Not enough people around to see her! A friend of mine her friend survived a crash into a river but froze to death on the bank of the river near the road waiting for someone to find her. Another kid ended up in the marshes in Saco and wasn't spotted until low tide. My son went into the woods behind our house and found himself tracking for hours upon hours upon hours before finding a road. Luckily he recognized the road as Deerwander and followed it out. Our friend when visiting from away said, "Have you seen the Lyman Fire Department?" I responded, "Yes, why?" She responded, "Is that real? How can they put out fires? Are you sure that is real? You had better pray no one has a fire!!" She was shocked by how tiny it was! We don't even have police in most towns. You have to call the Sheriff or state police. And it is normal to see a random tractor driving down the road, even the highways along with a stray chicken or cow. On the islands in Casco Bay sheriffs you go bang on their house door or call for a police boat out of Portland. Mail is usually delivered by some nice lady who is just helping out at the post office if no one else can help out that day. In some places, like the islands, the mail is picked up or delivered from someone's home or from off the bow of a boat. FB pages are used to report coyotes, bears, hawks, and other predators that may be heading for a neighbor's livestock or deer, moose, turkeys, and other yummy animals that may be ready for hunting. Oh and fast food? We call our neighbor and tell him to steam us a lobstah or two so we can pick it up on the way home from work because well fishing and farming are the biggest things going on in our area. The most exciting thing round here is when a dog gets lose and everyone joins in the search for the dog!! LMAO!!

That was great. I find it helpful as I am a New Orleans bartender. I even bartend at Saints and Pelicans games. Thanks for explaining the importance of the Acadians in Louisiana. It really is hard to grasp all of the history here. There is a story behind every building here. Even the stones and bricks you can walk on here each have a story. It's too much for most people and these stories will make you need a drink. It really is a magical place. A city with great potential. We need to start elevating new construction and eventually raise the city with backfill, what do you think?
According to climate change and sea level rise projections, the entire southern coastal region is going to be underwater eventually, and we won't have much choice but to move to higher ground further inland. Unless you think we can become a water based species, or build massive sprawling cities that float on the water.

Arcadia is a small town in the northeastern part of Louisiana. It's where Bonnie and Clyde were killed. It also happens to be close to the "mountain" that was talked about in the video.
Louisiana’s dialects actually vary a bit more than that… someone from New Orleans and a traditional “Cajun” from the Lafayette area definitely have different cultures as well
But are way more similar to each other than the “southern Arkansas/west Mississippi” Louisianan’s😂

Yeah in louisiana we just call all of us cajuns

@@jakes1677 New Hampshire and Utah...
Casco Bay is warming up because Canada blocked the river that came down from the Arctic to build a power Dam
Thanks for sharing all that! And (apparently) due to how difficult it is to get lobsters to markets, that is one reason why they are so expensive.
@@iammrbeat No problem! Also, another fun fact, it's illegal for non-Mainers to capture lobsters in traps in the state.

Heyy..... seems legit

Here’s 3 interesting comparisons, not noted, although very interesting:
That 10% sales tax sucks

Maine is unlike any other state in the fact that we only border 1 other state. I'd say we are the most secluded state in the lower 48. It sometimes feels like Maine is its own country. Especially since our borders with Canada have been closed for a while now.
I moved from Louisiana to Maine when I was 16 and I've been in Maine for 20 years. Both taught me bad habits and both gave me great memories.

LMAO!!

I try to convince her that all the smart people live in the northeastern part of our country, we have the most ivy league collages. Of course she disagrees with my reasoning and she thinks that the south has more smart people. I'm convinced she only says that because her husband is from Louisiana. I also tease her about road kill being on the menu nightly and the only professional sport in Louisiana is Gator wrestling. We grew up in a military family, that's how we ended up so far apart. It's all in good fun, but like I said we found this quite funny. On another note, it was also quite educational. Thank you I truly enjoyed it.

Atun Shei!! I thought I recognized that voice and cadence!! Love the “Checkmate, Lincolinites!” Videos by the way, as well as these videos comparing states. This should be good
Nice job man. What state are you comparing with Arkansas?
I'm thinking Missouri!
@@iammrbeat So that leaves Oklahoma and Maryland. Do you think you can still compare them?
If you compare Missouri and Kansas you can add the rivalry between them. Also the whole Kansas City on both sides.
Nice to see you making a cameo in this video atum-shei! Also bill hader and Fred armisen’s impressions of Mainers in that bit of SNL makes me think that’s what Maine is generally like.
Newsreels seems more superior than tiktok though.
